I am taking verapamil SR 240mg. A lot of drug plans only offer it as ER. What's the difference? ## There is no difference, they are both just abbreviations that denote it as being a time released formulation. ER= extended release SR= sustained release You may also see it denoted with the abbreviations: XR = extended release and CR = controlled release. However, as I said, they all mean the same thing. Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension, angina and other cardiovascular problems. Common side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Read more: Are there any questions or comments? ## There is a difference between verapamil ER and SR. One is taken once a day and the other is meant to be taken twice a day. 28 REPLIES UpdatedI have two tablets left in my prescription. Are there any over the counter meds for high blood pressure? ## All you need do is call your pharmacy for refill and they will contact your physician with a refill. Why would you risk anything else.. ## What is the difference between Verapamil SA and Verapamil ER? ## No, medications for treating high blood pressure require a doctor's prescription. While you can help lower your blood pressure via diet, and exercise, it is always best to take the medication your doctor has prescribed. Verapamil may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, and increased urination. Ref: Verapamil Information Lydia, SA stands for sustained action, and ER stands for extended release, both mean the same thing, though, as they just des...
3 REPLIES UpdatedDoes Actavis still make Verapamil / Calan in 40mg tablets? ## Actavis has been purchased by Teva Pharmaceuticals, and they produce a 40mg Verapamil with the WATSON logo over the number 404, which is round, and orange. Ref: Teva This likely means that the specific one that was manufactured by Actavis is no longer available. Generally, when one company purchases another, or merges with another, they stop producing the duplicate products, as it is not cost effective to keep manufacturing all of them. What product does your pharmacy have available?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been taking the Blue oblong tab 180mg from Mylan, I think, for years with no problem (for chronic migraine relief). One time, some years ago, I received a brown tablet and took it back because it did not work and I got a terrible 3 day long migraine attack. I did some research and found out it was because of the dye in it making it brown. So my pharmacist got me the Blue ones and kept them in stock for me. I have moved and recently filled them via mail order pharmacy and they arrived yesterday....brown from Glenmark. Why do the brown ones make me sick and the blue ones work for me just fine? I will need to call the mail order pharmacy and see what I can do about sending these back and getting them filled at a local pharmacy in hopes of getting the blue ones. ## The best thing to ...
1 REPLY UpdatedI have Medicare and AARP to cover the cost of my Rx, but need help locating a pharmacy that carries the medication Verapamil made by "Caraco". I presently am taking Verapamil er 180 mg at night, mfg by Caraco and I have tried other brands/generics with too many side effects. ## Unfortunately, there is no directory of what pharmacy carries a product from any given manufacturer that anyone can refer to for you. However, if you can post back with your general location, someone might be able to recommend a pharmacy in your area. As to any other options, the only thing you can really do is ask at your various local pharmacies, if they don't have it in stock, one might be able to order it in for you. Verapamil is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac...

This is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections, so it depends on the specific details of your gum disease. 15 REPLIES UpdatedPlease tell me what verapamil er is used for and the side effects of using this drug? I entered the name of the medicine. What is the wrong word that i used? ## Hello, Citygirl! Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dry cough and hypotension. As to the word, it's entering the letters that you see in the little box, it's used to prevent spam on the site. All you need to do is enter exactly what you see in there and your post will submit. 2 REPLIES UpdatedI have recently been diagnosed with Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania i am currently taking both difen and verapamil. Does anybody know whether certain foods can trigger these headaches? ## No, research hasn't shown any specific causes or triggers associated with these headaches. Some people who get migraines, sometimes have certain food triggers, but this has never been shown with these. My suggestion would be to just pay attention to what you eat and drink and see for yourself if something triggers them. Such triggers are usually unique to the person, anyway. Where I get headaches from beer, you may not and while chocolate doesn't bother me, it may trigger them in you. CPH is usually treated with the NSAIDs, like the Dicolfenac in the Difen and the calcium channel blockers, Verapa...
4 REPLIES UpdatedPharmacy has changed my RX from a capsule to tablet (with approval from Dr.) Dosage is the same 240 and both are XR. Pharmacy says they can't get capsules any more, only tablets. Since the change-over (about 2 -3 months ago) my blood pressure has been inching back up and now soldily back in the "high blood pressure" readings. Doctor has temporarily increased my dosage of lisinopril (I take both) but wants my primary care to do a complete work up. Has anyone else had problems with tablet form not working? (Capsule worked for at least 2 years or more the change is only since switch to tablet.) My symptoms with uncontrolled high blood pressure include severe headaches and double vision. It is my top number (systolic?) that is increasing from 80s range to avg 150 and up. (I am f...
23 REPLIES Updateddrug ## Is aprovil a good drug for controlling high blood pressure? If so, how does compare too verapamil ## Aprovel contains the active ingredient Irbesartan, which is used to treat high blood pressure, stroke, and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, stomach, pain, and hypotension. Verapamil is a different medication, but it is used to treat similar medical conditions. Overall, it really depends on what works best for the patient in question. How is this medication working for you?
2 REPLIES UpdatedI started out on 40mgs Verapamil SA for High Blood Pressure and PSVT...It was not enough, increased to 120mgs ER once pr day...That worked longer.. But had to go up to Verapamil 240mgs. That was the magic dose...Did really well on that dose. Awhile back, I noted my PSVT seemed to be acting up more often and my BP raised up.....I just noticed on my Rx bottle that the V.A. Pharmacy started sending me the right dose. But, it was Verapamil 240mg SA (Instead of my usual 240mgs ER.)...Dr. didn't order the change. But, I have noticed I don't do as well on one 240mg SA as I do on the 240mgs ER.....(Beginning to wonder is SA is "short Acting?)....Again Dr. didn't order the change....Obviously, the ER is better for me. ## No, the SA actually stands for sustained action, so both it...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI take one Verapamil SR 240 mg tablet per day. I've been taking it at lunchtime (at approx. 12-12:30) with food. Is this the best time of day to take it? I also take other prescribed meds: 2 Metformin, 1 Losartan, 1 Xarelto and 1 Lovastatin. Presently, I take Losartan in the early a.m.; Xarelto at 6:30p.m.; Metformin in the a.m. and p.m.; and Lovastatin at bedtime. I was taken off of Atenolol because of my low pulse. My main concern is the time of day to take the above meds because I do better on a schedule. ## It really depends on what works best for you, unless your doctors gives some reason that you should take them at others times. The FDA warns that you may experience side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, stomach pain, flatulence, and diarrhea....
2 REPLIES UpdatedI take 240 mg of verapamil in the morning and valsartan 160 mg (1 in AM and 1 in PM). I'm pretty sure I was distracted this morning and took 2 of one or the other - at 9am. At about 12:00 noon, I started feeling lightheaded and experienced lots of palpitations. What should I do? ## Hi Jan, Sorry to hear about your situation. I see that it's been a few days since the timing of your post... How have you been feeling lately? Did you find a way to get to the ER or urgent care while those symptoms persisted? Generally, in case of an overdose, poison control should be on your list of who to contact (at 1-800-222-1222) - They are available 24/7 for your convenience and can provide you with valuable information on what steps to take moving forward. Secondly, I think it's very import...
5 REPLIES UpdatedI've been on 120mg of verapamil for about 3 months. I take it for vestibular migraines. My neurologist doubled my dose to 240mg last week to see if it would help with persistent dizziness. I've had zero problems on the 120mg. I thought I was doing ok on the increased dose, but started running a low grade fever (99.5-100.9). I really have no other symptoms. The fever is persistent and will drop down for maybe an hour or two with anti-pyretics. Then it pops right back up. It's very weird, and I've never experienced anything like this before. I dropped my dose 3 days ago back to 120mg to see if the fever would break - no luck. It's been over a week now and I have developed a slightly productive cough in the last couple of days. I'm waiting to hear from my neurologis...

One is manufactured by Ivax/Teva and the other by Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Hi, my husband was taking the blue verapamil sa 240mg. UpdatedI have a verapamil pill blue with m411. I just got a new prescription. It's brown with G74 on it. Are they the right medicine? ## Yes, this tablet is manufactured by Glenmark Generics and they list it as containing 240mgs of Verapamil. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have taken verapamil hydrochloride 180/240 for the past 12 months. I had septacemia, infected endocarditis & leaking valve. Within six months bone pain became quite severe & shakes which did not allow holding a cup of tea etc. So I went onto Diltiazem! Everything seems OK but this medication does not seem to reduce blood pressure. In fact initially when I take it every morning it seems to take some time to kick in & I find this quite distressing. Any comments? ## It is normal for any medication to take awhile to start to work, after taking it, but it isn't lowering your blood pressure, it may not be the right medication for you. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. What dosage are you ta...
1 REPLY Updatedi am taking isoptin sr 120 mg{verapamil} for bradycardia and hypertension, but sometimes my bp is still high, can i take 2.5 mg of enalapril together to control the bp or is it harming ## They can be taken together and are sometimes prescribed together, when someone's blood pressure is very high and their doctor needs to bring it down fast. However, only your doctor can say if it is the right medication for you to try. How high is your blood pressure? Do you watch the fat and salt in your diet? As reported by the NIH, both can contribute to high blood pressure, in some people. The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
