Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 27)

Having problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Dear Inna (@ Comment #536),
I'm going to try the Opcon-A, as Walmart also suggested the product. I want to try it before I start using my final bottle of Visine LR.
I also used Visine LR for many years, since right after OcuClear was discontinued.
When you're used to using a certain eye drop every single day and then it is suddenly taken away, it's a real downer. You feel like you lost something that helps you feel and look your best. I'm just glad to hear that some of you have found a good replacement. I really hope Opcon-A works for me too.
Many of the other useless eye drops actually make your eyes look and feel worse.
Christina,
Unbelievable!!! This is no lie. I must have ESP or something. Last night, I just got a feeling to check in here, and I commented that I did not hear back from Walmart yet.
Well...
I just picked up yesterday's mail this morning, and what a difference a day makes!
:-)
I wrote a letter to Walmart's CEO and my letter was referred to the Senior Purchaser of Eye Care and Contact Lenses. He responded with a "detailed" letter confirming Johnson & Johnson discontinuing Visine LR in July of 2014. Walmart also shared my letter with the J&J team and asked that they consider adding Visine LR back to the assortment. (That's good because now J&J knows Walmart is aware that consumers want Visine LR back on the shelves. I had also referred Walmart to this blog to read our comments.)
The letter also explained how oxymetazoline works and said no other eye care items appear to contain the oxymetazoline ingredient--that it's more common in nasal items.
The letter also suggested trying the following products: Systane brands, Refresh brands, Opcon-A, and Equate (Walmart's brand) Eye Allergy. It also suggested contacting your optometrist or health care provider for further treatment options.
Needless to say, I was VERY pleased to receive such a detailed, professional letter from Walmart. And although Walmart did not state they will make oxymetazoline eye drops for us, you just never know. If any company can do it, Walmart can.
A lot of people get angry when Walmart takes over things, but that is the American way--to create business and serve the people. If Walmart ends up creating oxymetazoline eye drops, Johnson & Johnson should have nothing to say about it. They had their chance. We've been begging and pleading with them.
I would tell everybody I know that when they want redness relief for their eyes, the oxymetazoline eye drops are the way to go. The others might be somewhat good, but all those other eye drops on the shelves are not necessary. Most of them don't work at all.
Hi Christina,
No, I haven't heard from Walmart yet. I wrote the CEO of Walmart. I'm going to continue writing until someone responds to me.
I'm on my second to last bottle of Visine LR. :-(
Rhonda,
Hear anything back from Walmart?
Who are you contacting? Maybe I can also try.
Thank you,
Christina
I have been using the Visine LR for many years. Went to a local pharmacy to get my normal supply and none was there. Called J&J only to be told that it has been discontinued. There is nothing else on the market that can take its place. It needs to be put back on the shelves. RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Momsaysnat,
I have again contacted Johnson and Johnson as the petition started and they have told me that the decision as to whether to bring Visine LR back on the market is "proprietary." They will not and have not ever given me a direct answer. I continue
to keep the petition going as well as another you may want to sign.
The link is: change.org/p/prestige-brands-please-make-eyedrops-with-oxymetazoline
It is asking Prestige Brands to make an eyedrop with oxymetazoline.
For me unfortunately the eyedrops listed here as substitutes for Visine LR have not worked. I believe that it is the oxymetazoline that works best for my eyes.
Thank you for signing the petitions.
As others have mentioned, I also enjoy the Naphazoline in Bausch + Lomb Advanced Eye Relief "Redness Maximum Eye Relief" Redness Reliever Lubricant Eye Drops Sterile 0.5 FL OZ (15 ML)
Hello everyone! I'm actually in another thread here at med chats, and I was just given a heads up by David that you are all looking for Visine LR alternative. Well here is what I posted in my other thread : I used Visine LR for over 20 years. Since its discontinuation, I've researched many eye drops and their ingredients. The only one that works amazingly, is Opcon-A! The oxymetazoline is absent but nephazoline is just as effective. My eyes are not red and lasts long periods. Thank goodness because I thought I would never find an alternative. It works! I totally recommend it
I went on the Internet to look into making my own eye wash or drops at home. As a result, I'm very concerned about sterilization. I would rather have a company create a safe eye drop than taking the risk of damaging my eyes.
I've written Walmart again--by mail. I hope someone responds this to me this time.
I think I'm a little hesitant putting a nasal spray into my eye
Have you tried afrin like some on here are suggesting mixed with half saline? I might give it a try, because yeah you're right, sooner or later all the available bottles will expired and/or get used. I contacted Visine, by email and phone, and they just keep wanting me to take surveys about why I use it. So I took them but never heard any thing, but more "tell us more" emails. So maybe they're listening. Good for signing the petition, it's all we can do.
I signed the petition hopefully who ever is in charge of it will let us know what they hear
I can't believe this is happening. It was my go to eye drop for yrs. It is that one specific ingredient at .025%.There's others that put other ingredients in them and actually make my eyes redder I have two bottles that expired 12/14 and one almost empty bottle . It hasn't expired. I signed the petition. The company hasn't said anything?
Actually, any decongestant nasal spray with oxmetazoline as the active ingredient should work.
Thanks bob !!!
Thanks Bob.
Are you using the Afrin Original in the red box.....there are many types of Afrin No drip online.......Hope it works for me.
Iggy, I use an empty Visine bottle, fill half way with afrin (make sure it is not the non-drip formula) and fill the remaining way with distilled water or saline (deluting the oxymetazoline to 0.025). So far so good.
Bob
HI, do they ship the prescrips to you?
How do you mix the two? do you add a drop of afrin and a drop of distilled water into a bottle? Help!!
Thanks to all who responded. These eye drops work best for me to.
