Took Zoloft For One Night - When Will It Leave My Body?

Last night i took my first dose of 50mg Zoloft. This is my first anti-anxiety med i've ever taken and it was prescribed to me by my doctor. The side effects started about 3 hours after taking it at 6:30pm and i had panic attacks for hours with little sleep and dizziness. I've lost my appetite and it has been 24 hours now since the dose. I contacted my doctor and they said i could call it off cold turkey since it was only one dose and i shouldn't see any withdrawal side effects. I'm just wondering when the side effects of the first dose will leave my body and i can go back to being normal? I was bedridden all day and i'm only 5'3" and 130 pounds. I've been drinking water to try and flush it out of me but i am still pretty dizzy and no sign of sleep for the night. Any info would be helpful.

In conjunction with what was already stated in post #1, the US National Library of Medicine also lists "aggressive reactions" and "mood or behavior changes" as less common/rare side effects of Zoloft. And this is only a couple of many other potentially serious adverse effects. Personally, with all these inherent risks I get the sense that Zoloft has the ability to make an unstable individual even more unstable... So I completely agree with the observations that were previously mentioned.
As to the original poster's inquiry concerning when Zoloft will be out of their system, the half-life calculator here on MedsChat may help give you a rough estimate. You can access the half-life calculator on the home page or click on the following link: Drug Half-Life Calculator
My theory is that the side effects should subside with each passing half-life (which for Zoloft is an 'estimated' 29 hours till half of the dose you took leaves your system - and so forth).
Hope this helps!
Hello Webecca, I am very sorry you went through horrible experience with Zoloft. Hope you're feeling normal and better by now.
Obviously, I am not a doctor nor have I ever taken any psych med but I just want to share something that I witnessed in my friend who has taking Zoloft for sometime. He initially took Zoloft for combating depression (his wife left him). He somehow couldn't get his Zoloft for day and a half and got into severe withdrawal. He went psychotic. And I mean, very unstable. In your case, you only took one dosage so it's all out of your system by now safely.
My concern is this. I noticed drastic mood changes in my friend who now says and does things I find to be quite irrational. He has violent outbursts and I now am scared to be near someone like that. He thinks all the trouble was simply caused by withdrawal but I'm not even sure if Zoloft is affecting him negatively, thinking and behaving irrationally, completely out of character. Yes, my friend is an argumentative type but I've read on posts that Zoloft makes people very agitated. I just happened to be posting my comment about Zoloft and came across your post. Thought I'd share what I witnessed with my friend.
