y do i have a fever after taking sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs ## i have one kidney am now taking sulfameth/trimetthoprim 800/160 for bactrimin the blooder it makes me feel realy sick now i have a fever what should i do ## You are most likely sensitive to this medication, since it is a sulfa drug and are having a reaction to it. Does trimethoprim have gluten in it? ## Hi tammy, Most medications do not contain gluten, but in order to find out for sure, one would need to contact the manufacturer of that specific pill to obtain a list of its inactive ingredients. Do you perhaps have a pill imprint and description that you could provide? I may be able to look this up for you.

My daughter is 5 years old and has urinary reflux stage 3. She has been taking sulfameth-trimeth since she was 2 years old. She always has breakthrough infections. My question is what are the long term side effects of her taking the medication for so long and is it necessary? I'm afraid it might be causing more damage than good to her little body. ## To be completely honest, I'd also be concerned, Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim can cause some nasty problems in a lot of people that take it. i thought trimethorim was for water in fections, have been given for a throat infection, is this right ## It is an antibiotic and, as such, it is effective at treating several different types of infections, not just those of the urinary tract. i got trimethoprim for a uti but also have a sore throat so was wandering if it will also get rid of my bad throat? ## It may also help with that, if the sore throat has been caused by an infection, antibiotics really can't be directed to work selectively in the body. Can sulfameth trimetoprim 800/160 be used to treat a tooth infection ? ## What has our dentist advised you to use? Have they confirmed the presence of an infection? Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, but it is not usually the first choice for dental infections, since many of them respond better to other alternatives, such as Penicillin and Amoxicillin. ## No Dentist confirmation. Pretty sure of infection due to the pain & slight swelling of lower jaw near wisdom tooth.

I was recently treated for a yeast infection at the ER nd two weeks later I went for a follow up with my Dr , I was told I have a uti however I have bk symptoms. I was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 , I'm on day 5 nd I've noticed a white milky discharge. Is this normal???? ## "NO SYMPTOMS" ## A white, milky discharge would be more indicative of a yeast infection. You may have had one to begin with, been treated for it and got rid of it, then you may have gotten another one from the antibiotic for the UTI, it's almost a vicious cycle. Have you consulted your doctor again, yet?

My mother has an abscess tooth and there is not enough left to pull. She does not have insurance so she can not pay to get it cut out. She is prescribed an antibiotic but cannot afford it. I had an infection a few weeks ago and still have some of my antibiotics left and i need to know if she can take them for this. ## Having 'some' of your antibiotics isn't going to be enough to give her a full course and destroy the infection. (You should have finished all of them, when you were taking them, actually.) In addition, even a full course of antibiotics is not going to solve the problem, with a tooth in that shape, she will just keep getting recurring infections and letting a dental infection like that go untreated can be very dangerous. Will taking these antibiotics get rid of stds like chlamydia? ## Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim may do some good, but in general it is not specific for treating Chlamydial infections and I wouldn't recommend it as a first, second, or even third line option, compared to other prescription and natural choices out there. From what I could gather, Tetracycline, Doxycycline or Erythromycin are the usual antibiotics indicated for Chlamydia; Azithromycin or even Ofloxacin are also other options indicated for Chlamydia. Have you talked to your doctor about which medication would be best for "you"? ## Hey now..... I didn't say for me lol. That's about the same as I had gathered from reading online.

In this instance, topical (eye drops) would be a better choice to oral medications in my opinion. If however your pink eye is bacterial, then Sulfameth/tmp DS will work to treat the symptoms. You'd generally have to see your doctor though to test if it is caused by bacteria or not and make your decision based on his or her findings. I was prescribed the above medication for pink eye. I was wondering if I could use this for an ear infection that is caused by clogging of my ear canal. I have tried using the peroxide treatment to no avail. It is now beginning to hurt and swell. I have also taken some aspirin for the imflamation and was consider getting some over the counter nasal decongestant. ## Have you consulted a doctor? While antibiotics are used to treat infections, they aren't going to solve the origination of the problem, which is the clogging of your ear canal. If it didn't respond to peroxide, then your doctor is going to need to clean the ear out for you to remove the obstruction.
