Viibryd Side Effects (Page 6) (Top voted first)
UpdatedWhat if any side effects are people experiencing on viibryd
I was on viibryd for 5.5 months and had to get off it in an emergency type way it made me so ill that I could barely walk, I was being a trooper with the side effects but by the 5.5 month 40mg it was doing serious damage. It has been nearly two months since I stopped and I still receive an occasional brain shock.
One more thing... That loud humming or zapping or zooming sound that comes out of nowhere... What is that and why am I still having it every so often as I fall asleep even a month out from coming off the viibryd? I'm a physician (but NOT a psychiatrist) and it seems for me at least to be related to falling into REM sleep too quickly. I hit the pillow and fall immediately into the brain whooshing/zooming and dreaming... That is NOT how normal sleep works. REM or dream sleep is supposed to come much later in the sleep cycle so something in this medication is seriously messing with the sleep stages... Horrifying stuff. I hope we all can recover.
I was on Viibryd for 5.5 months and ignored all the joint and muscle pain but by the 5th month I was practically crippled. I stopped it immediately and my body improved. I still seem to get brain zaps despite that I have been off it now for about 3 months. Most doctors have not a clue what this medication does to people.
Hmmmm... meth. Why didn't the rest of us think of that? It would be perfect if it weren't for the police raids, severe addiction, ruined teeth, paranoia, catastrophic crash after use, ruined families, living on the streets, stealing from loved ones to get the next fix, and a list of other potentially death-inducing side effects. Diarrhea from using Viibryd is so much worse!
I have been off the Viibryd now over a month and I still can't hardly walk. The doctor's are going to diagnosis me with Rheumatoid Arthritis. This Viibryd is what started this all!
I am routinely amazed at the amount of hyperbole and opinion that get presented on this site as fact. Can Viibryd kill you? My guess is it could.. and so can Tylenol. People have bad reactions and even die from prescription and OTC drugs all the time. It's unfortunate, but it's also the risk you run when introducing a foreign substance into your body. But it would be myopic of me (or anyone else) to present as fact that a product is "poison" because it has side effects. Just as Viibryd doesn't work for some individuals, I wasted a lot of time taking Lexapro and suffered plenty of negative secondary reactions. That doesn't mean its bad for everyone else.
I believe Viibryd has some sort of reaction with the muscles in your body. I'm totally off Viibryd now but I believe the damage is done. I'm 57 and never had issues with my back till now, some days I can hardly walk. I did some research and I think it's caused by my piriformis muscle constricting on my sciatic nerve.
I was prescribed ViiBryd in October of 2011, and started tapering off of it in January of this year (2013) and stopped completely in March 2013. For the first two or three months or so on this medication, mentally, I felt amazing, euphoric, and more hopeful than I had in ages. I also didn't have the "cloudy mind" feeling that Paxil and Zoloft had given me, or signs of sexual dysfunction. Not too far in, however, I did begin to experience the crazy symptoms many of you have described. Taking the pill would make me drowsy and sleepy, so I decided that it was best for me to take it shortly before going to bed. This meant that nearly every evening, in the hours leading up to the time when I would take the pill, I would start experiencing brain zaps. Sometimes they were mild, other times constant. I've never been a great sleeper, but I also developed sleeping disorders I had never had before, like night terrors, sleep paralysis, inability to stay asleep, even an instance or two of "exploding head syndrome."
Because the initial mental reaction to Viibryd was so positive, I decided to ride it out and see if these other side effects subsided. Well, they did subside a bit, but after a few months, the medication did nothing for my depression. In fact, I sunk into the worst depression of my life last summer and ended up hospitalized. At this point, the only reason I continued to stay on Viibryd was because I was tired of switching to new medications, and missing dosages of Viibryd would leave me feeling very angry and irritable.
Then, here's where it hit me - I got a haircut and realized that my hair was very thin. I am only 27 and nobody in my family tree has any hair loss, and less than a year ago my hair was thick and full, so this was not natural. I decided to cut out all possible factors that could be contributing to my hair loss, most notably coming off of Viibryd. Since coming off, my hair shedding has slowed down significantly, and here's the other VERY surprising thing: I didn't change my diet or level of physical activity in any significant way, yet, since tapering off of Viibryd, I have dropped close to 30 POUNDS!!
I have yet to try an anti-depressant that I felt really helped me, but Viibryd was by far the worst. It's side effects, both instant and long term, are quite severe, and unlike most medications, seem to be occurring in nearly everyone that has taken it. My advice is to stay away from Viibryd at all costs!
I have taken Viibyrd since May 10, 2013......I feel better with the depression. but I am getting less tolorance, strike out easily (not like me) around 3:00 in the afternoon I become extremely sleepy, can't stay awake, and in sleep I feel like I am trying to move or yell at someone and I can't move. It is crazy because I feel I am awake and know what I am doing but still feel removed and cannot move......It last about 15 mins or so, I wake up or get up and just feel crazy.....hard to explain. I take the pill in the evening and it is 40 mg......the last four days I have been cutting it in half. I have appt with Dr next week....can anyone relate or give me some encouragement?
I'm so upset that I started this drug!! My doc added this to my wellbutrin 150 back in Oct 2012. I thought it was great----at first! Then came the brain zaps and some of you call them. Especially bad at night when it gets quiet. Then the awful nightscares! I have never had such scary dreams. In December, once I was at full dosage, I started having spasms in my hands and feet, like I had Muscualar dystrophy. On christmas eve, I was in bed having awful pain down my legs. I went off the meds gradually. It wasn't worth it. The PROBLEM is, here we are July 31, 2013, 7 months later and I still have the pain in my legs and feet. I sometimes can't sleep. I have to take lyrica now but it doesn't help completely. I'm only 49, sometimes are can hardly walk and forget wearing heels for long periods. My suggestion is to do your homework on this stuff and decide if the side effects are worth it, especially if they won't go away, like mine.
I had a friend go to a CEU meeting and was told that Viibryd is causing people to have Parkinson Disease symptoms. Can be short term or long term. The lady said that some people are being treated with Parkinson's meds and seeing some improvement. Just an FYI.
I almost killed myself on this drug! I felt like my whole life was unravelling, mainly because it was!!! NOBODY understood my odd behavior...especially me. My aches in my body were horrible and my stomach cramps were almost unbearable. Also I believe I have permanent memory damage. I get so much more confused now than I ever did. I hate that these people use us as guinea pigs. No more!
Sailboat53, yes i know what you mean about it not being for you and i just want you to know that you are not alone. Also great job on being sober. Not an easy thing to do at all. Seems like majority of doctors just don't care when you tell them what you're going through or they look at you like you're just another mental case.
I am a 54 yr old woman. I am on my 2nd trail pack of viibryd. I just started taking 20mg. I have started having major pains in my shoulder. I thought it was stiff joints from a fall I had in Feb of this year. Now I think it maybe from the medicine. My taste buds have changed and I was smoking a lot. Now I don't want to smoke (which is good). I take it along with Tegratol and Klonopin. I slept like a baby for the first few nights...now I sweat and freeze at the same time at night to where I can not sleep. I was on Prozac for years to where the Doctor thought I had got to used to it and was not working anymore. That is why I was changed to the Viibryd. I don't know what to do? Whether I should keep trying it for awhile or get off it. My shoulder has really hurt to where I had to take Bufferin or another pain medication. I have also had to use a heating pad. I never dreamed the pain in my shoulder was from the Viibryd.
OMG I was on 40 mg after a starter pack of 10 then 20 then 40mg for 2 wks and had a huge week of blow ups with agitation ... I was 3 times more depressed and thought I was psychotic and am surprised my family did not leave me. My psychiatrist gave me the choice on the phone tonight to discontinue it and I see him tomorrow to discuss a new medication option. I thought this was my answer. Viibryd is EVIL. Glad you are okay now tool
I have been off Viibryd for months now, and still have severe joint and muscle pain. Hard to walk at times. I wish I was never put on the Viibryd. Never had any of this prior to med. I don't feel any improvement at all. I hope they pull it from the market and quit making people miserable.
I am a 49 yr old female. Tried Viibryd for @ 3 mos. Terrible mood swings and joint pain after reaching the 40 mg dosage. Had to stop the medication because the physical side effects were unbearable. Joint pain, severe nausea and mood swings - worse than before taking the drug.
I was hoping someone would know if this joint pain would go away.
Exactly. All medications have side effects. But just because a person has experienced a side effect of a medication DOES NOT make him or her an expert on it such that they can say "DO NOT TAKE THIS!" For the record, here are the "reported" side effects of 5-HTP. There could be many more, but it has not been studied extensively. Many of these sound worse than Viibryd:
5-HTP may cause abdominal pain, absence of menstrual bleeding, agitation, aggressiveness, anorexia, anxiety, depressed mood, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, ear buzzing, eosinophilia, eosinophilia myalgia syndrome (EMS), euphoria, fatigue, gas, gastrointestinal side effects, hand wringing, headache, heartburn, hives, hypomania, impaired decision-making, increased appetite, increased blood cortisol or kynurenine, irritability, loss of inhibition, lowered blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, mania, muscle pain or weakness, nausea, pacing, palpitations, psychic hyperkinetic syndrome, rapid speech, restlessness, seizure, scleroderma-like symptoms, sleep changes, slowed heart rate, sodium retention, strong muscle contractions, sweating, taste changes, vertigo, vivid dreams, vomiting, or weight gain
I started Viibryd in January in hopes it would help after having some brutal side effects with Wellbutrin. I became agitated on Wellbutrin, had insomnia, and became even more depressed. I began Viibryd and had horrible GI issues, the nausea was simply unbearable at times, and then I started gaining weight. I had intense sweet cravings during that time and even tried to curb them. I ate less, worked out, and five months later, I gained 30 pounds. I have been a steady weight the last 8 years and unfortunately when I started this medication, I put almost 10 pounds on in the first month. I made my doctor aware as well but she said it's not a side effect which in my opinion is complete BS. I had taken myself off slowly about a month in a half ago and losing the weight is pretty hard. I'm really upset and disappointed. I also had intense memory loss which I didn't realize until people started pointing out to me. I hope this is out of my system soon.
I feel a lot better mentally and as if I can handle things easier since I've been off but this is a process.
I don't recommend this medication at all. I'm happy I stopped!
I have been off it for months and months now and I still get around like an old lady, my leg muscles and my feet are in pain all the time. The pains in my head come and go, some days I can't hardly take the head pain. I am still hoping this is not permanent damage, but I have the feeling it is! Please people don't take this medicine. It did help with my depression when I was on it, but the side effects are not worth it.
