Rhonda,

It was a good idea to look up what the celebrities are using. We have to stay creative! Anyway, I agree with Christina in PA. I also tried the Rhoto's eyedrops but unfortunately they didn't work for me. My eyes were still red and didn't bring me any relief. Honestly I don't know if there will ever be eyedrops manufactured in the US with oxymetazoline? I just don't get it.

Thank you, Christina in PA.

You're saving me some money. I was thinking the "tingling" feeling was only slight.

I haven't tried Allergex yet, but maybe that will be next on my list. It would just be so great if one of the companies/pharmacies would decide to use oxymetazoline in eye drops again. It would make my year.

Rhonda,

I tried the Rohto drops when we were all trying different drops as an alternative to the LR. The cooling ones just BURNED so badly going in. They just weren't as good as the LR IMHO. Also, not as good as the B & L for me personally. I find them anywhere, like my grocery store and my local Walmart. I ended up throwing the bottle away. Couldn't even finish it. The B & L at least feel as good as the LR do first thing in the morning. Some days I can get the initial drops I put in my eyes in the morning to last all day/night. Most days I have to use morning and late afternoon. For now; I'm testing out Allergex and Oxylin. I've already repurchased the Allergex at a lower price-point after my initial purchase of two bottles -- so I felt it was a good deal. I find the Allergex to be as good, if not better than LR.

So, I was just "browsing" around on my computer, when the thought came to me: "How do celebrities keep their eyes white?"

Then I decided to use that as a search and I came up with a site that says beauty editors and makeup artists rely on products like "Rohto's Cooling Eye Drops" and Innoxa's Blue Drops from Switzerland. I was like, "Wuh?"

I've never heard of these eye drops before, have any of you?

Anyway the Rohto's supposedly tingle when you put them in your eyes and do well at relieving redness.

When I can, I'm going to try these drops.

I was just thinking that movie stars wear makeup, etc and they have to have bright eyes when they appear on set and on talk shows and what not.

I see the Rohto's brand on Amazon with great reviews. I figure it is worth a try.

I've discovered so many helpful home remedies, cosmetics and products that are never in ads or in commercials. We always see the common, famous brands. We have to really look for what we want. The Internet certainly helps.

I am too scared to try using Afrin mixture. I like CENDO ASTHENHOF, the best as a replacement for Visine LR. It's made in Indonesia & very cheap locally in Indonesia. But they can be found online at an astronomical price. So I use these very sparingly.

Otherwise Visine A (works for a couple of hours) & Allergex (stings my eyes after a few hours), purchased from Expat Shop in South Africa on regular basis.

Rick,

Thank you! I am willing to try this. So it makes sense just to remove the artificial tears and add the Afrin from there.

Cristina. I use the stop & shop - care one brand artificial tears. Top comes off fairly easily. Just make sure you're careful not to contaminate it. Remove enough artificial tears until it is level with the top of the sticker on the bottle. Then fill to the top with Afrin (approx 25% mixture). Works like a charm. Key is to use the least amount per day. I only use 1 drop in each eye in the am. In the past, The more I use the more difficult it was to keep my eyes from being bloodshot the following day. If you're using drops a couple times a day then you might need to skip an entire day without any drops in order for this to be effective. Just plan on staying home that day :)

So I caved and purchased 1 Allergex and 1 Oxylin (some sellers sell a combo pack)... and I REALLY like the Allergex the best. I wish I wasn't so chicken to order this from South Africa on my own. I may order two bottles with a credit card that I can load up and not my own credit cards to see how it goes. Oxylin has some kind of other ingredient that adds like a moisturizing agent... and it stung a little going in. Allergex is almost an exact dupe for Visine LR. I still have about half a bottle of LR left... so I'm alternating 4 drops now... Visine LR, Allergex, Oxylin and B & L. B & L is still a good and a cheap alternative. Not sure how much longer I will be able to afford 60ish dollars for two bottles of the other stuff every-so-often.

I also like Allergex the best and Oxylin also works but it appears that even they are becoming obsolete so I just stocked up in case they also go off the market. I'm trying to avoid putting Afrin in my eyes as much as possible!

I still haven't tried the Afrin and the Artificial tears. I guess you can say I'm chicken to try it. For those of you using them, what kind of mixing medium do you use, bottle, and how do you control the ratio of drops?

In the meantime, because I had stocked up on Visine LR due to a previous shortage that we recovered from - I was using, what I thought was my last full bottle. Until the other day I was cleaning out my carry on bag and found a sealed bottle in the bag! I screamed with delight :) The expiry date was 5/15 -- but I don't care, as the bottle was sealed in a cool, dry environment. During the last few bottles, I would alternate between 3 types of drops and using my Visine LR every 3rd day. I alternated between 1) Visine LR 2) Zoamet (from India) and 3) Baush and Lomb (sp) Advanced Redness relief. All I can say is I'm glad I did not purchase more than 2 bottles of Zoamet from Ebay. For the price point, they just don't work that well for me. I think the Zoamet dries my eyes too much. So I yesterday was my last few drops of Zoamet and now I'm just alternating between 1 and 3 options listed above. I really like the feeling of the Baush and Lomb as it really has that instant relief feeling that Visine LR gave me first in the morning. Just not as long lasting as the Visine LR. However, for me, it's quite a viable solution. I'm just quite curious as to how ones that are using the Afrin mix it and control the drops, etc.

Karl. I usually put 1 drop in each eye while still in bed in the am to keep it from running. BTW are you diluting the afrin? I do 25% afrin and the rest artificial tears. Works great!!

Based on others' posts, I decided to try Afrin nasal spray. The only criticism I have is that it seems more "watery" than eye drops, it tends to run out of my eye.

Since Afrin has more Oxymetazaline (3% vs. 2.5%) it is a little stronger, and the larger bottles are cheaper than the little Visine LR bottles were.

So far so good after one month regular use.

Hi, Does anyone have any contacts in Jakarta? As this would be helpful too get CENDO ADTHENOF, the best replacement for Visine LR, at a reasonable price .

Chris, where do you order Allergex from? I have ordered Allergex and I love it! However, I noticed sellers are raising their prices. I tried to order online and had a bad experience. It didn't get shipped for a month. I had to keep emailing and when it finally arrived to the U.S., I was asked by the transportation company to produce a copy of my prescription, passport and an invoice. Much the same experience I had when trying to order Oxylin. I have no problem ordering Zoamet but I prefer Allergex. I agree with you in that it does seem to work a little better than l.r. All in all I just wish for an oxymetazoline drop to become available in the U.S. again.

I looked at amazon and it looks like Visine can be ordered from there. Even if you do not have a computer, you can use one at the library to order it.

This is interesting, please re-post if you discover any problems.
What would happen if you used Afrin without cutting it with an eye drop?
I looked at the Afrin ingredients and they look tame enough, but I don't know what all they are.

Prior to using the last of my visine lr, I began the search for an alternative. Any brands over the counter in the U.S. did not work for me. I tried Zoamet and it is ok, but results didn't last very long. I then tried Allergex and I am very satisfied. I believe it's better than lr and my eyes are whiter for longer.

I finally gave in and started making my own mixture of approximately 25% Afrin and 75% artificial tears about 3 weeks ago. This is the ratio that works perfect for me. I use only 1 drop in each eye only once first thing in the am and my eyes stays clear for most of the day. From my experience the more I used visine lr the more bloodshot my eyes would be the following day. I use to do 2 drops in each eye in the am and if I was going out at night I would do another drop in the evening I was forced to use my last bottle of visine only 1x a day to make it last longer and started noticing my eyes being clearer the next day. I had about 1/2 a bottle of my expired LR left when I decided to experiment. I'm so glad I did. I feel it works so much better than my old bottle. (Probably because it was expired). Anyways I've had no issues with the mixture. Doesn't burn my eyes. I was concerned of getting an eye infection if I contaminated while mixing it but so far so good. ( I was extra cautious when removing the cap off of the artificial tears bottle/ stop & shop care one brand) This relieved the anxiety building up when I was down to my last bottle. Having bloodshot eyes for most of my life has been a great source if embarrassment for me. Good luck to everyone on here with whatever direction you decide.

I emailed Visine and they replied that the product was discontinued in July 2014 due to manufacturing difficulties. The translation of this biz-speak is that the small runs of Visine LR just weren't profitable enough. They did say that they continue to look at "exciting" product ideas using oxymetazaline. There are a number of overseas producers of oxy eye drops, but they are all in the $30-$60 range, where I used to by Visine LR for $6 or less. Also, nasal sprays still use oxy in the same strength, but nasal sprays usually contain menthol, saline, or citrus, making them dangerous for the eyes. One last idea would be to ask your doctor or pharmacist if they could make a supply of solution containing oxymetazoline.

Dear all,

I am finally really satisfied with Cendo Asthenof Oxymetazoline (Similar to Visine LR Long Lasting). Excellent product but difficulty in obtaining it and is very expensive. Also the bottles contain only 5 ml instead of the average 15 ml. It is manufactured in Indonesia and it's really very inexpensive if purchased in Indonesia.
