Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 50)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Re: Mark (# 980)
I have never tried Oxylin.... just once a day is fantastic, even VISINE LR worked for 6 to 8 hours. But then maybe it varies from person to person. Maybe I should try them... hope they aren't horribly expensive!
Mark-
Oxylin does burn my eyes at first also. It works no better in my case than Allergex.
VALIDITY of Eye Drops:
Visine LR used to say "use within 6 months of opening" (I think) but used to work well for a long period.
CENDO is clearly "use within one month of opening the bottle"
Is anyone aware of ALLERGEX / B & L advanced redness reliever OXYLIN & others?
Re: Meenal (# 983)
I've been using Oxylin for 8 months. I use 2 drops per day. No problems at all. Avoid bottle tip contact to the eyes or lids and you should not have a problem. They cut down preservatives so that's why they recommend do not use after 30 days of opening.
How can I get Visine LR? It's the one that works for my family and I, but no store sells it anymore. Why?
Re: Mark (# 980)
By the way I am just wondering that though we all do miss Visine LR a lot, our INDIVIDUAL PROBLEMS may be a bit different from each other. My problem has not been so much RED EYES, but more of DROOPY EYELIDS, since I wore HARD CONTACT LENSES for for over 20 years (the soft contact lenses didn’t suit my eyes).
Re: Darlene (# 985)
The company stopped producing it. (Reasons given in previous posts). No other U.S. company has duplicated the formula.
I am growing concerned that other sources manufacturing oxymetazoline eye drops may eventually discontinue it as well. There used to be sources selling Zoamet and they are all out of stock. Also, will anyone using nose spray with a lubricant eye drop tell me the exact nose spray brand and ratio? Thank you!
Re: Mark (# 970)
I use Zoamet. One drop in each eye. Works great just like Visine LR. But having difficulty finding it online now. A little stinging initially but quickly subsides. Gets rid of redness. I may have to try other suggestions listed on this forum.
Re: Darlene (# 985)
Even if you can find a VISINE LR bottle now, it will surely be well past its validity date. So, will it be safe to use eye-drops which have expired several years ago?
I was looking for something for my eyes irritated by gabapentin. I used to use Murine, but I could not find anything. So, I tried this does everything, but heal blindness, Visine. It made my eyes worse. I'm thinking about trying Similarasin -it is a homeopathic med, and it's eardrops work.
Re: Sam (# 991)
Following, I'm also looking for a replacement to visene.
Re: Jackie (# 992)
There are a number of replacement products from outside the U.S. for VISINE LR. Just read some earlier posts for more detailed info.
I’ve since replaced visine lr with a dristan nasal spray product mix 50/50 with water.
Works just as good as the old visine did.
Re: Dave (# 993)
Hi Dave, I have been using a 50/50 mix of nasal spray and distilled water which seems to work pretty good but just not sure how healthy it is for the eyes so looking for something else, will have to try some of the other products that have been mentioned earlier.
Hi,
I have been looking for Oxylin and I cannot find it for sale in any store. I noticed that Allergex, Cendo and Zoamet are also not for sale on ebay. Were they discontinued?
And now? Does anyone know other stores?
I'm getting worried, I can not imagine living without oxymetazoline.
Re: Joao (# 996)
Hi. For ALLERGEX you can try searching: “Allergex Eye drops SA Expat shop"
It should take you to a website where you can pay & order the eye drops.
They follow up on emails as well.

There is a new product on the market which was just approved by the FDA. The first manufacturer with the new ingredient is Bausch and Lomb although I expect other manufacturers will follow soon.
The new ingredient is brimonidine tartrate (0.025%).
The product name is LUMIFY and the B&L website says this: "significantly reduces redness to help your eyes look whiter and brighter. Recently approved by the FDA, LUMIFY is the first over the counter eye drop to contain the active ingredient brimonidine tartrate (0.025%).
LUMIFY works differently than other redness relievers by selectively targeting redness, maintaining the flow of blood and oxygen to the eye, and alleviating some of the potential side effects common to redness relievers - rebound redness and loss of effectiveness over time."
If anyone has tried it, please post your results here!
Re: Jeff (# 998)
I'm down to my last few drops of Visine LR. Although it isn't as effective as it once was, it is the only thing that still gets most of the red out for a good chunk of the day. Thanks for the tip on Lumify. There are rave reviews about it on Amazon from people that are long term red eye drop users so I am cautiously optimistic. I plan to purchase some in next few days and will report my results here. Background: I've been using Oxymetazoline drops since the mid 90s when first introduced by Occuclear. When Visine LR was discontinued, I started to panic. I loaded up on about 12 bottles.
Re: Todd (# 999)
I just actually bought Lumify today and came here to see if anyone else has used it. I will come back with my review in a day or so. I hope this works as I was down to my last allergex bottle with a mere few drops left.
