Topomax For Pain And Bipolar

i have been using topomax since november 2010 for neuropathy pain. i had the typical side affects of facial numbness, tingling, flat taste of any carbonated drink and the best of all side effect was my 32 lb. weight loss and counting. since then i have been prescribed the medicine for bipolar along with cymbalta which also works great for my neuropothy. these two medications together seem to be the best cocktail for my pain and my bipolar. i have been on many different meds. in my adult life and none of them have given me the results that these two have. so for those of you that are thinking of getting off of topomax before you allow the side effects to go away, i would suggest that you at least hang in there for a few weeks to see if the good results outweigh the bad side effects. i also forgot that i have had some hair loss and some foggy thinking days where it was hard to get my thoughts together in my mind to allow the words to come out of my mouth no matter how hard i tried to figure out what word i was trying to say. but without my meds my body aches like im 90 with serious arthritis and my personality turns very aggresive and unfriendly due to my clinical depression and bipolar. im also on trazadone which is a great sleeping aid with a dose of medicine for depression also. i hope there are those that have great results like i do and i am willing to lose a little hair that will grow back rather than go through the body pains and constant emotional pain. i can cope better with lifes issues instead of breaking down at everything that happens and i do mean everything! God bless..........

Very glad that these medications are working for you.

Yes, it can take about 4 to 6 weeks for side effects to hit their peak, as your body adjusts to any medication. After that, they should start to taper off, as it reaches its full effectiveness.

As to the Trazodone, it's not a sleeping medication with a dose of antidepressant thrown it, it is a straight antidepressant. It just happens to cause drowsiness as a side effect.
