Viibryd Reviews (Page 43) (Top voted first)
UpdatedGoing to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
Are you taking any other meds? Afew years ago the same thing happened to me. It ended up being caused from the Lexapro I was combined with an over the counter nasal decongestant.
Barbie--may i ask how the wellbutrin made you feel?? I have never been on anything other than pristiq (which i've stopped) and seroquel (just upped from 150 to 200 mg.) and, now, for a few months, viibryd--10, 20, 40 and now steady on 40--which seems to be okay. This is the extent of my experience with antidepressants, which i was absolutely against until i felt i'd try ANYTHING that might help. Anyone else have a similar experience??
I would say that when another second anti depressant is joined along with the first one, there can be some extra tricky symptoms that drs are not even able to fully evaluate. Normally, drugs are not tested very much with other drug interactions. It can be trial and error. It is usually much better to let one drug do its max best before jumping to a second one to take. Joe
Is--i've been on viibryd for several months--a replacement for pristiq which i found kind of made me manic in the evening for some reason. I have stabilized on 40mg of viibryd, and the only adverse reaction i've had was i felt kind of 'spacey' for the first couple of days on the 40mg, as they build you up from 10mg. Sometimes, i will feel just a bit off, but the viibryd and seroquel seem to be okay. What is your antidepressant history to date??
Hi Raven,
The only other drug I have taken is Lexapro....which I hated...I was taking it with Wellbutrin and I just got to the point that I had no feelings at all. (Sometimes that might seem great...!! But not all the time..lol!)
I am still taking Wellbutrin and 40 mg Vibryd and of course xanyx, .5 up to 3 times a day. I haven't tried to come off the Wellbutrin since the beginning. All my doc can say is try and see...lol...I hate to mess up a good thing.
Ha and I have taken part of a seroquel someome gave me to sleep....glad it was only a little of it....sleep I did!
Oh and have been able to go back on low carb, which is the only diet that half works for me and my thyroid....at least I am not gaining right now.... :)
Glad that the Viibryd is working for you!!!
Raven the Wellbutrin made me feed really spacey and not able to concentrate. I took zyban years ago to quit smoking and was on it for 6 days and just gave up because of the concentration issues. When my dr. told me to add wellbutrin to the 20mg of Viibryd , I told her of my prior negative experience and she said to try it anyway. Not good for me. I decided to just not take the wellbutrin and try to take the full 40mg of Viibryd. Before Viibryd dr put me on Effexor. Took one pill in at 8am and by 4pm felt very ill and disorientated. By 6pm was vomiting so I never took any more of those either. The Viibryd makes me feel normal and confident with no anxiety which is my real problem.
ls--the problem is that you took a PIECE of the seroquel. most folks are put on the XR (extended release) and if you break one it will hit you all at once, instead of spread across the 24 hours, which is what its meant to do. my husband took a piece of one by mistake once (he's not on antidepressants) and he slept for like 12 hours, lol.
lolol!! me too!!
I second your message. I find that being on Viibryd was like having a tiger by the tail. I watched myself be angry and could not wait to get off and get it out of my system. It really took me for a ride from which I have not been able to recover. I honestly did not have any cravings...and that is weak spot for me. But I was totally different...I had a few days of feeling good but as I increased the dose it was a nightmare...and it was as if I was observing myself do things that were not characteristic of me. I think I get a sense of what a manic phase must be like. I felt fabulous and then hit the floor with a resounding thud. You are not alone.
It is estimated by NIMH that two thirds of people have difficulty in getting complete relief from their depression using anti depressants. I don't know where you get your numbers, Joe, but I would appreciate a citation. There are some people who find it very difficult to find the right medication. Some have emotional depression and pain to deal with. I have taken every antidepressant on the market. Some just have a harder time than others finding the right combination, if it even exists. I am a retired clinical psychologist and have worked at a Medical School. I think that you are making a real error that puts the blame on the doctor incorrectly. Most doctors that I know do this out of a desire to help someone because there is not enough money in the world to get them to do it otherwise. It is tough work. There are only so many anti depressants and they each work slightly differently. After years of work people really thought Viibryd was the answer, but it has turned into a horror story for many of us. Please stop rejecting out reality which is certainly as valid as yours.
I just had my 3rd child 5 mths ago. I have a 11 y.o and a 2 y.o and 5mth old. With my 3 rd child it has been the worst. Very anxious, it appears depressed also. After visiting my physician for the 1 st time he thought viibryd would work for me. (I took Celexa about 10 yrs ago for a short period of time. ) he started me on 40mg right off the bat. I took my 1st dose yesterday, made me have GI issues. After reading some posts I am thinking of cutting them in 1/2. I had no idea that GAD was a dx. I am all the symptoms. LOL! Are any of you still on viibryd? I have read many positive posts on this site. Yet on webmd there were a lot of negative posts which increased my anxiety about taking viibryd at all. :(
Unfortunately your doctor does not seem to understand how starting someone on an anti depressant works. Usually reps give them starter pack and you start with 5 mg, increasing the dose by 5 every 4 days. My shrink says that most people have to stop at 20. It is very powerful and many people cannot handle the full dose. I wish you luck. When Viibryd works, people love it. I had a tough time on it. Hope it works for you.
I think he forgot to send me hone with the starter pack. Thank goodness I have been an MA for 10 yrs to know enough not to take the 40mg today and call the office. Very frustrating. I do not like to take pills to begin with and have had major anxiety about taking the viibyd
Yes the gi problems can be very bad. I still have some after 11 months on VI. Much better now than during the first 6 months. Joe's advice (who is on here all the time) was to see a gastroenterologist for it cause it could not be from the VI. Of course I thought that was dumb advice and it is definitely from the VI. Only bad now on rate occasions but many months to get to that point. Viibryd is a great drug for uncontrollable anxiety.
GI problems are a clear side effect. Perhaps you should ask your prescribing doctor about further tests, not take recommendations from non professionals. I think it doesn't hurt to write the company that makes Viibryd, They may not seem responsive but they are legally required to keep records of patient communicatioin regarding side effects. You could also write NIMH (National Instittue of Mental Health). I tend to blanket them. Our doctors are supposed to be reporting this, but they don't always report the normal and expected side effects. They just report the oddball ones, like rashes. It was refreshing to have working bowels after years of other antidepressants. Most SSRIs and SNRIs can give you bowel issues, usually constipation. Also tooth grinding, headaches, insomnia. Sometimes they reformulate drugs. They did that to Oxycontin so it could not be crushed and inhaled. I thank that made a definite change in the bioavailability. I had to increase my dosage after the chnage.
Hearing how well you all are doing I am jealous, but it just did not work for me.
beth--yes, much of what you say is true, however, you left out the part about the pharmaceutical industry being the puppet masters over today's pysicians. that being said, to bob,i HAVE noticed constipation in the a.m. that has to be attributable to viibryd as i never got it on pristiq.
Sorry to hear that level of extreme reaction. Your doctor needs to know, and you ought to file a report with the mgf. They all need to know.
The first 3 days of pills should be 1/2 the starter dose in the intro packet given out by the doctor. Most people are going to be on this drug for a long time, hence, start off slowly with lower doses and build up slowly too. In your case, it makes sense that some other drug be tried especially if your confidence is shattered. Best regards and good luck next time on replacement drug.
Its the devil! But if you can handle ALL (and you will have them)Side effects that can last for a month till your body gets used to it then your one tough cookie ;) I have been shot, stabbed and beat up to the point that I was black and blue for 5 weeks and would rather go through all of those things again at the same time then to go through those side effects again! But I do hope that you wont have any and also hope that this medication works for you for what ever reasons who have to take it!Good Luck and may God have mercy on your soul haha
I agree with everyone else who said. Viibryd is "evil" and "the devil ." I am doing everything in my power to tell everyone I know how horrible it is.
I was put on Viibryd (40 mg) after gaining weight and having ONE high blood pressure reading on Lexapro. As the months progressed, my symptoms of anxiety and depression actually worsened to the point where I was having episodes daily, and I was becoming increasingly suicidal. I had become completely detached from my friends, hobbies, family ... Even my home felt like someone else's house. Oh, and I was wide awake at 4 AM every day and found it physically impossible to stay awake 9-11 AM.
My "doctor" didn't know much about Viibryd and actually wanted to give me a higher dose! When I said I wanted to go off completely, she didn't tell me I should taper off so I quit cold turkey. I did NOT want that poison in my body another day. I immediately felt a thousand times better -- like stepping out into the sun! I was really dizzy for a few days though.
I realize the OP is two yrs old, but I want this out there for anyone doing research. DO NOT take Viibryd. There are plenty of tried-and-true meds to take instead. I don't think Viibryd is worth the risks.
