Viibryd And Insomnia

I have been on Viibryd (40 mg) for 6 months and for the last three weeks I have not slept more than one or two hours per night. I do not drink or smoke. My doctor started me off on 15 mg's of melatonin, when that did not work she prescribed Ambien. The Ambien has not worked. I have tried taking Zzzquil, Tylenol PM's and even Benedryl, but nothing at all works. I am frustrated all the time because I can not sleep. I have noticed that the medication is not working anymore, but I expected that the third night that I was not able to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions?

That is very unusual, because medications in this class usually cause somnolence and drowsiness.

What other antidepressants have you tried?

My suggestion would be to talk to your doctor again and explore you other options, as this doesn't seem to be the right medication choice for you.

I have been prescribed Zoloft, Abilify, Paxil, Celexa, Effexor, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Seroquil and Wellbutrin.

The first seven made me suicidal and Wellbutrin also gave me severe insomnia and I was hospitalized because of dehydration from the diarrhea and vomiting it caused me. It does not seem like I can find an antidepressant.

I have been on Viibryd almost a year and my doctor recently changed my Rx. The side effects are crazy. Yes, this could be the cause to your insomnia, yes this causes brain "zaps/glitches" that are very scary. The sweating would be so bad I would sweat right through my clothes.
The thing is, at first, I loved it! I was feeling like a new person! My anxiety was gone and my anger really kind of disappeared. The side effects of this drug are almost hidden, or in my case they were, for a long time. Good luck!

Actually, this kind of medication can cause intense and intolerable anxiety, teeth clenching, headaches, suicidal ideas...any number of things that can disrupt your sleep. The fact that you have only been experiencing this since you started the Viibryd is very important. If you have not changed anything else you should talk to your doctor ASAP! Some SSRIs do cause drowsiness like Paxil. I had heard that Viibryd may reduce anxiety. But my doc said that most people don't make it to the full dose. Because I am on other constipating meds I am probably not that affected, but I am feeling wired, upset with everyone and everything. No one can do anything right. And last night was my first truly awful pair of nightmares. I never have nightmares!KHWYC
