Thyroid Issues
UpdatedI have been obese all my life except for brief periods where I Iost some weight only to gain it back. I'm now a 61 year old male, 290 lbs, 5'7" and was diagnosed for the first time with hypothyroidism in December of 2011, and I was started on 50 mcg's daily of Levothyroxine (Synthroid). That's 5 months now. I have following my weight loss plan faithfully, walking 2 miles every day, and I have lost SQUAT! I have had no negative side effects to the medication, but I'm just not losing any weight in spite all my efforst. My doctor said that my first follow up tests (6 weeks after I started the med.) showed that my THF levels were improving--so what's up? I'm frustrated, discouraged, and ready to eat Brooklyn. HELP!!!

Sometimes, in spite of all efforts to the contrary and the resolution of medical issues, someone is just naturally meant to be heavier and nothing can be done to really change it.
My mother was very similar to you, including the thyroid problem and she never was able to lose much weight and stayed overweight until the day she died.
There are also people that have the opposite problem, I've been tiny my whole life and nothing has changed it.

How many calories do you take in each day and what types of foods do you eat?
Hi in the dumps,
I'm similar to you, in fact the reason I went to dc was because I was unable to shift what I thought was baby weight despite walking everywhere and eating between 1200 and 1400 cals max per day. She did bloods and my TSH levels were 74?! She said she was surprised I could get out of bed in morning but I think having 3 kids I have no choice, even though I am exhausted most of time, the thought of getting bigger makes me walk lots. I hope you get your meds right soon and although I'm far from an expert as only got diagnosed 2 weeks ago i imagine when you do, if you stick at it then it will happen. Have you thought about seeing a specialist instead of a general doctor? I really hope things start to improve for you soon, please keep me updated. Also prob better to ignore negative people who tell you it will probably not get better as that's far from helpful. Keep going x
I am taking thyronorm 50mg, doc told me my dosage to be 100mg, if I take 100 I start putting on weight, my muscles cramp I cannot do any work, I get joint pains. If I reduce to 50mg, my TSH is 4.3 again the weight increases, but I feel better in moving my body but my BP is high, and also I am getting boils under my chin and private parts. I am looking for a solution as to why this is happening?
I have been on medication for my thyroid problem..... Some days back I had chest pain which had gotten worse over time, so my doctor prescribed me Bio-D3 max and tryptomer 10mg for one time every night for one month and it's been 11 days. I have taken all of my medication but I'm still noticing chest pain again after 6-7 days and drowsiness. I'm also sleeping more now... And after waking up I don't feel any activeness in me. I feel weaker and the main thing is my exams are coming up and I haven't prepared for exams because of chest pain earlier and now I'm having more problems with my concentration due to these symptoms. What should I do?
