Tramadol Classification (Page 2)

Updated

Is Tramadol a controlled substance, or is there any type of narcotic in them? I would really appreciate any reply. I would like to know ASAP if possible. It has been subscribed to my 16 year old son and I would like to know about the drug as soon as I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Hope to hear from someone real soon. Thanks again!

I suffered from the same condition (RSD from knee injury - affected both feet) and Tramadol is the only medication that offered relief and for me it has been highly affective. Been taking it for over 10 years. Porbably addicted but I'd rather deal with that than constant RSD pain. Tramadol brought my life back.

Hi, JW hit the nail on the head .
( ultram/tramadol does have a narcotic base but it is so small it is barely noticeable. )
It is NOT considered a controlled substance.
Mej, I also have RSD in my hands and feet- Email me so we can chat about our similarities. I have a compounded cream that works great, So, you do not have to take as many pain meds. ( unless you flair up ). I got off of 5 VICODIN a day to 5 a month. ( They work better too !) Yea !
Would like to hear from you Mej, DI too !
I also have a great chat site for RSD/CRPS, Doctors are on there too !! My Email is::[email protected].

Good luck with the Tramadol
Regarding JenJen.Its hould be fine for your 12 yr old. SHORT TERM.
If you have any second thoughts on her taking it. Ask your doctor for TYLENOL 4's. Very weak but great for kids.
Bye...:)

Ultram is a controlled substance and is also addictive. I've taken it since it came onto the market. As a nurse, I research all medications I take. I recently stopped the script against my PCP's orders due to it masking other heath issues. The Ultram helped greatly with the fibromyalgia but I prefer to try to control the pain without med's. Good luck to all! Please be careful with ANY drug. Everyone reacts differently.

Tramadol is indeed addictive. I was given th emed for migraine use and after only a month my body and mind began to need the drug every day. The dose increased over time also because I was always trying to chase the first feeling I ever got from it. As for helping with the migraines, it actually works great! It works a a profolactic for me. Be careful to anyone who takes it. Even if taken like you are supposed to, your body can become dependant wether you like it or not.

I am addicted to opiates (lortab, percocet, etc.) and one thing for sure is that if I cannot get the other painkillers, Tramadol will alleviate any and all withdraw effects, like being 'dope sick', the flu like symptoms a junky gets from withdraw. However, if I stop taking Tramadol, I get hot and cold flashes along with general achy feelings in all of my joints - oh, and bouts of diarrhea and gastrointestinal problems for a few days.

ortho doctor, you are part right on tramadol, it is not a controlled substance at the federal level, the fda and dea list it as a drug of concern, its not even a schedule 5, now a few states like kentucky and south carolina have made it a controlled substance, but in most states its not controlled. it maybe monitored to some degree but as od october 5th 2010 its still not controlled in my homestate of alabama, but according to some pharmacist friends of mine, the fda is goin to schedule it soon, but i been hearing that for yrs!! i got hooked on lortab before and tramadol and after 3 days the lortab/ hydrocodone withdrawals were gone. but tramadol withdrawals lasted 17 days!! i was taking tramadol for 4 yrs for lower back pain. i loved the way tramadol made me feel, almost normal, gave me energy and was never depressed but the withdrawals were hell!!!

My mother gave me tramadol at the ripe young age of 12 and i have been addicted to it for 15 years in my opinion the dr should have givent the child tylenol 3 or even T2s witch are very mild and less additing in my opinion you should never give this drug to young children there are many other drugs that work much better and are not so addicting e.g. i think these are better and less addicing Vicodin any form loratab , hydrocodone, ...Tylenol W/Codine #3 has 30 mg codine and 300 my tylenol and #2 have 15mg codine and 300 mg codine And they do still make #4s witch are double a #3 but with no extra tylenol There are also vicoprofin witch is symilar to vicodin but has ibuprofin in it instead for acct. and comes in larger doses and they dont have to take as much and will work for pain.. I think that tramadol do very little if nothing for pain it gets you HIGH and of coarse you will feel better then lol.. But tramadol is bad and has very strange side effects just learn alot of facts i have and it has actually helped me talk to drs and that have gotten me better medical care in the past. If you tell your dr what you know about he will not think that you are a drug addict he will just think that you have done some research to help you better understand the things that you are putting in your body. Thanx

I have taken Valium for 30 years without being addicted. (many people say that if you've taken it for 30 yrs YOU ARE addicted.) I've been at 5 mg all these years and use it as needed even tho the instruct says 2, 3xday. I dn't take them everyday or week, just as needed. I dont take the amount - only what is needed. My last requirement was two weeks ago and I haven't taken any panics so no valiums, and I go for months some times. I only have it when I panic when it stops I stop. No sickness, no withdrawals. I am in no way saying it's okay for anybody or everybody. I meet regular with my psychiatrist. I just don't want you to scare people by connecting it to Vicodin.

Valium and Vicodin are no where near each.

Finally the FDA & medical community is catching on, as it has now been a controlled substance for about a yr+ now. Each person is wired differently as their body's chemical reaction to meds. Many factors go into "addiction" … one strong one being genetics. I was on Tramadol 50 mgs for several yrs daily & had no problems weaning off the drug. Going off this drug cold turkey can cause seizures, as well as taking too much. (Anyone correct me if I'm wrong) The bottom line is that it has been found to be very addictive, even though not a traditional opiate it still connects to the same opiate receptors in the brain. So, even though not in the opiate family, it has fair - mod potential for abuse.

I take tramadol daily(100mg) and it wt works well for my fibromyalgia, back pain, etc, it does make you slightly drowsy and it is slightly addictive when you dont take it,
i get mildly shaky but overall is my painkiller of choice for those nasty back pains. in relation to kidney problems every drug including aspirin should be taken cautiously

I have type II diabetes and neuropathy and after unsuccessful meds from my primary doc (gabbapentin) for treating the neuropathy pain; I seen a neurologist. He prescribed tramadol for my neuropathy pain. He is a very well respected neurologist so I trust it is safe for me to take as a diabetic. The prescription is written for 1 to 2 tabs daily (50 mg). I take one every night and it seems to be managing my pain better than anything else. I do not suffer any adverse affects thus far nor do I feel "high" or like I do when I take narcotic pain meds. FYI, while my primary doc insisted for a year my neuropathy is totaly diabetes related my neurologist did some additional tests. He found I was toxic with vitamin B6 and that in and of itself causes peripheral neuropathy! He had me quit taking the Bcomplex vitamins I was taking immediately. The neuropathy pain is improved but not completely resolved yet. The tramadol helps keep it under control for sure.

Tramadol is an opiate, synthetic. It is a schedule 4 drug in 3 or 4 states. It does act on opioid receptors probably similiar to the extent of Darvocet. It is addictive as I have run out of it before and felt like death.

I've had terrible back pain for years and I'm telling you, Ultram works 100% better than Vicodin or meds like that. Plus it works for 12 hrs. vs 4-6 hrs for the others.
I don't know why it hasn't been considered a controlled substance yet, or if it will ever be in Ohio.YZ

Tramadol can be addicting. I was addicted to it for 2 years. In order to get off of them I had to go to rehab for it. I couldnt get off of it myself. My withdrawls were horrible trying to do it myself. So Please if you are going to give it to your 16 year old, make sure you are giving it to him! Dont let him take it on his own. Even though study say that it is a non-narcotic and some study say it is. It is a very addicting drug. I mean come on you feel good on it.
