Tingling Neck
(Newest replies first)

Since starting topomax in February, I have been experiencing the tingling in my fingers almost constantly. I also tingle on my scalp and my face. And when I get hot it feels like the front of my neck gets really tight. Not quite the same tingly feeling, but similiar. I talked to the neuro about it and he said it wasn't a side effect if the topomax that it must be anxiety. Has anyone else experienced this? And if it's anxiety whh would it only happen when I'm hot and why did it start the same time as the other symptoms.

Sorry to hear what you are experiencing. I have been taking Topomax for about 3 years or so now. It's been a God send to me. But,everyone's different, not all people can take the same medications. As a matter of fact, I had been put on it years ago, on very low dose, working up, and we had to stop, I had side effects. But this time, almost 9 or so years later no side effects at all, and on made it to the high dosage we wanted to get to. Plus, the one great thing about this medication versus others, you don't gain weight, you lose some, which was another big plus for me. Got rid of the weight those other meds had added on! But good luck to you. Hopefully either the tingles will go away, or your doctor will find the right med for you.
You're very welcome, I hope you get it straightened out.
My fiancé had a similar experience with the first antiseizure medication that he tried. It actually caused anxiety and a complete personality change, so he had to stop taking it and switch to a different one.
Please keep me updated!
Hi. I've been taking it since February. The feeling in my neck started the same time as in my fingers so I assumed it was the topomax. I have been moody. You would think the neurologist would think to suggest the anxiety would be caused from the topomax instead of making me feel crazy. He told me that I was a little tightly wound! I am going to see my gp today and discuss it with him. Thanks for the help!
Hello, Kimberly! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.
I really can't explain why it's happening this way, but if it is due to anxiety, that could be caused by the Topamax, it has been known to cause anxiety, depression, mood problems and hallucinations, as listed by the FDA.
Most of the antiseizure medications can cause those types of symptoms. In some cases, they cause such a severe personality change that someone has to stop taking the one their on and try a different medication.
How long have you been taking it? These side effects may eventually go away, once your body is used to the medication.
