Viibryd Side Effects (Page 13) (Top voted first)
UpdatedWhat if any side effects are people experiencing on viibryd
I took Vii for exactly a month. After titrating up to 40 mg, I started getting this strange feeling like I wasn't actually there... I had very frequent childhood memories flash into my mind. I have been off for 2 weeks, but I am still feeling horribly anxious and depressed. I think this is probably the worst "medication" I have ever taken. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy.
I'm one week off and am wondering how long it will take to go away. I'm ready to check myself in the hospital because I'm so sick from this medicine. When does all the side effects go away?
I am off now about 14 months, my body was damaged with the muscle aches and the severe pain in my head at times. It is hard for me to walk. It feels like my hamstrings are stiff from the back of my legs to my toes. I am happy for those that have had success from this med. I just know it wasn't for me and I hope in the months or years to come that this will improve. My feet hurt horrible. Started with swimming recently for the muscles, reg exercise and working with exercise bands were not a success. hope the best for you all.
Aly, I am in pain all over. I have had labwork and MRI's and injections....It is the Viibryd. I don't know why doctor's won't believe. I am 53 y/o and when I get up to move it is like a 80 y/o lady getting up. My feet hurt terribly and the brain zaps are awful. I have been off over a year now, beginning to think these are permanent side effects.
@SCARED,
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO USE STAIRS, CAN HARDLY WALK AT ALL IN THE MORNINGS TO.
I also have an update after being on Viibryd for about 10 weeks now. I noticed a huge lift in my mood around weeks 3-5, then the lift seemed to dissipate completely. The only think I can think that changed is the shrink I started seeing prescribed me 0.5mg of Xanax XR, and a sleep med (first Sonata, then Lunesta).
It's possible the combo of those drugs took away the happy effect of the Viibryd I was feeling, so I am now in the process of coming off those other meds and I feel better already. So with some SSRI's or perhaps Viibryd itself, certain drug combos might counteract the effect.
Other than that, I've had NO side effects from Viibryd whatsoever...no crazy dreams, no gastro issues, no zombification, nothing. I drink a regular cup of coffee in the morning and that's it. No alcohol whatsoever. I take Viibryd first thing in the morning with a glass of milk or cereal. Tried taking it at night and it kept me up a long time, just FYI.
Has anyone had the balls of their feet swell? I thought it was from working on them but even on vacation they feel numb.
I actually get golf ball size lumps on the bottom of my feet. I have horrible inflammation and joint and muscle
Pain all over. Elbows hands and wrists and feet are horrible and swell and are painful. It migrates from place to place. Even the palms of my hands swell so bad I can't use my hand at all.
I have been suffering from extremely bad anxiety and situational depression most of my life (I just turned 33) I also have migraines and ibs flare ups.. today I went to my doc and said I had enough and I need a STRONG antidepressant, I have already been on Xanax for over 13 years since my daughter (who has severe medical and developmental delay/brain damage issues) was born .. I have been on every antidepressant out there and they just don't do anything , the only thing besides the Xanax that has helped me was years ago I was on Adderall for about 3 years but became addicted to it so I stopped. . Anyways my doc put me on Vii , after reading ever ones posts I'm a bit nervous. . Especially about the diarrhea and stomach issues .. also wondering is this a stimulant? Technically yes or no? I don't want to end up where I was with the Adderall again .. but I DEFINITELY need something for the depression and anxiety, I have become so isolated and have zero motivation to do anything, I have also suffered with (can't think of the name right now) when you can't leave the house ? But I'm feeling like I'm getting back to that place and it scares me
I was on Celexa for over a year but found it only helped with depression and not anxiety. Plus I gained weight, which was extremely frustrating given I work out a lot and eat relatively healthy. I went to a new doctor and she recommended Viibryd. I've been on Viibryd for about four months now. The stomach issues do calm down, and I've found they are less so with a balanced, health diet. The more processes the food, the faster it "travels." I also have crazy dreams. I was told there is a stimulant in it, but I don't notice it so much. The only time I really question it is at night I sometimes get restless leg. When that happens, I take 5 mg of melatonin to calm me, but it's really not often. All in all, I'm very happy with it. I take it every day, so it helps reduce anxiety and I have so much more patience, especially with my 5 year old. I've never taken Adderall, but I don't think they are comparable. To me the side effects are manageable for the benefits.
Hi. Just wanted to say that I too have gained weight with Vii. I took Vii for about 2 yrs after gaining 10lbs on Efflexor. My doctor at the time assured me there was no weight gain issues to be scared of. My weight is one of my biggest "triggers" in my depression. Now 2 yrs later and almost 25lbs heavier. I only have the Vii to blame. I am an active adult, I eat very well & I work out at least 5 to 6x a week. I also have Carpal Tunnel in both wrist. I thought it was from my job & it did start there. But the last year, the pain has tripled! I have now found a new doctor that has placed me on a new med. We'll see how it goes...
I just turned 50 this year and was previously on Lexapro and Wellbutrin for anxiety and depression. They weren't working as effectively after awhile, so my doc switched me to Vii about a year ago. I wish I'd never started. -- I have terrible dreams, that even after I wake up, will continue where they left off if I try to sleep again. I have some serious tension in my jaw and must grind heavily throughout the night, because my teeth and jaw will ache the next morning and give me some whopper headaches. I also have balance issues, will walk into doorways, the sides of furniture - just as though I cut the corner too close, my vision is blurry at times, I have brain zaps and literally cry at the drop of a hat. If I don't take my Vii right ontime, I get into these crying jags. If I take it a few hours late, I can be sure I'll have a good case of restless leg syndrome that evening. I forget words I want to use in the middle a sentence, have had times I couldn't remember the name of a very close family member. My general concentration level just isn't there like it used to be. I also have gained a significant amount of weight... to the tune of 40 lbs and feel so out of control when it comes to the amount of food I eat and the fact that I want sweets constantly. While I don't have the arm joint issues of many on here, my hips, knees and the more than daily overlapping of my ribs is unbelievably painful, and quite debilitating. -- Yes, I've discussed these things with my Doc, but I'm feeling right now as though he thinks I'm a hypochondriac because he simply laughs and tells me I'm getting old. I can't seem to impress upon him that this has nothing to do with 'getting old' but more to do with 'something's very wrong' here. It's not normal. The worst, is when I'm standing in front of a group of people, conducting a meeting, and I can't remember a common key word, or can see an image of the thing in my mind, but can't form the word... that's so bad. My short-term memory is greatly affected. Sometimes, I can't remember things that have happened recently, or if asked, have difficulty recounting the sequence of events in the correct order. It's not all the time, but often enough. These issues are real and are affecting my quality of life. After seeing everyone's writings, I was glad in some ways to know I'm not the only one with these issues, but also feel scared, because if these side effects are supposedly reaching only 2-3% of those taking it, then there's obviously a serious problem with this drug. I'm beginning to understand that not only do I need a new doctor, but new medication, as well. Thanks so much everyone, for sharing.
Has anyone ever heard of Serotonin syndrome from taking vii and birth control? I think staring BC recently increased my side effects of vii. Brain zaps, itchy, lose stool, confusion, anxiety, and not being able to stay asleep. Im taking 40mg of Vii for about 1 year now, and just started nuvaring 2 weeks ago. Vii has worked great for my anxiety so far, but now I'm scared to death of how intense these side effects are…
So I was on 30 mg prior. My insurance changed and 30 mg is a pill and a half. United health care has refused to pay for that so they upped me to 40 mg. I have had brain zaps for a couple years now. I take my meds in the pm. My brain zaps come and go. But they are horrid. Hate them actually. I have spoken to my dr and she has said to take with food. I said I do I eat then at 930 I take my meds. She said thats not with food. And stay hydrated. Bam that is the ticket for me. I take my meds at 7 ish with my dinner. No brain zaps. Years later. Lol. I also have had nausea and headaches. But the nausea is not fun. I think it will pass. This med has changed my life. I have been able to function as a human again. Aside from things that arent that fun, I will continue with my meds until I dont know. If it works I am happy. Just know I have been in this med for approx 4 years. And this is the only med I take other than birth control for a health issue I have had. So it is a success!
I have been off almost 2 years. Still with pain in joints and brain zaps. I hate that a medication can do this to all off us on here, and the ones' it didn't glad for you. I recently started taking calcium and magnesium and zinc, chelated...You can get a bottle of all 3 mixed EDTA at Puritan Pride they have the cheapest. I have felt much better since I have started taking this combination. Read about chealation and people can get is in IV form, but I looked up oral d/t not having great insurance, and a doctor not believing that Vii is a monster. I really think I have noticed alot of difference. Alot less brain zaps and can actually move better. My feet used to hurt the worse and I notice an improvement. Worth a try.
Sorry to hear about all your horrid side effects. All I can say is been there done that for 6 months. It was 6 months of hell. Get off while you can. I won't be surprised if they recall it.
you have to take Viibryd for awhile to really experience the full effect. it's the only thing that has worked for me. And it's been many, many years. The only complaint I have, is i am very short tempered and cry very easily. I don't want to give it up but i can't seem to quit the temper issues.or crying at the drop of a hat. With that said, it's been the only thing that has truly worked to bring me out of the funk and into the daylight. Big difference. I'll try to figure out a way to keep the viibryd and get rid of the two symptoms. I'll be really sad if I have to give it up. Literally.
I have had restless legs for many years. Viibryd is less than a year. I've had achey joints before this med. Not worse than before. Nausea in the beginning, a little bit. Eat with it and space any other meds about half an hour after Viibryd.
I'm in my 3rd-4th month, and hope to get off it (tapering) beginning when I see my doc in 2 weeks. Luckily, no brain zaps, and the nausea/diarrhea isn't too bad since early on. However, the paralyzing dreams still come sometimes, and the worst is that I can't sleep at night ... probably because I'm in bed super-drowsy for at least 12-16 hours a day. I get up and do a chore or two, or go to appts or out to dinner with my very patient husband, but since I had something flu-like a month ago, I haven't been able to get rid of the body/muscle aches that are double/triple my usual pain level or have energy to get up and out of bed enough. Luckily, I'm not working.
K.T. I identify with you . I also have sleep aponea as wll as depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress syndrome . It is a struggle everyday. Some days , I don't think I'm going to make it. Fortunately, I have a daughter who won't let me die. She keeps me going . I hope you get through this. I hope I do as well. Prayers all around.
