Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Been on Vii for 8 months, and never had hunger or much side effects. Taking 30mg. With all SSRIs takes strongest possible discipline to control food intake. Must measure and count calories plus some exercise too. Really mandatory to avoid weight creep. People stop the important med because of weight creep. That is unfortunate. As for booze, one drink, two max, otherwise, you will have side effects and feel something is wrong with faculties and nerves, etc. Hope this helps.

I have been on Vii since May. Best SSRI by far for me. Was on Pax, Lex and a couple of others. I am on 30 mg. That is working fine. Only gripe is that maybe it makes me less active or interested in certain things, that is, maybe too calming and downing for someone like me that had to deal with GAD as my main issue, That is Gen Anx Disorder. I really had minimal sides at begining and now. As for sex, age 63 and not sure what affect it has in final analysis for my age, except less motivated to seek it. Lex was a certain climax killer and never got over how it stopped that. I rx this drug to all that are needing help with an SSRI.

i do not take wellbutrin--i do take 150mg. or seroquel at night (three hours before sleep), soon to be upped to 200mg. i was fine on the 10mg. and 20mg. of vybriid, but i did notice the first couple days of 40mg. i found myself a bit 'spacey feeling' which soon went away. i was switched from pristiq to vybriid recently as the pristiq was causing a slight but noticeable mania in the evening. now, i've been on 40mg. for over a month and it is fine...

So I have been on Viibryd since last may. 10 to 20 to 40mg then down to 30 then 20mg. Have a life changing event in January and my anxiety was out of control for 6 weeks. Lost way too much weight too. My dr. Added Wellbutrin to my vi. After 8 days I hated the way I felt on the Wellbutrin. Stopped taking it and just up my dose of vi back to 40 for the 3rd time. Now I feel really great. Wish I did this back in January so I wasn't sick with anxiety for so long. Took 10 months of adjusting my dose and now I am doing very very well :)

Well life is one grand experiment and if you find the right drug it can make all the difference. If you read the posts here you can see that most either love it or hate it. I had a couple of great days and then it was like being on rollercoaster. Glad you did not start at 40! Many people never get there and the GI problems are legendary! Being depressed is just tough to manage. I wish that my body did not get used to each drug so fast. I have run out of drugs to try.

I hope that it goes without saying that we should not be giving medical advice...just referring others back to their doctors. I would imagine that we all signed something that said that we would not let this list take the place of our own doctors. They take a huge responsibility when they get out their prescription pad. Often patients are more current on research because the doctors are learning about medications from pharmaceutical reps and classes.
GI problems sometimes stop when dosage is reduced but some people have them throughout the course of treatment. Almost every antidepressant has a side effect that people put up with because they feel the benefits outweigh the problem. Until Viibryd it was sexual dysfunction. If you started to have GI effects when you started the medication, you may never get rid of them until you get off the drug. Some people are willing to do that. But the net is not a good place to get medical advice. Only 60% of the information regarding health topics is correct. Medical concerns are best dealt with between you and your doctor. The GI effects of viibryd are hotorious and that is why many people never get to the full dose. I would imagine that if you called your doctor you would have been told that.

I don't know where the fire is to get people up to 40 mg of Viibryd. My shrink seems to find that most people can't take that much. Most of his patients can take 20-30 mg a day. Unfortunately my system was pretty wacked by it.
Don't forget that a big factor in drug sales is the ads. Now people go into their doctors and name what they want. Having watched patients go through a multiude of side effects because they were so desperate for improvement was painful to watch. I was waiting for Cymbalta. What a disappointment! The drug companies have the deepest pockets so they run the world. Drug company reps are compensated depending on the number of doctors in their assigned areas which are obtained from pharmacy sales. We didn't have a chance.

My hair is coming out all over but you can really tell upfront. My ponytail is half the size that it used to be.

Still taking Viibryd with great results...but just figured something out! Yay!

I just figured out something I think. I have had brusing problems in the last couple of weeks. One of my arms looked like I had gotten beat up...lol..Course just playing with my dog. Anyway I heard a commercial on another medication about taking aspirin and could cause more bleeding or bruising! Whalllaaaa....Now I know what the easy bruising is for. I had forgotten that brusing if taking aspirin was one of the side effects. I have been taking bc's quite a bit the last couple of weeks. I haven't had one in a couple of days and my bruises are going away....So glad (or I guess anway) to know that's what it was. I have noticed it before when taking bc's.....just never figured the connection.

I've taken Zoloft (didn't work), Prozac (stopped working), Effexor (weight loss), Wellbutrin (spontaneous rage), Paxil (serious weight gain), Pristiq (stopped working) and now Viibryd. Initially 20mg worked to pull me out of an acute clinical depression (I have a 20 yr history with depression). But after 3 months, started to feel symptoms again.

Dr increased dosage to 40mg. I just realized within the last couple of weeks that I feel normal again -- experiencing joy, excitement, handling stress and work much better!

So what's the issue? Well, I found this chat room by googling Viibryd & hair loss. I started to notice about a month ago that I was losing hair by the root...a lot of it. I starting thinking about what changed in the last couple months and all I could think of was the increased dosage of Viibryd. I now have 2 bald spots on each side of my head and my bangs are so thin you can see through to my scalp. Not very happy about it. I started using Rogaine, but it clearly states that if hair loss is due to medication, etc, it won't work.

But I feel so much better. So the question is...do you sacrifice your quality of life for alopecia?!? I have a Dr's appt coming up in 2 weeks. I'm going to discuss the hair loss with him and see what he says. I remember he didn't know alot about Viibryd when he prescribed it, but that I had been on so many others that he thought it would be worth a try. He's pretty conservative about medications, so I feel I can trust him in his assessment. I'll let you all know what I find out in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I hope you are all getting the treatment you need and your lives continue to improve!

actually, to my great surprise my Dr. said that it was the combination of Wellbutrin (which i have been on forever) and the new Vibryd which was causing my symptoms. I found that hard to believe. He upped my dosage of vibryd to 30mgs and took be off the wellbutrin cold turkey. I thought it was a crazy move. But it seems to be working. My memory is sharper, my depression is better (for now) but I am just as tired and lazy as before. Perhaps a little more motivated to DO more during the day and with less isolation. I'm supposed to give it a week and call him back. But I think it is working. (and yes, i did forget!) wise guy.

@tracy--since vyvanse is dextroamphetamine (with amino acid l-lysine added), i don't see how you could be viewed as "that patient" for requesting adderal... does this make any sense??

Sorry, folks, that I haven't been posting lately. Major surgery one week ago today, and everything went much more smoothly than it had when I used an MAOI. So the primary motivation for switching to Viibryd was a success (Yay!). About one week before the surgery, was feeling some improvement in affect, especially in the afternoons, but still lots of low times. My Dr's response to that info was to increase my dosage from 20 to 30 mg/day. It seems to be working, and better than any med from the long list and long period preceding. It's been 8 weeks since 1st dose. I'll know more when pain meds are far behind and December, January and February wait outside my front door. I have hope for a better life, especially for letting my natural life runs its course instead of insisting that I withdraw from it. Another encouragement is reading the valiant struggles so many of you are making to win against our Insidious Enemy Illness. Keep up the struggle, and keep posting!

Hi Theresa,

Thanks for asking. Yes, I am still on the Viibryd. I believe I am around Day 24'ish right now. Here's the thing though, I wanted to make sure my body was totally used to the 10mg before going up so I have only been on the 20mg for three days now. So, I guess I did three weeks at 10mg. I can tell that it is working but I'm not out of the woods yet. The despair is gone but my motivation to do stuff isn't really back yet. I'm just kind of "okay" I guess. I hope this helps :). Keep on truckin'. We can do this!

I had problems with the 10, twenty and now forty mg. dose of vibriibryd. I was on 100.mg of wellbutrin and low dose lexapro, but I was tired all of the time so my doctor switched me to this. I had the vivid dreaming right away, but he said it could be an interaction with the wellbutrin. (Lexapro removed at beginning) And that I should go to the 40 mg. for maximum effect. My dreaming is out of control. I do not feel any better with the depression, with the notation that I am getting depressed more because of the reaction to the viibryd. I'm afraid to go to sleep. Not scary nightmares, just vivid dreaming that you remember every detail, and the dreams repeat. Head drenched in sweat every night, hot all day, overeating, b****y, itchy, swoolen right eye, feeling like I want to self-medicate, and sloth. In comparision to this, I think I was doing fine on the Wellbutrin and Lexapro. this was supposed to give you more energy. My nights are hellish. I have tried everything, and now I don't feel I have any new drug to try. I just know I can't stay on this one. Never had psychological and physical side-effects like this before. I have a call into the doctor, but I feel like he is making excuses to keep me on it. It's been months of the nightmares, even with the beginning term mg. dose and now that I am on 40 mg. I can't stand it anymore. I am exhausted from sleeping if that makes any sense. He is going to call me at one o'clock. I am pouring sugar down my throat as well. (not literally, but.........) I never complain about anything by the way. I heard the withdrawls from this med are bad? Anybody know? I am so glad I gogled Vibriiyad and vivid dreaming because I thought I was losing my damn mind. Have been on 40 mg. of Vibriiyad for one month with no other meds.

READERS: I urge you to share here your success/failure stories of finding good doctors so that Theresa can be encouraged. As for my part, read on:
Oh, dear, dear Theresa! My heart goes out to you. I can remember being in that place, and am so very glad that I will never have to go back to it. All I can give you is general stuff that you probably already know completely. But maybe our conversation will bring some fresh insight, and more important, hope.
First, while you're looking for the doctor with whom you connect, don't be shy about leaning on whatever support network you have in place. Are you familiar with NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill)? They're online. There are also, I'm sure you're aware, several toll free hotlines we can use. Some responders are excellent. Some not so much. I've hung up and called back just to get someone I felt more comfortable with.
Second, talk to people like us in your area. You'll get a feel for which doctors they really like.
Third, unless you find yourself in the office of a real jerk (and they're out there. I could tell you stories . . . ) give each one some time. If you meet a jerk, don't go back. A year sounds awfully long up front, but by the time you've tried a medication and it has failed, and then another, etc., a year will have passed, and by then you'll know how much support your doctor gives you. There's a group of psychiatrists within half an hour of where I live. I drive an hour and a half to get to my doctor. The difference in quality makes the extra time and money worth it.
I agree with you: rapid changing, hopping from one med or doctor without giving due time for results works against us. You've heard, "Patience is a virtue," but we know that when we feel terrible, patience is a MONUMENTAL TASK. But that's what we have to have to survive this illness. Grab hold and hang on!!

I ended up taking klonapin and eating after reading another thread about nightmares and vii. I finally fell asleep around 2 and slept great. I can't see my Dr until I call on Monday so I guess we shall see how sleep goes this weekend. I have felt pretty good on viibryd. I too have tried many drugs in all areas of ADs. I'm not as severe as many but recognize my brain will always need some balancing drug. Most meds have worked but only for a year at most. Thank goodness they are always trying to improve meds but it gets very expensive to try out the newer ones.
