Took Effexor For 2 Days

I started taking Effexor yesterday. 75mg twice a day. I immediately started feeling nauseated. I also felt very anxious. I googled it and came across these message boards filled with horror stories about the side effects and God-forbid if you try to wean yourself off of it. My question is since I've only been taking it for 2 days, will i have the horrible side effects if I stop taking it? I should have done research on it before I started taking it. I usually do. But this time I was just so desperate for something to help with my depression.

The FDA classifies Effexor as an SNRI antidepressant and what you experienced are typical side effects that can be experienced by someone just starting it, along with dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes.

No, you shouldn't have any problems, if you stop taking it after only a couple of doses. However, before you stop, you should be aware that this medication is no more or less risky than any other antidepressant on the market.

While this site may be filled with horror stories, you have to take into account that those posts are from a very small percentage of people that have had bad experiences. The great amount of people take it without any major problems, which is they they aren't posting. They don't have a reason to hunt up such a website for information or to ask questions about it.

Since you need help with depression, what I would suggest is that you speak to your doctor to have an honest discussion about the pros and cons of taking it, then you can make an informed decision on whether you want to stay on it, or try something else.

I took Zoloft/Sertraline for years, but didn't have any severe problems, when I stopped cold turkey, I just felt fuzzy headed for awhile and I am now on Prozac, whenever the dose is adjusted, I experience some irritability, anxiety and insomnia for about 3 weeks, but then it tapers off and eventually goes away entirely.

Can anyone else chime in here?
