Hi all, 6 weeks ago I had my operation and was told that as only half my thyroid had been removed, I would not need medication. My level has come back at 7.87 and have been prescribed 25 mg dose of Levthyroxine to start tomorrow morning. I suppose I am really asking if anyone can tell me their experiences when they first started medication as I am due to return to work on Monday and wondering how I may be affected and what to look out for. Thank you ## How did your return to work go? Have you have any problems since you started the medication? Learn more Levothyroxine details here. I have never taken it, but from other posts on here, I can tell you that when first starting it, some people have experience nausea, dizziness, palpitations and irritability. ## Hi Verwon, Back to work is goi...

Hi been on 75mg of thyroxine for several years but been increased to 100mg now t4 4.5 but dr said the hormone in my brain is not proccessing the thryroxine properly and level keeps on rising, after 4 weeks on this dose felt great, but now i have sores on my scalp, and lumps itchy on my neck and back is this normal ## What types of lumps? How big are they? Can you give more precise locations? That almost sounds like it may be glandular swelling. Learn more Thyroxine details here. And no, such symptoms aren't normal and you should have them checked out, something is likely off-balance or odd.

Small, dainty football shaped white pill. It is vertically scored through the center and has a capital M on one side of the score and a capital L on the other. The other side of the pill has the number 12. I believe it may be a thyroid pill such as a generic cytamel but cannot find it on line. ## Yes, it is a tablet that's used to treat thyroid disorders. To be specific, it contains 25mcgs of Liothyronine, which is a generic for Cytomel, just as you suspected. Learn more Liothyronine details here. Where did you find it?

Why can"t I eat an hour before an after I take my medication ? Levothyroxin 50 MCG ## Hi Trudi, According to Livestrong.com, "consumption of levothyroxine with certain foods can significantly reduce its absorption. Thyroid hormones levels will be decreased if you take your medication with foods such as soybean flour, cotton seed meal, walnuts, dietary fiber, calcium or calcium fortified juices. These foods should be avoided within several hours of taking your medication. In addition, thyroid hormone levels may be increased if you fast while on this medication. To avoid such fluctuations, levothyroxine should be administered on a consistent schedule, with regard to time of day and relation to meals." I also know from personal experience that some medications can cause nausea/...

I have been taking levathyroxine for about 2 months now and about a month ago I noticed a little bit of wetness in my underwear that smells like urine. I don't have any symptoms of a vaginal infection and I got tested for a UTI and I don't have that either. It seems like it is getting stronger and not better, anybody know what this is? Should I call my dr? Thanks!

Is anyone had allergic reactions to Levothyroxine? My neck is on fire and itching and the only change has been from Synthroid .75 to Levothyroxine .88. Last test showed 8.2 level after being on .75 for 6+ years. ## It's possible to have an allergic reaction to anything you take, but isn't necessarily dependent on whether or not it has happened to anyone else. Learn more Levothyroxine details here. However, since it's involving your neck, there is a chance that it may worsen and if it spreads internally, it could obstruct your breathing. Thus, you need to contact your doctor to discuss the problem. How are you feeling today?

The pill is small, round, and blue. The interconnected triangles look like a pharmaceutical companies logo, but I do not recognize it. Could this be a 137 synthroid type of medication? ## The round blue pill you're describing sounds very similar to Synthroid 137 mcg, but still doesn't seem to quite match the ID of that pill. Abbott Laboratories' round blue pill has the word SYNTHROID on one side and 137 on the other. It also looks like there's a score line on either side of the 137 that aren't connecting. National Drug Code (NDC): 00074-3727 Does anyone else here recognize this pill?

my dog is taking novo thyro for hypo thyroid,,, i am wondering if i can cut it in half because she is still at 78 and she should be under 50. my vet wants to take her right off but i feel she still needs some otherwise her syptoms come back. they are 0.2 mg. ## Hi cedar, Usually if there is a score line (divid) embedded into the tablet, it means the manufacturer purposely made it so patients could easily cut it in half. Whether or not there is a score line, I would still feel safe cutting the pill in half if the drug itself is not in extended-release form. It is my own understanding that some extended-release pills loose their time sustaining properties if cut in half, depending on whether or not it is a capsule or a tablet; but please correct me if I'm wrong on that. Hope this advi...

Levoxyl is pinkish in color and shaped like a peanut. The other pill in the bottle is round and blue in color. There are no markings on it. I am concerned that it may be something entirely different and some other drug. ## The ones you mentioned that are shaped similar to a peanut are the name brand Levoxyl tablets. Learn more Levoxyl details here. Where did you get the prescription filled? The reason I'm asking is because prescription tablets should have some type of marking on them to enable their identification, which makes me somewhat suspicious of tablets that don't have any markings at all.

I got my thyroid out 17 years ago and was put on Levothyroxine and was increased slowly until i was on 200mg per day and have been for a good few years. Some how what was left of my thyroid gland has started to produce thyroxine, so I became over medicated and the doctor has cut me down to 175mg per day. I feel really down and feel sick and bloated feeling, everytime I eat. My breasts have also became very lumpy. I also have all the signs of anxiety, sweat, palpatations, shortness of breath etc. I feel my doctor could do more, but she said she will take my bloods again in 3 months to see if I am on the right dose of thyroxine. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. ## I am sorry that you are feeling so miserable. I hate to see anyone suffering for any reason. However, if you don'...

I have been on the same dose of synthroid for the last 14 years 200mcg. I previously had Graves many years ago, had radiation to stop the goiter hence the high dose of the medication. I am levels are checked routinely and the last 2 tests show my thyroids is alittle overactive so my dose was lowered. I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago. What could have caused the change? ## It might just be due to the changes that have occurred in your body as time has passed. Our bodies do change regularly and sometimes a medication has to be changed, or the dosage adjusted. It's perfectly normal and actually quite amazing that you were doing so well with the same dose for that many years. Learn more Synthroid details here. I've been noticing lack of desire for food and will on eat because it feels like my blood sugar plummits about 5-7 hrs after taking my meds. I get jittery, and irritable and have to ear immediatly or i get so sick. When I went to my dr after a couple of months, they rechecked my levels and they were normal so they left me on the same dosage but I knew something is going on. I was previously diagnosed with anxiety and depression, after many years of antidepressant mess I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. They started me on 50mcg it was good for a year then had to be increased to 100mcg and I feel loads better, no more anxiety attacks and my mood is a lot better. If I miss my med doses I can tell I become moody. I have slowly lost weight over the years I have been on it. I'd say about 50lbs. But I also eat healthier and exercise more, before I couldn't do it much due to lack of energy. Constantly tired sleeping all day and had stomach pain a lot. Before my doctor said my body was functioning to 20-30% what it should be functioning. So that makes a huge difference. Also I have borderline high blood pressure so I am on a sodium restricted diet. And al...

Hi, I just got diagnosed this week with hypothyroidism. This is my second day of taking 25mcg of levothyroxine. I am expericing a decrease in appetite with little interest in food. Which is highly unusual for me. Is this normal to have such a quick reaction to the medication? ## It's possible to have that happen, medications can affect everyone differently. Someone else may not experience any side effects, or they it may take weeks for them to manifest, while you may experience them right away. That's just the nature of adding such chemicals to the body. Learn more Levothyroxine details here. This is often seen in people that are sensitive to a medication. It frequently happens to me if I have to switch or take a new one, too. However, if it lingers for more than a few weeks, or...

Had total thyroidectomy 12 yrs. ago, ,due to thyroid cancer, was on Levothroid until last week ( manufacturer no longer makes them). I was then given Levothyroxine 150mcgs and began them on Monday . Problems began to appear about 1 hr. after taking them. Headaches, short winded, very cold feeling, extreme exhaustion, Very sleepy all the time, panicky type feeling, no appetite. I have been told by several people w/ thyroid problems, that people with throid cancer should never take a generic thyroid med. must take only Brand name ones,,have any of you heard of this before ? I would appreiciate any advice that you may offer,,thank you . ## That isn't true, some people may have had problems with a generic version of it, but that doesn't necessarily apply to all generic versions, or t...

I have been taking this medication for only 4 days and today i noticed a very abnormal skin itch. Is this normal? Will it go away after few days? ## No this is a reaction stop taking it and call your doctor. ## Some people do experience some dry skin as a side effect from taking Levothyroxine, but it really depends on how severe it is.
