Viibryd Has Anyone Else Had A Positive Experience? (Page 3)

Updated

I am starting to get a little nervous with all the negative feedback in this forum. I was on Cymbalta for a couple of years, but when my doctor increased the dosage I started gaining a lot of weight. He decided to put me on Viibryd. I just finished my trial pack and feel like I have much more energy and can get up earlier in the morning. I feel more focused on things and I feel like my libido is finally working again. The only thing that has happened negatively is the last two days I have been under a lot of stress and have been crying. But I don’t quite know if it is the medication because I may have just had a couple of bad days. I just increased to 40mg today. I am hoping to feel even better. I have not been as hungry since I started the medication so I was surprised to see that other people said that they gained weight on the medication. Has anyone else had a positive experience on this?

Two months ago, my Dr. prescribed Viibryd to me because in the last 5 yrs I've faced numerous issues within my home life and experiencing severe depression. I am a 45 yr old female that has a husband that continuously cheats, (this lead to his business failing cause he preferred to chase women than to monitor crews on the job). He was frivolous with money to the point he damaged our credit to the point he burnt our family home to collect ins money to cover debts I was unaware of. He purchased a second home which after two years HE decided to let go back to the bank as he secretly moved what personal items we had, leaving me to come home from work to find everything gone. He also let my vehicle go back and then purchased another under his dad's name so I would have no claim to it. I eventually lost my job because he would take that vehicle away from me as a means of trying to control me. My work place has a policy regarding attendance which he was fully aware of. So I am currently unemployed with no insurance and can not pay for this new medication and my husband won't pay for it either because he knows it has improved my depression. He calls me names such as psychotic bi*ch, tells our friends I need mental help, says I'm worthless, uses my own kids against me. All the times I tried to get help for my depression before he throws out my meds. I firmly believe he doesn't want me to feel better because he knows if I ever do I'll put in the effort to leave him! It's all a control issue with him and he knows Viibryd has helped me better than any thing else I've tried. But unfortunately I can't afford it and not taking it in 4 days now. This is a medicine that u are not to discontinue abruptly, so I am in fear of withdrawals. I am crying at numerous times throughout the day and night...feeling immensely hopeless!!! This medicine was giving me positive results and the only side effect was vivid dreams. But now I'm once again I'm without the stronger me I was becoming and ready to give up!

My doctor put me on Viibryd a year and a half ago. It was the first time taking an antidepressant and it gave me my life back!! I am 'me' again!! I started with 10 mg for a week then went up to 20mg. He wanted me to remain at 20mg because most people can't handle 40 mg...it's too strong. I had side effects such as dizziness, nausea, insomnia, etc. BUT, for me, the side effects were worth dealing with. The side effects gradually got better and were completely gone by 2 months. Once the viibryd leveled off in my system (after a few months) the Dr added Buproprion (generic Wellbutrin). I'm currently on 20mg Viibryd and 450mg ForFiv0 (buproprion). I feel better then I have in 20 years!!

Short background:
40-something female with a long history of mild depression as well as 2 major depressive episodes. I took Effexor (Venlafaxine) for almost 3 years. It offered a little relief and pulled me out of the major episode. Recently slid into another fairly major episode although I was still on Effexor. Doc suggested that I taper off of Effexor and try Viibryd. By the 3rd day at 10mg I could tell a difference. 15 days in and now at 20mg which I take in the morning. This med has helped me more than ANY I have taken in the past 20 years. I won't be moving up to 40mg unless absolutely necessary at some point.

Viibryd Pros for me:
Depression virtually gone.
"Brain fog" from Fibromyalgia greatly reduced. Not completely gone but definitely improved.
Improvement in energy level. Not to the level I'd like but as someone who lives with Fibro/Chronic Fatigue I'll take what I can get.
More recall of dreams. I see this as a plus because they aren't nightmares.
Slight increase in libido.

Viibryd Cons for me:
HAS to be taken with food so I have to force myself to eat a few bites of breakfast. While having breakfast is good for everyone, it's something I have to make myself do. I can live with it though.
Slight headaches, which are annoying but certainly not debilitating like the migraines I deal with on a regular basis.

As this point, I consider this to be a very positive experience and my hope is that it continues.

Does Viibryd need to be taken in the morning? Does anyone take it at night? I was on Lexapro and found it was better when I took it at night. I'm getting ready to start Viibryd and I don't know when i should take it.

Hi There, I wanted to respond and share with you my experience. It was both positive and negative.

I was on viibryd for a year and a 1/2. At 1st this was a miracle drug for me because while I was on it, my ex was very argumentative and me not being one to back down, I would argue back. Viibryd helped me control my anger and respond better to situations that made me uncomfortable; like walk away when I would normally fight back or let things slide that would normally put me into a "rant and rave" mode. So for me this drug was a god send. I was happier because of it.

Now mind you, I was already a dreamer...so the dream side effects didn't bother me until later on when they became more vivid and more frequent that I felt like when it was time to go to sleep, I wasn't sure if I was actually going to get rest or if I going to be coming up with some other new awesome sci-fi movie idea. LOL! Also the restless leg syndrome got worse and worse as time went on.

So I'd say for the 1st 6-8 months, this drug was wonderful for me. I did not gain weight, I had a handle on my emotions, I was sleeping fine and I was up to 40MG for probably 5 of those 8 months until I quit and I thought everything was going well but the longer I took it, the more prominent the side effects became.

So I believe that viibryd is ok for short term, but the long term effects would make my future self tell my past self NOT to take this if I had the chance to travel back in time. The withdrawal symptoms are the worst even when you miss ONE dose by a few hours. I gained 20lbs in the last 4 months on this drug as well WHILE I was doing lite work outs 2-3 times per week, no change in my diet during this time as well.

Every drug works differently for everyone so you should monitor your symptoms closely and if you have a good relationship with your prescribing doctor... communicate, communicate, communicate. If they are working for you great, but if you are experiencing any of the side effects, definitely talk to your dr. about weaning you off because this drug, you just CANNOT stop cold turkey. I hope this helps.

Hi Nannyforthethree,

You are not alone! My muscle wasting came after Vii. I saw a rheum. & he said I have sjrofens, lupus, or some RA...but my bloodwork came back neg. for those tests. My C-reactive protein & SED rate are high. I also feel like Vii screwed me up & has added to my PTSD from the nightmares, Sleep paralysis memories, & the horrifying discontinuation symptoms I experienced off & on for many mos. as I just couldn't get off vii until the 6th try? When the Dr. gave me Prozac. That was my miracle for finally getting off the devils drug, as you coined it. :)

How are you feeling now?

You know that you are on a place where people are looking for answers... Mainly bad things... There are lots of people with great experiences... Please ignore the one in here that will not shut up... I have had to report her and truly that is why I don't answer much anymore... My experience in the long run has been amazing... Been on it since it came out pretty much... Yes I had some side effects... But they went away.. I went to a pschy doc last month for the first time in my life... Went for another reason... Not meds just to talk about some things... Anyway while I was there she said she had only had one person that had a problem other than normal side effects... And that that person didn't have the side effects, just wasn't happy about anything...I wish you great luck!!! And hope this works for you... And if it doesn't... Something will. Please don't let all if the comments from a certain person worry you... You are you... Everyone is different. :) by the way... There is no weight gain with this med... Just make sure to take it with food... That is what I was told and if anyone is gonna gain from a med it is me... Thyroid problems.... Have a great day... Be happy and stop reading bad things... It is up to you...:)

Hey Reeya,

Same thing happened w/ me. All was fine for mos. on Vii & then BAM, one nite after missing my dose (I tried a few times successfully w/ AM or PM dosing to see what worked better) I had my 1st sleep paralysis attack & really frightening dreams!

Thanks for sharing your story. I am being followed here by an evil spirit vii drug pusher! Lol!

And no, why should I shut up & not tell my story, which is so similar to thousands of other stories (demonic dreams). All because 1 Viibryd addict cannot handle the truth. I'd like to think of it as paranoia that her drug might be taken away from her? Idk...it's just strange to be followed by someone on psychiatric medicine, that's all. A little creepy!

Hi Amy (post #13)...

Did you continue on the Vii after the demonic dreams began?

I am a Vii survivor too....so I know how you feel! I wouldn't wish those side effects on anyone!!!!

For the record, I have reported the person who said I should SHUT UP many times. For reasons as you can see. It is unfortunate that 1 person, a person successfully taking Vii, would actually waste their precious time to post here. As someone else said, it's impossible to find positive stories on bad experiences. And I find it comical that I replied to one person here & was told to shut up. Shiver. Downright creepy. I felt SAFE posing on this thread & out from nowhere she comes!

Never shutting up :)

Sorry someone told you to shut up....I had to report someone because of them spewing negativitity and nasty statements. I just got on here to at least let someone know that everyone doesn't have a problem with Vii....just to break up HER monotany of logic. And once again, she did it. She is not a very nice person....and I think she is on some kind of drug herself. It is bad when the only thing you have to do is spend your day on here and spread lies and rumors....but I am outta here...again....Have a great day!!! :)

Dear ls,

I definitely had to take some time away from your out in left field comment clearly directed at me. People that come to this forum want real answers. They want the truth.

I find it strange that you didn't follow my response post about you just being cruel & mean & telling me to shut up. I merely changed my name for the post to be sarcastic, as i suspect that you have other names. But that's ok, I get it, you are out to promote Viibryd.

When I said I thought I was safe posting here, I never expected to hear from you again. I just do not understand why you keep following me! It's creepy & annoying. No one else has ever been offended when I shared by Stephen King like nightmares & Sleep paralysis in the many other posts that I've shared about my story. It's my story and all you've ever made me do is DEFEND myself, from when your very snarkily said that I was being hysterical about my experience. All I can do is share my experiences. You share yours and LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!

And I do report you anytime you throw insults my way. You are very cruel & as I told the admin, I even 2nd guessed my short time on Prozac after Viibryd & switched to Cymbalta.

The next time you run your mouth, you'll be out of here!

Peace to everyone else.

And LS is referring to my post #47 to someone else, where I very calmly talk about Viibryd. Was it the "Devils Drug" (taken from a previous poster!) that makes her say in her "hey this person is not nice & needs to shut up & stop spewing hatred...." Blah blah blah.

NO ONE here or anywhere deserves to be responded to, like you did in #48. The writing is on the wall. LS....just come clean or disappear or change your name.....to end this drama you keep continuing.....are you or are you not a drug rep.

Whose Theresa, theoldman, & Monty (are you real?)

Peeps....this has been going on now for 2 yrs. w/ her.

I can understand why Forest drug reps have been scrambling. It's a ?'able drug & many want to sue. And that's just from prev. convo's on this site. Oops....there I go talking logic again! Lol

Just read your post alot of us have bad side effects tot his med. It does not mean it is a bad med folks it just means that it may not be the right one for you. I have tried almost all of the old ones I use blessedt o find a PA in CA that found the right one for me. and guess what i had side effects with them tooo, i just worked with her and we adjusted them to the right mg and was doing great on them. I will give viibrd the chance it deserves. but I knew the side effects and when it was time to increase with my other ones. stay strong and stay intouch with your pribsriber that is very important. Im sure the company that makes this med monitors this forum. That is a good things they are getting more informationm in a uncontrolled situation and that will help them in the long run so people stay to the subject it will help us all in the long run I agree if someone is being negative your body is not thes ame as mine so my side effects will be different then yours. Sorry for all typos im bad at it

Yes, I had a positive experience within 4 hours. So surprised! It helps spinal nerve pain. I can now stand up straight! I am on a pain pill, but it takes a while to work, and with Vybrid I can stand up straight. It does not eliminate the pain, but it seems to blunt it, so I am more comfortable. I still need to lay flat many times during the day or my calves start to tingle. I have had no GI upsets, except some unscented flatulence. My pain med can cause constipation, and this may be why I have had no major GI problems. I have an S1 nerve impingement. The neurosurgeon says it is not coming from the spine, but the tight piriformis, from a gait dysfunction, from a degenerating hip. The hips surgeons, say no, its coming from your spine. Working with a neurophysiologist now.

sometimes if your antidepressants doesn't feel like its working and giving you anxiety etc sometimes taking a low dose of a benzo with help you get to a stable dose and give a better onset experience where you wanna quit before letting it work. more for people who's anxiety was a huge factor and symptom of there depression. some people or doctors would prob dismiss the idea but thats what xanax was made for. 4 week use. even though 99% of the people take it for years or even life. used the right way and your doctor should obv no if you show addict tendencies. but xanax can be useful in helping with the anxiety of starting an antidepressant.

I had fantastic results on viibryd. I was on Zoloft for years and finally told my dr that my sex life with my husband was very important and I had to stop the zoloft. After about 3 months, I couldn't focus on anything. She started me on a trial pack of Viibryd. I felt amazing, back to myself again, was so energized, getting great nights of sleep, interested in sex again, lost 6 pounds in a month and a half and was extremely productive at work, and I think it even helped with my migraines! But my insurance denied it and i've had to wean myself off of it and I'm back to square one with a different medication that is not effective at all! Extremely frustrating.
