Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 26)

Having problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Earlier in this thread, Afrin was being discussed as an alternative to Visine L.R. It does seem logical since every listed ingredient in Afrin seems to match several of the ingredients in VLR (and other brands of eye drops as well). But I've talked to 3 pharmacists about this and each strongly recommended against using Afrin in the eye (even if diluted to .025%). Reason: the Afrin mixture is not "isotonic" to the eye, even if the ingredients are similar. Having said that, if anyone has decided to use diluted Afrin as an eye drop anyway, I'd be interested in hearing the results.
wow! didn't know there were so many people with the same chronic dry eye problem and who also used Ocuclear and now Visine LR. I know I'm probably addicted to Visine LR but like the rest of you, it is the only thing that works for the redness. (used for 15 yrs!) I just tried the B & L maximum redness and it's working well but i'm afraid of the overuse warning making the redness worse. Anyone experience this?
South Africa makes the eye drops but so far I have not been able to get anyone to ship to the US. I have been using Visine LR for many years and Occu-clear before it was discontinued. It is the only thing that works for me. I have reached out to a supplier in South Africa (M-KEM Medicine City) but haven't heard back yet. I told them there is large market for this product in the US. I'm not sure how US trade works with SA but it's worth the effort to try to purchase from a company that we at least know makes it. I'll post any new updates.
woow!! noo wonder! I really go crazy looking for my eyes drops! I just looked on ebay and those drops cost over $150.00 just one .5mm bt. that its a very good business ! can`t believe they do that ! I really need my LR VISINE, I too had 20 different kinds of drops and not one helped me, only visine Lr Long Lasting so some one can do something ??? hellooo!! business !!! Corporate !!! Rhonda we have same problem ! god !!!
The Walmarts in Colorado never carried the LR, only Walgreens did. I wonder if you did with Walgreens what you did with Walmart, because there are a lot of both here. I will sign the petition every one else has, because really it's the only product JJ makes for red eye that actually works, it's ridicoulous they would discontinue it, or maybe just to sell more of the regular eye drops. Maybe people think if they use more they will work...they don't. Good luck, thanks for taking up the cause!
visine LR. the only that woks w/ me , use few years, they is a vase contrictor, looks so because stops redness, so is no natural. my eye dr. told me may cause addiction. but nothing works like it. So i do not know what to do. I just got clear eyes, maximum redness relief. w. / naphazoline hydrocloride 0.03%. no work. Visine please do something.
I have used Visine LR and the previous version of it since it came out my eye dr. told me i was pretty much addicted to it. So in trying to find a alternative I have tried every single brand every one and have spent 100's of $$ Its been off the market here since July and until recently my eyes were red and gritty and just plain tired. I tried OPCON-A its the best my eyes have felt since summer it keeps them white they don't feel gritty and not as tired feeling as before. All the Dry Eye products leave a film over my eye so if Visine doesn't decide to start production again this is my best alternative.
Please let me know if it works for you and keep me updated on any comebacks with Visine LR. :)
Yes Christina, I get the feeling Johnson & Johnson is done with us too. I'm mostly going to concentrate on other companies. The same way J&J created Visine LR to grab the consumers of OcuClear is the same way another company can now develop something similar to Visine LR.
I hope.
It's just a shame that manufacturers cause so many people to waste their hard-earned money. Why fill all those shelves with differently packaged and labeled eye drops that don't work?
A lot of consumers just didn't know that there was at least one eye drop (Visine LR) they could count on to do its job. And it never made your eyes sting.
Rhonda,
Wow! That is great that Johnson and Johnson actually wrote to you and acknowledged your letter to Walmart. I think they will no longer respond to me
because of the petition I started.
Either way, now Johnson and Johnson has been notified by Walmart (a huge business) and hundreds of people about the need to bring Visine LR back or make another eyedrop with oxymetazoline.
I am cautious to get my hopes up, but it seems that Johnson and Johnson may be thinking about something in the future? I wonder if the "manufacturing complexities" involved oxymetazoline or another ingredient in Visine LR?
I have also tried both of the Visine products they recommended. They did not help me at all. In fact, I think they are many of us that have actually tried ALL remaining Visine products on the market with no success.
Thank you for your letters and for posting the results!
I've been using B&L OpCon 50 it works pretty good a little stinging sometimes but the best so far.
momsasaynt,
Thank you for that quick response. There are very FEW eye drops that truly work.
I've tried both of those they leave a film on my eyes and don't provide the same relief
Another goody:
Yesterday, I received a letter from Jennifer S. of the "Consumer Care Center" (Johnson and Johnson), acknowledging the letter I wrote to Walmart.
The letter says Visine LR was discontinued due to "manufacturing complexities." It also states, "We are currently evaluating opportunities to leverage the oxymetazoline ingredient in new and exciting products in the future."
The letter goes on to recommend using: "Visine Maximum Redness Relief Formula" and "Visine Totality Multi-Sympton Relief."
Of course, I haven't tried either of these products, have you?
The letter went on to thank me for providing feedback and for being such a valued customer.
I still wish Walmart would make the oxymetazoline eye drops for us.
Tried the Bausch and Lomb yeah I've tried that it works pretty well better than the other 10 I've tried still wears off faster than the LR and it burns the 2nd time I put it in
Hi fellow sufferers. The correspondence with Walgreens is encouraging. In October last year Fred mentioned Allergex in South Africa has the Visine LR 'magic ingredient' and Meenal found Zoamet also but only available in India. Also I recall someone finding on Alibaba a manufacturer in China. Rhonda-as you have the contact with Walgreen's perhaps you could ask them to try and stock from any of these 3 suppliers as its easier than them having to manufacture it? I live in London and have tried every option in europe to find a supplier. Thanks, Patrick.
Hi momsasynt. Have you tried it yet?
Thank you, Christina!
Yea, I thought I was going to get a simple, short, "manufactured" response from Walmart. But I was so pleasantly surprised. The gentleman took the time to write a nice, substantial letter and he signed it.
I need to try more of the recent eye drops before I write more letters to people. I would like to be able to tell them something like, "I tried this one and that one, but they still didn't work for me as well as the Visine LR with oxymetazoline."
I'm sorry to hear that Opcon-A did not work for you. That's a bummer.
I just haven't had the money right now to keep trying different eye drops. I'm also not as brave as one of the posters here, who returns the eye drops to the stores when they don't work.
Rhonda,
What a great job! I am glad that you got a response from Walmart. It seems that they took the matter seriously. Moreover, they have told Johnson and Johnson to bring Visine LR back and they themselves are aware that there aren't any eyedrops currently on the market with oxymetazoline.
We can only hope that Walmart and/or Prestige Brands (whom I have contacted) or any other manufacturers people here want to contact, will listen to our pleas. There is a definite market and need for these eyedrops.
I hope the eyedrops they have recommended work for you and others.
Everything I have tried, including Opcon, just didn't work for me. I really think for some reason I need oxymetazoline as the main ingredient.
Good Luck!
Yes I'm using that with visine tired eye.it does the job, not quite as good but helps. Use 1 drop in each eye, then the other rt after, keep your eyes shut to lubricate, apply again if needed, I usually have to do it twice to feel fresh.
