To Hell With Plavix
UpdatedI had a heart attack and DES stent and was told to take Plavix, Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. I quit taking Plavix after 6 months even though my cardiologist wanted me to take it for 2 years. I also quit taking the Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. Well that was 9 months ago when I stopped taking everything and I feel great. My doctor says I was lucky that nothing happened. Lucky? Luck has nothing to do with it! I became a vegan and follow the Ornish diet strictly. I take vegan Omega3's. I also take coq10, a multi-vitamin, and drink unprocessed cocoa. I exercise. My LDL without drugs is 70. My bp is 105/70. To hell with Plavix.

Actually, the reason your doctor said you were lucky is due to the rebound effects that suddenly stopping such medications can cause.
These effects can be very dangerous and possibly life threatening and you were just very fortunate that they didn't happen to you.
Suddenly stopping the Plavix, without tapering, has caused some people to develop severe blood clots that resulted in heart attack, stroke and embolisms. This information is well documented.

Stopping Metoprolol suddenly, without tapering, or switching to an equivalent medication can results in severely elevated blood pressure and heart rate, which may result in heart attack and/or stroke.

It's fantastic that you were able to stop taking them, without experiencing any dangers and are keeping your medical issues under control naturally, but these warnings do need to posted for others, that may not be as lucky.
Are there any questions or comments?
I'm aware of the info you posted. I've spent an entire year researching these drugs and heart disease. You're right about not stopping suddenly. I started tapering off the drugs just 2 months post DES. At 6 months I was off completely. It's been a year now since I stopped completely. My strict vegan diet, omega3's, and other supplements is what's keeping my blood thinned. Lots of information about this out there. Also, some studies show that Plavix after 6 months is useless for both bare and DES stents.
The research design concluding that stopping Plavix suddenly leads to a rebound effect was flawed. More recent studies show no rebound effect. Here are two citations:

Hi there. I'm 42 and just had a HA and stent. I'm already vegan, all arteries are good, just 1 was 95% blocked.
How soon can I give up this rat poison? My body is so fit and healthy these plavix and aspirin are really messing me around. Only been 4 weeks on them.
