I have been told that theophylline er is being discontinued. Is this true? I have taken it for years for asthma.

I started on Theo 24 and loved the way it worked for me (TheoDur does not do it for me even though they are supposed to be the same). Then it became scarce and when it came back the price had jumped about 10X what I had been paying before. My insurance would no longer approve it. That's when I changed to Theophylline and am back in the same position - again.

CVS filled my prescription for the equivalent of Theophylline 200 MG ER, which is Theo 24. I asked the pharmacist about the pharma discontinuing this med which is brand and she said that she could not guarantee that she could get my medication next month? The pill I took today is working great so far! Just keep praying to our God above that we will get put medication!

I'm on Sandoz Theophylline 200mg twice daily & can't cope without it but live in South Africa so hope there won't be a problem here with all the importation problems! I was also using a Lung Care product locally made by a Cardiologist but that has been discontinued due to the high import cost of the necessary herbal ingredients. Even Amazon has stopped their supply here.

Mufti tot called in my 200mg ER Theophylline to CVS and the pharmacist said they will try to fill it, but they were not sure they discontinued it. They said that the equivalent medicine is Theodur. If they can't get the theophylline that Theodur is the same. It is more expensive a $40 co pay now, instead of $20 or $10.

Same here. I was told that the wholesaler for Walgreens could not get the medication, but CVS can!

The info I've been consistently given is one manufacturer is no longer making the drug; the other has it on back order. I have been able to get various strengths filled primarily thru CVS. I pray the back order status changes soon as this drug is the only thing that relieves my severe asthma (like others!).

Walgreens told me they were out, that it was discontinued and they were unable to order it. CVS and Rite aid said the same. I found only the 70 I mentioned a few replies ago, so bought it up so I'd have a stash for a few months at least as no other drugs have worked to replace it.

CVS in my area (Western KY) does not have ANY in any strength and they said "No extended back order, possible discontinuation."

One of the several manufacturers did stop making it, but there are other manufacturers that will supply it. It was backordered for a bit...but I'm able to get it now.

People listen! Listen! I found out Theophylline has not been discontinued. Please check CVS or other pharmacies!!! URGENT! Please spread the word! We were given false information!!!

Good news everyone. I just called my pharmacy back and asked the pharmacist if the 200 mg ER Theophylline has really been discontinued, and she said no! She said they were just having trouble ordering it from their wholesaler? I called CVS and their pharmacist said that they can order it if I get my physician to call in the prescription. Please do not give up! Call other pharmacies to see if they can order your Theophylline for you. It has not formally been announced that the medication had been discontinued, my doctor told me that! Guess what people, I need to change my primary care physician.

I went to the Food & Drug Administration site...fda.gov and they said the 100mg tablets are back ordered but the 100 count 450mg and the 100 count 300mg that Heritage no longer markets this product and it has been discontinued.

I looked all over CNN's site, even attempted a search and could not figure out how to contact the medical advisor. It would help if you had the link you could share with the rest of us SO we could contact him and perhaps get this medication back in circulation.

Some people have been told it is absolutely discontinued, others have been told it will be back at a certain time. A manufacturer told me it was discontinued and they had no other information.

I just called my physician to see if she will be able to work with me on another form of medication, not steroids. I also submitted my story to CNN's Chief Medical Advisor Dr Sanjay Gupta. for review. Maybe a lot of you can go to CNNS website and submit your story. Please work on getting our medicine back!! We need it to live!!!

I know. I have been on Theophylline since 1984, and now I'm not sure if u will die if be hospitalized and not be able to work? Is it legal that ourmdficone is being discontinued? I'd there anyghing that we can do?

My Chihuahua has been taking Theophylline for 3 years...I was getting 100 mg tablet and cutting into 4 pieces and she takes 1 piece in the morning and 1 at night. Yesterday the Vet informed me the medication is on back order until the end of July. She said she could send script to compound pharmacy in liquid form and it would be $45.00 which is same I was paying for the pill from Vet's office. Pill form at compound pharmacy is $60.00. I chose pill form so I don have to fight her and take a chance she does not get it all. I have a feeling this medicine is going to skyrocket in price when it comes back because it has continued to rise in 3 years.

I had taken Theo-24 for years and then it became harder and harder to find until nothing. Then I switched to the generic (not working as well, but better than nothing). Now the latest - I found out in January that all strengths of theophylline was on backorder. I recently got a partial refill and was told it was the last in our county. Plus - no one is expecting any more from the manufacturer. Nothing else has worked for me. The "puffers" make me jittery and don't help.
