The Side Effects Are Worth It!!
UpdatedI hear a lot of people complaining about side effects like nausea, headaches, dizziness, bad taste, vivid dreams and so on. Here is my take on it, yes there is going to be side effects on any drug, what you need to evaluate is, is it worth it? I say yes, I would rather have a headache any day than a hole in my throat speaking out of a voice synthesizer. I would rather be dizzy, than in the hospital getting a triple bipass surgery. I would rather have a bad taste in my mouth then be struggling to breath everyday. And I would rather have vivid dreams than to be dead and not to dream at all. Depression is the only one to watch out for if you experience this, it is not good so stop taking it. Otherwise I say tough out the side effects and live a longer life!

You bring up some very good points, however, there are some instances where the side effects can be very severe and people cannot have any quality of life if something is not done.
They may require a dosage adjustment or complete medication change.
In addition, some side effects can be life threatening, so a medication has to be discontinued.
For instance, some possible side effects of taking the diuretic Chlorthalidone are dehydration and low blood sodium, both of which can be fatal if something is not done and the drug discontinued.
I am speaking from experience, as I was taking it for almost a month and it caused both of those problems.

Does anyone else have anything to add?
I agree with you some side effects can be serious for a small percentage of those who take it. I don't believe this is a reason to ban the drug though. People react differently to every medication and even some heart medications can be fatal to certain individuals that have a bad reaction. Anti-depressants can lead to sever depression in some people and even suicide but people are still taking those by the hand full.
I am sorry you had a bad reaction to the drug, but I hope you were at least able to quit smoking from it.
As far as most complaints though, I think they are just grouchy because they want a cigarette :)
If you haven't tried a parsley supplement while taking chantix, give it a try! I almost gave up on chantix because the nausea was soo bad. Now I take 860mg parsley capsules along with chantix and No more nausea. I originally bought the parsley to aid with water weight gain and just happen to take both the capsules and the chantix at the same time one morning. In reading further about parsley, it's also recommended as a holistic digestive aid. This is a miracle to me and I'm so happy I found this. Good Luck!
