Teva Vs Actavis - Are They The Same?
(Newest replies first)
Updated
I’ve been taking half of .5 Teva clonazepam for 10+ years. When I refilled my prescription I got the same dose but Actavis brand. I don’t seem to feel the same I have slight headache , jittery and spacey Not sure if it’s because I’m a hypochondriac and creating this stress or is it because the actavis brand is that much different than Teva ?

I felt the exact same way when I switched. It took my body a few weeks to adjust. I had the headache , felt drowsy and felt anxious. Hang in there. Hope you feel better soon.

So did they just completely stop making the Teva brand? I recently got represcribed to Klonopin and my pharmacy now carry the Actavis brand and I feel as if they aren't quite as strong or something and they also make me super drowsy (which Klonopin has never done to me before) and also give me a headache. I don't know what I should do. Super annoyed!
Re: kathielee (# 7)
Agreed. I can’t believe how the brands can be that different. Everyone thought I was crazy saying I felt a difference between Teva and Actavis But there definitely is.
Thanks for your reply
Re: kathielee (# 6)
I contacted my doctor today to tell her that the generics they are giving me are no good and I need to take them 2 hours earlier than the time I took them before when I took the Teva brand. I guess I need to pay more for extra dose of these cheaper brands. Pharmaceuticals companies suck.
I have the same problem. I took the 1 mg.Teva for a long time. Now I only get Activa yellow and I feel like crap. The pharmacy does not understand. I can take Mylan though they are a bit better but not the same as Teva.
Re: Byrjun (# 3)
Are you still taking the name brand? How is it working for you? My doctor switched me to Diazepam 5mg (actually made by TEVA) and I only took a half of one and OMG ... NOT good for me. I felt like I was going to vomit for hours and also felt SO SLEEPY I could barely keep my eyes open, and it didn't take away the anxiety (chest tightness, shortness of breath). I am going back to my doctor after he is back in office after the New Year and he is going to write me to try the name brand Klonipin. I am super sensitive to medications and ingredients as well and I am even scared to try the name brand now. Just wanted to see how you were doing on it.
Re: Byrjun (# 3)
Thank you for responding. I’m just now feeling better. It took a couple of months to adjust. Still say Teva is better. If they started making it again I would switch back
Hope you feel better soon !!!
For me a few things help with my anxiety
1. Try to relax not stress out (not easy)
2. Keep positive. The mind is a powerful thing
3. Exercise
4. Clonazepam

You're not the only one who has had problems. I hope things are going a little better for you now. There's a theory that somehow the povidone k90 helped the medicine to last longer, almost like an XR version. Not sure if this is true, but I've seen it on other forums talking about how people are having trouble without the TEVA brand. I am currently on the name brand after trying Actavis, Solco, and Teva wafers. All made me sick in one way or another, but I am very very sensitive to medication and ingredients so it doesn't surprise me at all. I've only been on the brand name for one day but I still don't feel like I would if I had had the TEVA brand.
Re: Kevin (# 1)
Thank you for the information
Do you know why the lack of Povidone K90
Would possibly create this feeling ? What does this ingredient do ?
Hello Cp4499,
While the two brands do contain the same active ingredient it is possible that you are reacting to the differences in inactive ingredients. Below I have provided some info I sourced from the NIH.
Actavis contains these inactive ingredients
STARCH, CORN
LACTOSE MONOHYDRATE
MAGNESIUM STEARATE
MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE
D&C RED NO. 30
Teva contains the these inactive ingredients
STARCH, CORN
LACTOSE MONOHYDRATE
MAGNESIUM STEARATE
MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE
POVIDONE K90
D&C YELLOW NO. 10
It is certainly possible that you are reacting to the lack of povidone K90 or the change in colorings. If you continue to have these problems I would recommend that you discuss it with your primary care physician and see if they are willing to run some tests or provide you with an alternate solution.
I hope this helps.
