Tramadol To Treat Spondylolisthesis Pain
UpdatedWhat causes spondylolisthesis and what's the treatment for it? What is radiculopathy? Can I use Ibuprofen for pain rather than Tramadol to help preserve the liver?

It is a dislocation of two vertebral bodies where 1 vertebrae slips forward in front of the other...VERY painful condition. Normally occurs in the lumbosacral region. Causes are degenerative conditions, prolapsed discs, failed back surgery, traumatic injury. Treatment is limited to surgical repair depending on the patient, history, degree of slippage, location etc. I suggest any surgical recommendations you get a 2nd opinion and even 3rd opinion. Mix it up and get a neurosurgeon opinion and orthopedic surgeon opinion. Pain Management is your only other option. This condition can be treated. The underlying problem must be noted first...what caused it? Was it trauma or age due to degenerative disease of the spine? Nothing can be done about our age or degenerative spine disorders. Walking every day is important. Keep a pain journal, I am shocked to see you on Tramadol. If it is working for you That's great, I would keep doing what you are. If it's not working, then I would suggest having a talk with your pain doctor. I have Retrolythesis, which is the same thing, but slippage is in the opposite direction....backwards. good luck!
In many cases, non-surgical treatment can help alleviate the symptoms such as taking the medications your doctor prescribes. Physical therapy may also help.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so even though it is available over the counter, there are also risks associated with taking it, such as increased risk of bleeding, stomach irritation, and stomach ulcers.
The FDA warns that Tramadol carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
Only your doctor can advise which one is best, and safest for you.
Are you on any other medications?
