Viibryd Sexual Side Effects
UpdatedHi everyone, I stumbled upon this site just doing a random google search. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with any advice or experience. I was only on the drug for about 2.5- 3 weeks tops. Once I went up to 40 mg I became horribly depressed and stopped taking it cold turkey.
What concerns me is the lingering side effects. The Viibryd made me very angry/irritable, and that lasted for a while after I stopped taking it, but the sexual side effects are still there. Not as bad as they were while taking the drug, but it's been 5 WEEKS, and I still have a much decreased libido and some impotence.... How can it still be affecting me 5 weeks after? Honestly I'm pretty worried.
Any thoughts would be welcome.

That isn't unusual, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for a medication to completely clear out of your body and stop causing issues.
In addition, though it isn't common, some of these sexual side effects never go away and a small percentage of people have continued to have problems with them for the rest of their lives.
Have you talked to your doctor to make sure it has all been caused by the medication and that there are no other issues contributing?
Hey I really appreciate your response.
I did talk to me Doctor. She seemed surprised that it was still affecting me, assured me that "bio-chemically it is impossible for this to last" and told me to go ahead and start a small dose of Ativan. I wanted to wait and see how I felt with no medicine prior to starting the Ativan, but she told me to start at a very small dosage. I get the feeling she thinks it's in my head, and this will relax me enough... or something. That is most definitely not the case.
Viibryd was supposed to cause fewer sexual side effects than the other SSRI's. The pharm company that made it marketed it that way. The data from clinical trials is often manipulated and misleading. In the real world, the stuff causes sexual dysfunction. I've taken lexapro which has caused some problems. However, there are some drugs that help counteract the side effects- specifically- Wellbutrin (an antidepressant) sometimes Amantidine, occasionally Buspar (anti anxiety drug) I've experienced a degree of improvement with a Lexapro/Wellbutrin combination. Additionally, the Wellbutrin may boost the effectiveness of Lexapro. However, going off a prescription drug "cold turkey"- with no supervision is never a good idea.
I s your doc a psychiatrist? internist?
I believe she is a psychiatrist. Normally I wouldn't have quit it cold turkey, but I felt so awful on it. Suicidal thoughts and the like, which is not normal for me, so I just kind of freaked out and stopped.
The thing is, my OCD/anxiety level is still low, which along with the sexual side effects, leads to think it must still be in my system. I don't mind waiting, but the fact that she said it only takes 2 weeks, and it's been 5 for me, honestly scares the crap out of me. I just want to return to normal sexually, even if it involves more anxiety.
I've been taking Viibryd for approximately 4 months now, and initially I had the same negative response, including some all day crying breakdowns...I have continued to have sexual disfunction and low libido since I started taking SSRI's in November of last year, Viibryd is my 4th SSRI due to the other side effects of Zoloft, Celexa, and another one I can't remember. After 2.5 months on Viibryd along with taking Vit D supplements suggested by my doctor to counteract the lethargy, I feel NORMAL again, minus the sexual issues. The other side effects that are prominant are my extremely vivid dreams and bloat/slight weight gain (however Zoloft took the cake on that one literally) I think this SSRI takes longer to be effective, so most likely takes longer for the side effects to wear off....I'm really happy with it's effectiveness on my PPD and anxiety regardless of the side effects.
Been taking zyloric 100mg and my libido has been very embarassing. Before taking the drug, i could go for about 1 hr round one and 3 other good long sessions. Infact all lady partners refer to me as a sex machine. After taking zyloric, ive realised im only going 1 round. Raising for the 2nd round is such a problem that its now embarassing. Im off the drug since ive just seen somewhere like it takes over 24hrs to clear though i fear ive seen somewhere that this can be lonterm but i doubt this since ive used the drug previously. What i dont know is how long it will take to clear the side effects.
Started taking Viibryd a few months ago. Maybe 4. Initially coming off Lexapro and starting Viibryd was awful. Then after 2 weeks I felt amazing! Always had sexual side effects with antidepressants but that went away. Now, however, I feel flat and have NO libido and cannot have an orgasm. Increased to 30mg thinking it would help but it's only been a week or so. Feeling really down about it. Will talk to Doc about it at my next appt in a couple weeks.
I started taking Viibryd several weeks ago and it's like a miracle pill! I've tried Paxil. Then I tried a combo of Paxil and Wellbutrin to curb the sexual side effects. That had a modicum of success, but it took about 45 minutes to reach a small climax. Next I tried just Wellbutrin and I had red zone rage issues. Then my doctor lowered my Wellbutrin amount and put me on Lexapro. This worked for half a minute before I became a hermit and refused to leave my room for months...I ended up feeling like harming myself and that brought us to Viibryd.
Since starting Viibryd, I am happier, leaving not just my bedroom, but leaving my house and going to visit friends! My libido has skyrocketed and once I reach a climax, which is within five minutes, it is like one huge amazing feeling the whole way through! I even have more energy and have lost weight!
Everybody responds so differently to each medication. The best advice I can give is to not give up! You never know when you'll find the right one for you!
