The Cost Of Suboxone
UpdatedI have been an addict for 20 years. I have tried rehab several times and I have experience with just about every method known for coming off of opiates. Suboxone works best for people that are just interested in being able to function normally. If someone is really serious and determined to be clean suboxone can really help if used correctly. But tbh most that I know that are on it only pursue it so they can either trade it or sale it so they can purchase their drug of choice. From what I have seen most doctors that prescribe it are in it for the money and not to help addicts get clean. In my area most doctors charge $100 a week to prescribe it and thats not even including what the pharmacy charges to fill the prescription. Thats just crazy to me because everyone knows that by the time an addict is ready to get help they have no resources cause they have exhausted everything they have when they were actively drug seeking. Every person I know that is on it has to sell half of what the doctor prescribes to people on the street just to be able to pay the doctor's fee and pay the pharmacy for getting them filled. This totally defeats the purpose of what suboxone is suppose to be for cause it keeps the addict in the destructive cycle of addiction and involves illegal activity. I once asked a doctor about all of this and his response was "well you were always able to come up with the money when you were buying drugs from the street". This may be true but at that time I didnt have many boundaries as to what I would do for money outta desperation and most of the ways I came up with it were illegal tbh. thats exactly the kinda train of thought I am now trying to break. But like I said if the patient takes the drug just as directed by a doctor it can be beneficial. But if addicts were able to stick to how drugs were prescribed then they wouldn't be addicts to begin with.

Sinfulbynature- You hit the nail on the head with your post. Most people I know who don't have insurance or A wealthy family really do have to sell half of what they get just to be able to pay for the Dr. Visit and then $9 or $10 A piece for them at the pharmacy. In Virginia, most Drs. Charge $100 a week or $400 A month. That means if you get 60 A month then your paying around $500. I have A decent job but I didn't have $900.00 A month for the visit and to get them filled plus A car payment and other bills. I'm 33 years old and had to move back into my parents house just to cover the expenses. And I was still broke after working 45 hours A week. Suboxone did save my life but if these Drs. And pharmacies really wanted to help people that have hit rock bottom and don't have any money or basically anything at all then someone needs to takeover what the Drs. and pharmacies can charge. Luckily I had parents who were still willing to help me after I put them through 6 or 7 years of hell and I finally got myself to only taking 2mg A day but most people don't have parents or anyone still willing to help. I've seen more people that I went to school with end up in jail just because they were forced to sell some of their prescription bc of the expenses just to really try to remain clean and take only their Suboxone but ended up selling to the wrong person or some i**** who had already gotten caught and set them up on purpose just so they didn't have to do the time. So many more people who are struggling with addiction could get the help we all have needed and this drug problem in America would decrease rapidly if people whom are in need of help had A way to afford it. The government could even set up A program to pay for people to get the help they need just like A student loan kids get in collage. Don't give the people straight cash, send them A debit card with A monthly limit that can only be used for Dr. appointments and to have medications filled. Then after the people get back on their feet and complete the program they can make affordable monthly payments to repay their debt. I think the government would really be surprised how many lives this would change and also how much this would decrease the drug abuse problem and overdose rate. This would save thousands if not millions of lives. To keep people honest they could cut their funding off if they fail more than 2 or 3 drug panels through treatment. Yes, a lot of people would try to abuse this idea but after A while they would all learn that the system would be extremely difficult to beat with random pill counts and drug panels bc only the people who actually are trying to get their life back together could pass those month after month. They could even make A profit in the long run by charging interest on the amount every patient had to end up borrowing. I would have happily paid them back with A high interest rate if they were willing to help me when you need it most in my life. Someone please do something, if I could come up with this idea in the 3 or 4 minutes it took to type this then the leaders of the best country in the world should be able to do something, heck trying to help any at all would be A great start. SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING!!!
