Mine is becoming hard to find. Only got a partial refill of three pills! When will this shortage end??? Can we ban together and go to the government about this ??

Like I stated, I got my 400 mg. tablets easy. Perhaps that won't be the case down the road but my pharmacy, walgreens, talked like it was easy to order. So perhaps you all might try getting those and cutting them, even though pharmacists say you shouldn't cut ER tablets. I took cut ER tablets for a couple years and did fine.

I am also no longer having difficulty. I filled it locally last time, and now it's on mail order from CVS Caremark. I get the 450 mg ER tabs.

Success. I called my Rite-Aid and asked them to search their database for other pharmacies that might have it and they located one with 165 tablets of the 200 mg in stock. Hopefully by the time all the drugstores run out, the manufacturers will start shipping again.

I am sorry to say that it has been discontinued. My physician just called me an hour ago and told me that I now have to take the 300 mg ER tablets. I won't be surprised if they discontinue this medicine all together. it said that there is a shortage and the pharmacy will not make it anymore?

I was told by several pharmacists that the active ingredient used to make this medication can make more money for the manufacturer to sell to the company who makes Musinex, rather than produce this generic pill. There is some stock in the 400mg supply randomly around the country, but smaller supply every day. 100's used for cat and dogs, is pretty much out. Yesterday I was told the liquid version, expected to be used by vets, contains Sorbital, which is not recommended for animal use. I called 16 pharmacies yesterday, no luck. I have 100 100mg pills left.

My dog has done well on these and it breaks my heart to think that he will start coughing again without these. The other alternatives do not sound healthy for my pet.

So those of us who depend on this medication to live, because we cannot tolerate other meds such as those with corticosteroids in them...we get to die because they want more money? This is such bulls***. Damn.

Compounding pharmacies will make it up specially but at double or triple the cost. Nice way to drive up prices at the expense of the consumer who can't do without the medication.

I received my 450 mg Theophylline ER from CVS/Caremark and it lists the manufacturer as Alembic PH, which is a pharmaceutical company in India. From what I've found, one manufacturer has stopped making it...but there are others.

Tell me about it. This is serious, so now we are going to die?

I've checked with 4 different manufacturers, who have all discontinued. The name brand is still available, per my Costco pharmacy, but a 30 day supply would be about $960/mo

This is getting scarier by the day. IVe been out of my reg theoph for a few days now, am taking a different dose and its the 24 hr kind that has other ingredients in it that my body doesn't like (I think the red dye on capsule is giving ne stomach problems. ) I am now supposedly getting an Rx for compound to be liquid but insurance won't cover it and who knows how long the compound supplies will last either . We need to ban together and do something this. There is power in numbers !!

Believe me you do not want to use predisone. It is a very dangerous drug! Don't use it at any cost. Side effects are cataracts, puffy extreme fluid retention and you will need to be weened off if it, and it may cause heart trouble and maybe even death. Do not use steroids at any cost!!

My pharmacy can't get theophylline. They have tried all of their sources & can't get it. According to the online information, Major/Treva are not currently making this drug w/ no reason. I've taken theophylline for 16 years. Not sure what my doc will prescribe.

Yes i have been on Theophyolline for about 8 years now and just in the past two months first Walgreens discontinued it and then i went to CVS and now they just told me they weren't able to get it anymore because it's not used that much anymore. The only reason I went off Advair was because i have high eye pressure and thought this might be a contributing factor, but i guess i have no choice now.

I'm in samea boat. Have bn taking it for about 10 years, and now they quit making it. I guess there is something new or old out there with the inhalors. Guess we have no choice. Will have to call dr tomorrow. Hope you get situated also

I'm really in trouble then, because I can't tolerate the variety of inhalers with the corticosteroids in them. I swell up, have trouble breathing, and itch when I take steroids. The only thing that works for me is Theophylline.

I just called Walgreens, even though I have 3 weeks left of my theophyllinek 400 ER, as I was getting nervous about it., So I called ahead to refill my prescription and was told they'd discontinued it, and they didn't have any of it. I did find 70 tablets at another pharmacy and that is all of their stash left. The price has gone up $20 per 30 tablets. It feels like chasing some illegal drug.

After this stash is gone, not sure what I'll do as the other asthma drugs are all cortisone derivatives. Advair shuts down my vocal cords and makes me sound like a smoker or long time whiskey drinker, not to mention its side affects.

I can sympathize. I cannot take anything in the steroid family. Even the lowest concentration of corticosteroid makes me swell up like a balloon and makes it difficult to breathe.
