Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
Thanks IS.....
I will keep you all posted :)
Megan, I have read on other forums that people have had hair loss, yours sounds much worse though. Hope things get better!
I have posted my experience so far with Viibryd and rapid hair loss being at 40mg for over one month.
I have had blood work, and there is no other explaination for this rapid hair loss.
I filed an adverse event to the manufacturer and also to the FDA. I encourage anyone who is experiencing hair loss from this drug to do so as well, as it is currrently not listed as a side effect.
This medicine uses a mechanism simular to Buspar, which when looked up, I found hair loss as a side effct of that.
That is great Chuck!! Happy for you!! I am really happy to have found this med too! Course Well, Viibryd, and Xanax....wish I didn't have to take all that, but I have been waiting for years to be able to drive without being so paniced!! Going to have to start practicing on the HW. I know it won't be an immediate miracle, but I feel that I can actually think about it now without getting sick feeling...lol...!!
Dani, the Klon. should help alot! Keep us updated!!
Megan, hope everything works out! It would be awful to have to stop taking a med that works so well. I know I get on this topic alot on here. But, have you had your thyroid checked? You can read my other posts about it. There are soooo many people these days that are having problems without ever knowing that it could very well be their thyroid. (And normal results don't actually mean normal.) See Stop the Thyroid Madness for more info.
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Greetings!
I have been on Viibryd nowfor over 2 months, on the 40 max for over 1 month. In the last few weeks my hair started to fall out. I thought at 1st I was just losing normal amounts, until I was blow drying my hair upside down and found a PILE of hair on my bathrooom floor disconnected from the root. I cant figure out if its from the med, as I am on nothing else except Xanax, and have never had this reaction from any SSRI. I performed a conditioning treatment and it stopped for now, but if the hair loss continues, Im gonna have to say bye to this med. Its a shame if it is the med, as it is working very well for me.
Say the doc today and we both agreed to stay on V and if the anger and agitation gets worse then I have to cone off it and we will try Lamictal. She also gave me a prescription for Klonopin but I think that was more because I was in a car accident was shaking for 4 hrs straight and on and off for the rest of the day. Figures I start being less anxious about driving and I get hit. Trying to keep spirits up but knowing the stress and aggravation I am headed for along with the back pain makes for one very unhappy camper.
Better than in eight months! Doc finally got me a cocktail that is working. How about you?
Hey Chuck,
Haven't seen you in a while. You doing good?
Hey Dani. The stomach problems get better with time. I felt a little dizzy when I went from 20Mg to 40Mg so I went back to 20Mg and it's working fine now. I also take Abilify. Hang in there.
Laura, forgot to answer the supplement question.
I take,
Fish Oil, B12 Complex, was taking Lipotropics, but haven't ordered so I got some Milk Thistle til I order again, Iron (stomach friendly), Complete multi-vitamin, D3 but I am out, Colon Cleanser.
Was taking the lipo shots, but decided to do lipotropic pills and B12 complex instead. Need to order...lol
Course I have the Well., Vii, Xanax, and Armour Thyroid, and Blood pressure med (Diazide).
I feel like I am forgetting something...lol
Posting here as suggested. I am 29 and have been dealing with depression since I was 15. I have been on everything with little help. When I was 15 Prozac worked but in my early 20's when I went back on it it didn't work. I hate taking meds and go on and off them depending on how bad symptoms are. I was recently diagnosed with MDD and GAD and was out of work for 8 weeks and had to go back before I found a good Pdoc and meds. The Pdoc I had found dropped me mid crisis. I found a new Pdoc who gave me Viibryd...I am on day 8 and have good days and bad. I had some stomach issues the first 2 days but noticed if I took it with something higher in fat I didn't have symptoms. I also have IBS and it seems to have regulated that. The past 2 days I have been very agitated and angry. I also noticed my sleep cycle has changed and I can't sleep past 6:30 am no matter what time I go to bed. I have has slight headaches and am hoping they will go away. Today I noticed I was very off balance and got dizzy and would see black spots when I would stand up. I actually walked into the wall this morning when I woke up. I took my first 20mg tonight and 30 minutes later the room was spinning and I felt off. I have dealt with vertigo before and this was not the same it was different but I can't explain how. I haven't noticed any cravings or increase in appetite I've actually noticed a decrease in my appetite. I really hope the dizziness, headaches and feeling off goes away. I felt really good last week and then things seemed to go down hill. I'm just concerned with the headaches because I randomly pass out or go unresponsive and the only thing the can come up with are non epileptic seizures caused by migraines. I really don't want to start leaving work by ambulance again. I've read symptoms resolve as you take it but mine seem to be getting worse. Especially the anger and agitation.
Good to hear from everyone!!
Cravings....YES
Dreams....YES...very vivid, but not like when on sleep med...couldn't do those.
Laura, like I said had to go back on W. I am feeling pretty good most days...there are some days...not so much...but am happy to find Something that is working!...lol.. You doing ok from all the weather now? Everything in tact where you are?
pcake...that is exactly like I used to feel. Seems most of the side effects go away after time. As long as you are feeling better is what counts
Happy Hump Day!!!
It takes about 6 months for hair loss from topomax to completely come back. And for your hair to start acting normal again. So it might not be your new med.
I started Viibryd today myself instaed of Lexapro. So we will all see togather
Started Viibryd a little over a week ago. At times, I am feeling a little bit spaced out. Also, can't sleep too well. I am hoping this medication works as I have been on a lot of depression meds. I can definately feel the different with the 20mg of Viibryd. I am not sure if it is too much.
WOW! It's been a heckuv'a few weeks around here. I live on the coast in NC, and we were slammed by Irene- no power, trees down, no internet...very post-apocalyptic around here. Not to mention the earthquake that I somehow totally missed (no one believes that I seriously didn't feel the ground shake).
I had been cutting my Wellbutrin in half in preparation for totally weaning off of it. At first, I felt better, but after about a week, I knew I needed to go back to the full dosage. Perhaps it was the onset of withdrawal, perhaps not, but I started to get that snowball heading down the mountain feeling. I'm back on the full 300mgs along with 40mgs of Viibryd. I agree, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Although I'd love to be on as little medication as possible, the important thing is maintaining a balance.
As far as side effects go, I haven't noticed any weight loss, but my darn hair is falling out in handfuls. I don't know why. I thought it was the generic topamax, but I've been off that for weeks now and it's still happening. I shed worse than my cats. I'm taking multivitamin supplements including "Hair, Skin, Nails" with extra iron, but I've noticed no change in the rate of shedding. What gives?! I'm shedding like a Christmas tree in July.
I'm also having some issues with blurred vision. I'm due for an eye exam, so I'll have them check the pressure in my eyes then. In the meantime, I'm missing my Netflix Foreign Movie queue as anything with subtitles is completely out. I can't even read the movie descriptions from a few feet away.
I'm also craving anything/everything with carbs...cookies, chips, chocolate. I mean "middle of the night cold sweat for an Oreo" kind of cravings. The best thing I've found is 100 calorie granola bars- they're filling, I can get a small chocolate fix, and I'm getting some fiber. Plus, they're cheap. Yeah for cheap! So Jen, not to worry you honey, but you're not the only one sweating the cravings thing...the last thing in the world I need is to gain any weight. I'm fairly sure the earthquake last week was just me getting out of bed!
Overall, my mood is okay. I'm sleeping better, but I'm having quite a time with strange, vivid nightmares. I do wake rested however, so I can't complain too much.
Chuck, I'm sorry to hear about the bout of anxiety, but I'm glad the combination of V and Abilify is working for you now. I've thought about adding Abilify and going off the Wellbutrin since the W does increase my anxiety levels, but the last time I was on Abilify, I had some fairly serious side effects (although I was taking it with Lamectil). Perhaps Abilify with Viibryd will work better. If this hair loss doesn't slow down, I'll have to try something different, else I'm going to be completely bald.
BBC- I haven't noticed any increased bleeding issues while on Viibryd, but I can see where it could very well be responsible for it. I certainly had a few GI issues during the first few weeks. If you have ulcers, IBS, etc., it's likely you'll see a flair in symptoms initially. As tough as it is, if you can hang in there, I think it's worth it to see if the GI issues pass. It's such a tough call- I guess in the end, it's about which thing negatively impacts your quality of life to a greater degree. Whatever you do, I hope you get some relief. GI stuff is the pits!
Rob- Welcome and good luck! I'm glad to hear you're seeing some improvement already. Please keep us updated.
CagedTiger- These hot flashes are no joke. My hands are warm right now....WARM! No zombie hands. Of course, I could do without the sweating...I'm glowing like a pig! I hope you got that dosage thing straight. Absolutely, you should be on 40mgs, not 20mgs. When Viibry was originally released, the max dosage was 20mgs (5mgs, 10mgs, then 20mgs in the sample pack). They changed that, and I can see why. There's no way 20 would cut it. If the doctor has made a mistake, insist that they not charge you for a second prescription. The pharmacy should be willing to just modify your existing prescription. Good luck hon!
Red- Welcome and a very happy Labor Day to you, too! I'm anxious to hear about your observations and progress, please post anything and everything. I'm dying to know if anyone else is having hair loss issues...this is really driving me nuts!
ls- Congrats on the huge strides! I know what you mean about being an anxious driver, and it SO impacts your quality of life- there's nothing worse than knowing you have to go somewhere, and obsessing about it for hours beforehand. It sounds like things are plugging right along in the right direction, and I couldn't be happier to hear some good news! Keep us updated. Also, do you take any supplements and if so, what do you take?
Happy Labor Day to everyone! Take care of yourselves!
Jen, in all the studies, most people don't gain weight with the V. Of course there are always exceptions. But haven't read that problem in other places I have been talking to people. Hope all works out for you!! It is always hard after having babies...lol..I nursed all mine, and the weight came off quickly. It is really hard for me to lose weight, so I can imagine what you are going through!!
Red, I have heard a lot on another fm of the electric shock feelings. Glad you are feeling better!!! Everyone one is different!!. I just hope my good continues on with this med. I sure don't won't to go backwards...lol.. I am very thankful as well,...the Lord, job, family...ect...INSURANCE...lol.. Also, there are so many with much worse problems, I am just thankful that mine are so minimal comparaitvely. When reading on all these places about these meds, it hurts my soul what some of them are going through!!
Everyone have a great Labor day!! I am taking my dog to the park...Yea!! it isn't raining today!!!!
The doc said I could stop the Vii immediately as I was very concerned about the "electric shocks" I was having. I had been off the WB for about 6 weeks.
So, in my humble non-doctoral opinion, I confused my brain moreso than it already is. Hence the lightheadedness and dizziness.
The weight loss was almost immediate when I went back on WB. Could have been in my subconscience as well....knowing that WB is good for weight loss and Vii isn't.
Such a catch 22 for many of us. We want to feel better one day at a time....but it takes weeks, months, sometimes years to get there. We see a doctor who spends maybe 30 minutes with us every month or two and expect them to have all the answers. Then we see a therapist who can fix the problems that the Pdoc can't.
In the end, I am grateful I have insurance, grateful to have a good (well, sometimes :) ) job. Am incredibly grateful to not have a husband watching over me and counting my meds. (*note sarcasm here)
Thrilled to be here at this website. I've learned alot already.
Happy Labor Day or as most of us say....yippie a day off with pay!
Be happy where you are on the way to where you are going!
HappyKaren
Is- That is so wonderful to hear! that a medication is actually helping someone. (Doesn't seem to happen much!) I know what you mean about being on too many psychotropics at once- it seems that less is more every time.
I really hope that the appetite increase doesn't last. This is really scaring me about the med. I am already huge from my pregnancy and the postpartum isn't helping decrease my weight or appetite. Why do these meds all cause weight gain? It's so frustrating...
Jen, after the first few days of 20mg and then went to 40mg. The only problems I had were kindof like floating on a cloud...weird feeling and dreams (which I still have). Some people have mentioned headaches, guess I had that too...but that is pretty normal, so I don't know if it was from the Viibryd. I actually started noticing a change very quickly. But when I started being able to drive better, that was the best thing!! I also take Wellbutrin, and Xanax for aniety. I tried to go off the Wellbutrin, but I felt like my heart was pounding out of my chest every morning. Was hoping that going off the W. would even make the V work better. I have gone off W many times, just cause I really would rather not take medicine...never had any withdrawals from it, just upset and mean a couple of weeks after going off it....lol.. Soon as I took my W last Saturday, I felt soooo much better. Kind of hate being on 2 antidepressants, but since it works, guess I will keep them both. I really feel great. Been on 40mg for over a month now. Hoping to become normal one day...lol... But I am working on it!!
HappyRedHead, did you stay on your W while taking the V? The W is known to help with cravings and weight gain. Just wondering, maybe both would help you too....
