Visine LR Update:

I found Visine LR on line at Hocks.com for $3.99 ea. Just ordered. I also noticed it listed as a current product on Visine's website but in a different (new) packaging. The box looks like the original and advanced relief blue trim box but the lettering reads LONG LASTING REDNESS RELIEF in a red background with yellow gold highlight. See URL: http://www.visine.com/product-visine-lr.jsp ; I haven't seen this new one on store shelves but I intend to ask the stores to order it. Good luck

Drugstore.com is currently out. So is CVS.com and Walgreens.com. Here we go again!

As of writing this Drugstore.com does say it is currently out of stock, but it also says that they will be able to ship in 1-2 weeks.

That's better than what was happening before where there was no estimated restocking date. Looks like the manufacturer is back in production, but the initial demand spiked up...

Ordered and received in 4 days two bottles of Visine LR at $3.99 from Hocks.com with $2.25 s/h charges. No hassle! Perfect! I will take bottle into local pharmacies to ask stores to re-add it to the shelves.

Went to Walmart, they ran out of Visine lr. My brother told me about ebay, found one on ebay for $4.99.
Thank goodness, too many flowers blooming now.

Visine LR. is now made by Johnson & Johnson... it is packaged in a new Visine box. It's Visine LONG-LASTING REDNESS RELIEF. I know your saying it's not the same eye drops....but it is, under this new name. It has the exact SAME ingredents as Visine LR....Oxymetazoline HCI 0.025% Redness reliever...Inactive Ingredients are exactly the same. This product is under new packaging.

I just bought ten bottles at Drugstore.com along with some other stuff, and no indication of them being out of stock or even short. Their price is just over $5 a bottle, but with free shipping. There are opportunistic scammers on Amazon trying to get upwards of $20 a bottle for it, so steer clear of that once-reliable website.

The whole shortage thing is weird though - this isn't a temporary distribution problem, I've noticed it getting increasingly scarce from shelves in the LA area since roughly spring of 2009; now it's literally impossible to find without considerably more driving around than I'm willing to do. I look for it in every grocery store and drugstore I enter and it's always: zilch.

It's possible it's just gotten pushed to the end of the line in Visine's box-and-product-line revamp project, but I remember this same thing happening with Ocu-Clear several years ago. The active ingredient in all of Visine's new products is either naphazoline or tetrahydrozoline, which for me are the equivalent of dumping rat poison in my eyes - and about as effective at redness relief. Those two chemicals are '70s technology with a redness relief duration of roughly 20 minutes.

Oxymetazoline, on the other hand, lasts most of the day and does not sting in the slightest when I put it in. The only downside - I was told by an optometrist - is that it's addictive in the sense that if you stop using it your eyes will tend to be far redder than they usually are without drops. He also said that the exaggerated redness is temporary - if you refrain from using it for a couple of weeks your body will have weaned itself off of the chemical and you'll be back to normal bloodshot bliss.

That doesn't answer the question of why Visine - and other eye drop companies - aren't using this clearly superior vasoconstrictor in all of their products.

Has anyone called Visine lately?
I too have been looking at many different stores and pharmacies throughout San Diego. I found 2 bottles several weeks ago and haven't found anything since.

I would have thought their distribution glitch would have been solved by now.

Called Visine today. After 25 minutes, waiting and talking to Robin, I was told that VISINE LR 1 oz. bottles were
discontinued in May 2009. She will have to get back to me about the .5 oz bottles??? Amazing, huh?

I have been using Visine LR for years. During the past year, I had a noticeable increase in floaters. Anyone else experience this? If so, this may be the reason J&J pulled the product and is now covering with a lot of smoke to avoid potential lawsuits.

To Jerry,
Yes, I am convinced there is a relationship between over-using Visine and floaters. Every time and used Visine for a couple of days in a row I ended up with new floaters.

I've been having trouble for awhile too and I've tried every other similar product and they don't work for me. The Johnson/Johnson site referred me to Drugstore.com where I was able to buy it online. It doesn't seem to be discontinued but the retail stores claim that it is. Maybe we should all send J&J the message that we would like it returned to the shelves.
