There Are Three Manufacturers Who Make Methylphenidate (Top voted first)
UpdatedThe 3 Manufacturers are Mallinkrodt/Methylin, Sandoz and Watson Pharmaceuticals. On this day, December 3,2011 I learned that if a generic drug is back ordered in lots of different Pharmacies our HMO's will pay for the drug that is prescribed. All who are prescribed Methylphenidate 20 mg. are being turned away by CVS, RiteAid, including the pharmacies in some Giant food stores . If you are prescribed both forms of this drug do not let the Pharmacist fill one part of your prescriptions and if both are on 1 prescription sheet never trust anyone to complete the refill. They'll fill the one they have and as far as the other part, you lose!
To Jasmine and everyone else who has no insurance or on a budget. You can contact the pharmaceutical company that is producing the drug and usually they will have a '" Financial Assistance " Program to help cover some of the cost if not all. Just look around a couple of the manufactures websites and you should find at least one.
Finally my pharmacy failure has been explained. I went to my CVS Pharmacy and Talked with the manager about the crisis of this back order defense being denied a full refill.
He told me that if this drug is truly back ordered, my HMO
will fill my generic drug with the brand presently. All the pharmacists had lied to me. Whatever their agenda is it's hurting a lot of peopleAS
My granddaughter was just diagnosied with ADHA and now takes Methylphenidate ER 18 mg every morning, for ADHD. The problem is that when I need to fill the prescription all the surrounding pharmarcies state that they are out and that the new order will be coming in, in a few days, but that there is no granantees that they will have the new order. Can you help me.
I have taken Ritalin for almost 10 years. I was on 6x10mg per day. Told my Dr that my ADD had not been controlled for the past couple of years. I asked to try the 20mg IR at 4 times per day - 80mg total. He obliged and I get Watson brand from Walgreens. Actavis seems to be taking over all of the generic medications in our country! I dislike their formulations - example; Watson 10mg Percocet switched to Actavis and now everyone complains. The 20mg Ritalin did not feel as strong as the 10mg(x2) so I plan to try the 20mg in a different brand next month. King Soopers/Kroger dispenses the Mallinckrodt in 10 and 20 mg. 10 mg have worked okay and are conveniently small. Will see about the 20mg. I read reviews and a lot of people do not like the Malli brand - but of course, results do vary. I think I was written the 80mg dose for a few reasons.
1 - Doc told me they prefer to write Rx for fewer pills because the DEA gets a red flag when the quantity of pills is too high.
2 - I weigh about 240# so that may help with the mg per pound/kilo ratio.
3 - I have 10 years tolerance.
4 - I am written several Rx that are sedating and make me sleepy (pain and anxiety meds). The Ritalin gives me the needed alertness but does not wire me or keep me awake any longer.
Side note - I started with 10mg IR and 20mg SR when first prescribed. The 20mg SR became impossible to locate and that was my opportunity to switch to the 10mg IR. I think they prefer writing Rx for 4x20mg versus 6 or more 10mg pills.
ACTUALLY A FIVE YEAR PLAN WHICH IS GOVERNMENT (our dime) OPERATED so the Pharm industry can optimize its profits, regardless of the people who can't afford this system. In capitalist society it is the companies who can find their statistics and make profit decisions. The Government is not operating as capitalism we once knew. The govt is creating laws to allow them to make certain industries rich, with our personal and consumer habits data collection. Then with no payment for our data they control supply and demand. Hint: any small pharmacies left? bad deal for u.s. citizens. . They create the quota "shortages" to bump their profit. Their are no shortages. and why should drug enforcement set drug quotas, not their field, it should be health industry, and D.E.A. should not practice medicine!!! Or obstruct it!!
The real problem is due to the manufacturing limits that are set each year by the DEA, this is done with all controlled substance prescriptions.
Once the manufacturers hit their limit, they can no longer provide further supply to the pharmacies and this creates these types of shortages.
Production should return to normal in January.

that true for many except for ritalin and methylphenidate you can get all the generic ones like the vyvanse but they are not the same they're just not the same I've looked everywhere for years I need Ritalin so badly was on it for 15 years and then on methylphenidate and then lost insurance I've been without it for like 8 years now can't find a break anywhere
I am having the same problem my doctor prescribed me methylphenidate 20mg, an every pharmacy I go to keeps telling me that they ordered it, but it's been 9days and they keep telling me that the order hasn't come in yet, what can I do, I need help, I don't know who to turn to, it's ridiculous.
Ask the pharmacy to dispense a lower strength and adjust the quantity to match the total Rx. My pharmacy said they would dispense twice as many 10mg (than my 20mg IR Rx) but only with the stock on hand and contacting my Dr for their approval. Stock was n ot on hand and I was not sure how my Dr. would view the request. The Watson 20 IR is okay and I have not seen any shortages since I stopped taking the 20 mg SR. Watson 20mg IR does not feel as strong as 2 10mg pills and I run out every month lately.
Side note: King Soopers pharmacy has a pharmacist who tried to play Doctor! I appreciate that they may be looking out for us but realize it is mainly their license they look after. My 20mg dose of 4 per day - 80mg is above the "safe daily limit of 60mg) so this one pharmacist (not their first fill for my 4x20mg day) calls me and my Dr and tries to get them to change my medication to an SR or something different all together. I explained I have over a decade of tolerance, large size body, and other medications that reduce the effect of Ritalin/Methylphenidate. This Pharmacist would not hear it and I asked for my Rx back to take my business elsewhere. This made me more mad the longer I thought of it and I resent them for playing Dr when he does not have 15 years experience treating me and knowledge of my medical conditions and history! The note on back of Rx said something about my Dr. refused to comply to his request, blah blah. Walgreens filled it in 15 minutes with no hassles! King Soopers had the Malli and Corepharma brands. Another Pharmacist was kind enough the month before to let me try half of each and see which one worked better for me. I decided I think I preferred the Corepharma brand in 20mg IR.
My doctor prescribed Methylphenidate 36 ER in December. Yesterday I got a notice from my insurance company that they will no longer cover the cost of this drug. My pharmacist informed me that the cost would be $260 per month. I am on disability and there is no way I can afford this. I have been seeing my doctor for almost 25 years and this is the first drug that has provided me significant relief from my depression. Is there any assistance you can give me in continuing to use this drug?
Also if the pharmacy is short what you are prescribed and you accept that shortage example say your doc writes you for 30 pills and the pharmacy only has 10 and you accept that 10 than you have to get another script for the remaining 20. The pharmacy doesnt owe you for the balance. I found this out and it was a big headache so it would benefit you to either call ahead and ask for how many they have in stock or ask when their delivery for the drug comes in they may or may not tell you otherwise you will run into a big headache make sure your doctor writes the script clearly the date the amt prescribed the complete name of the drug i.e. methylphenidate LA bc if anything written is not complete or wrong the pharmacy will not fill it. The fed govt has really cracked down on psychiatrists and m.d.s prescribing amphetamines so make sure before you leave the doctors office you have the correct name of the drug whether its long acting or suspended release its spelled correctly the strength of the drug the amount the correct date
I receives quail test as well. Wondering if they are as good as other brands or complete and dirty pills. They seem to give me a bursts for 40 minutes then three four hours of hhr and pissing non stop
Re: Pat Stewart (# 1)
It’s because it works ! Word is out the Adderall is all defective
I just got a prescription of it and went to CVS right here in my hometown and they filled it no problem...but yet here it is in May and the problem was probably fixed
My son takes METHYLPHENIDATE HCL ER 2 3X DAILY IN AM..However Children's Medical Security Plan only covers $200.00 a year. I went to fill his script on Monday and they told me $190.00 I cannot afford that. I have been unemployed for almost 3yrs now.We are living pay check to pay check..I am just wondering are there any coupons or anything that can help me?? He has not had meds all week for school. He is 16..
Thank you
Daily doses of methlyphenidate ?
Hi I am currently prescribed 20mg of ritalin IRX3tabs in a.m total of 60mg daily
All the websites I come across state 60mg is the maximum dose for any reason ritalin is used.
Yet a friend if mine is prescribed 80mg daily. 20mgx4a day.
My question is.. is anybody out there taking ritalin?if so what dose? Is ir higher then 60?
Hello. I have the same problem. My son was diagnosed with ADHD and the Dr prescribed Methylphenidate. I called my insurance and they said my co-pay is 744.04 for 3 mos. I called the pharmaceutical company and they could not help me however they directed me to Partnership for RX at 888-477-2669, which directed me to the website, I filled out some quick info and they called me back. I can get my sons meds for 80 a month now!! Call them, its worth a shot.
There are legit websites... You know an overseas pharmacy is real when they won't sell oxycodone, hydrocodone, and other narcotics.... Personally I was recently in Panama and they sold soma and testosterone OTC..BUT NOTHING STRONGER unless you had a script.
I have been taken Ritalin for 2yrs.
This last time i filled at a small pharmacy and saw that the manufacturer was one i neverhad before...Qualitest and alway before i had Watson is there much difference do you know???

Really not, Stacy. That's contrary to the law, actually.
