Teva No Longer Manufacturers Clonazepam
UpdatedTeva No Longer Manufacturers Clonazepam, and I personally feel it is a good thing.
Teva, in my opinion, is a low-quality company who actually manufacturers 70% of their products overseas, in cities and communities I don't think you would want to live in.
I find the change-over, in terms of most of my medications, including clonazapam 2mh hs to be more effective than before.
There are, of course, individual differences, but this is how it is for me personally.
Would anyone else care to comment?
From what I can see on their site, they still list it as being currently manufacturer. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability.
Where did you hear that they discontinued it? What company manufactures the ones you are receiving, now?
They still make it. I am on it. I have been on the TEVA brand for years. I was on Carico at Walgreens and then they carried Mylan which never worked. Went into withdrawal. TEVA did quit making the 1mg for a while but they are back making it. I have been on the 2mg since 2010.
I couldn't get Teva the past two weeks and I'm trying to adjust to a different generic, not fun at all. The new generic doesn't work as well for me, I'm taking 3 or 4 times as much (a low dose of 1/4 mg/day to begin with) and it doesn't leave me as protected. Not happy. I hope Teva returns, I had no problems.
I'm a mess without being on clonazepam.......what is the equivalent replacement?
Re: Ed (# 3)
I have checked all pharmacies in my area. Everyone has switched to the blue 1mg pill. After looking at both brands the blue pill is a cheaper brand a totally different make up with less ingredients.
I work in a pharmacy and our wholesaler has all strengths as being pulled. Note says manufacturers have discontinued this product. Only the dispersible tablets are available to order.
Is there any way to get TEVA brand clonazepam anymore? If so, how?
I just spoke with TEVA and was told they have discontinued making Clonazepam?!? I have been on this specific generic for over 10 years. I tried Mylan brand and it was awful!! I take this for anxiety and panic attacks. What are my other options?
Re: Verwon (# 1)
my pharmacy last week told me TEVA stopped with production of cloneazepam. I am not sure I have a good or better replacement. I'd like to know which one is closest and best.
Re: Eric (# 9)
TEVA aquired ACTIVIS and are no longer making their own TEVA brand of clonazepam. My CVS switched to the Mylan for a week and then back to TEVA and now that they have run out they are Using the ACTIVIS and much better
Re: skipper (# 10)
Are you saying the Activis is much better than TEVA brand? I am almost out of TEVA and am looking for other generic that is same or better than TEVA
Thank you
Re: Verwon (# 1)
From my pharmacy, as then confirmed by web research.
You are being given tabs still available.
Re: skipper (# 10)
Are you saying the Actavis is better than Teva? I've been taking Teva for over 10 years and was told by my pharmacy that they cannot order it. Kind of freaking out.
Activis is probably the closest thing to TEVA brand.
Do you think Teva will bring back Clonazepam......Have been taking it for nine years...I have a problem with generics, but never had a problem with the Teva brand...I only take a half of a mg. twice a day.......
Re: L (# 6)
Hi,
I take Clonazepam and it was working very well and my Cvs changed manufactures to the One company that still distributes it. Why are they discontinued? Does this mean only brand is going to be available?
The recent one hasn’t worked for me at all. I don’t know what to do. Publix carries North Star but never heard of it.
I’ve been taking the Northstar brand for about 3 weeks since Teva stopped manufacturing them. Teva is in a lot of trouble right now financially, their stocks are dropping big time which makes me scared cuz I also take Teva Seroquel. The Northstar has taken some adjusting to, you won’t notice until about a week cuz it’s such a long lasting drug but I was finding myself getting really angry and depressed. I honestly think the Northstar May be a bit stronger than Teva because I’m not having anxiety just very gloomy depression which could be due to its depressant properties. I’m gonna stick with it and try to break the pills in a way that makes one half smaller than the other. I’m prescribed for .5x3 but only take 2.5 pills so I just toss the other half in another container, have like 100 half pills of various sizes. Northstar works, it’s actually the same pill that Sandoz manufactured years ago.
Re: Matt (# 17)
You are having a bad reaction to the replacement. Ask for another manufacturer until you get it right.
Teva still apparently makes their 1 MG tablet,or there is still a significant unused supply which can be easily cut in 1/2.
I had the same experience.... within 5 days perseveration.
Re: Izzy (# 15)
Teva's is a generic for the brand, Klonopin. Ask for that, telling your doctor and insurance company, who already know or should, for the name brand, telling them none is effective.
Generics are cleared by FDA for +/- 24% of the active ingredient. So a change leaves nobody knowing how much you were getting and are now getting, and thus the change, along with the ingredients that make it a pill, which are different and interact with individuals differently.
Teva was caught bribing Russia and Mexico to get drugs into their countries, (India Times). 2 million$ fine, Teva has bought Actavis and quite a few other "generics", mind you distributed and manufactured are 2 different things completely, Actavis, Apotex, and Accord are all manu. in India! Most generics show an american address, but, are manufactured in India. Remember Puerto Rico has had no power grid, so no more generics from there for awhile, I believe the few last generics from there were shipped to the U.S., but, do not get generics made in Mexico, heard there have been quality control issues. Lack of quality generic drug manufacturers is wreaking havoc on us all, as I take clonazapam and have one script filled with 3 different manufacturers, Walgreens did not have 30 of the same brand and ordered Mylan 2x's and warehouse sent Accord and another generic brand. It's getting bad folks.

I just filled my prescription for Clonazepam (90 pills and that's all I get). I don't want no other kind. I tried the Blue 1mg by Qualitest (I think that's who makes them) and I was positive on a drug panel for TWO different kinds of benzodiazepines. I had never EVER had a positive drug panel for over 25 years. I was furious the lab report said Clonazepam and Alprazolam were in the pills. The doctor called the pharmacy and said TEVA ONLY! I have never had a problem since.
Re: Bababooie (# 105)
It is true that the FDA allows a 20% variation of the active ingredient. Not to mention the different inactive ingredients that can affect individuals very differently. In Pharmacology class they taught that the active ingredient in generics is exactly the same as the brand name 25 years ago. They are still teaching that to Pharmacology students. The 20% variation allowed by the FDA is not taught. I realize this is older, but it still applies.
Re: Kk instead (# 7)
I just got 75 1 mg Clonazepam by Teva yesterday. I have filled my Clonazepam at CVS for years I have never had a problem getting TEVA CLONAZEPAM at CVS. Now Walmart carries the blue ones because I had depression meds I had to fill and it was on their list of drugs for a set amount of money per month. I denied getting my Klonopin there and that was a while back few years matter of fact. Maybe it's where people are getting their meds and that's why they dont carry TEVA. Anyway I hope you find what your looking for. Have a great day.
This is an old thread but I have been on clonzapham or Klonopin since 1997. Fortunately, I'm down to 3-4 daily. I saw how much it effects the brain etc. Ext.short and long term memory. If severely effects your cognitive abilities. I must thank God. I kept praying to get off of it. I'm doing a slow taper. Anyone on this stuff knows how bad the withdrawls are. I've taken all brands including the brand. I always get Teva 1mg.I have really become aware how severely impaired benzos will do. I would get off of it asap under a Drs.supervision . Godspeed!Roxanne.
Re: Deb (# 4)
Get on Xanax bars that’s what I’m doing ask for the highest mg 2mg bars you can break it in 1/4 or half it comes scored into 0.5 so 4 things to make or if you dont ne d 2mg they make 0.5 Xanax even low as .25 they make also 1 mg. Also Valium sucked dont do that. Ativan(lorazepam) works but 1mg is equal to 0.5 Xanax and clonapn so if your on 1 mg of klonopon ask for 2mg cuz it’s equal that way. But Xanax (alprozolam is best for anxiety and panic attacks )
I’ve been taking Teva Clonazepam for over 25 years. The light green 1mg tab with 833 and a score line under it. Then Teva bought Actvis, I believe sometime in 2019 and they were making Clonazepam under the actvis name. Then Teva stopped and said they were bringing back their “original” formula for Clonazepam back sometime in 2020, if I recall. The “new Teva” 1mg is Still light green and has the 833 on back but no score line under 833. Its horrible! It’s not the same formula, even though Teva said it’s the “same inactive ingredients.” I tried taking the “new” Teva” but it threw me into an anxiety attack. I tried once more but it happened again along with a headache. I had to take some old original Teva’s to get me out of my attack. They had to make a change, either were they r getting the inactive ingredients or the amount they r putting in the new ones. They r NOT the same. I’ve called Teva 3 times and they r no help. I heard some horror stories about accord. I’m down to my last few old original ones and I don’t know what to do. I had some 2mg greenstone Xanax bars on hand and my dr. said to switch and try them. I took a quarter of one of the bars, to see if I had a reaction to the inactive ingredients. At first, it pretty much made me very sleepy but I had head pangs with it. It made me feel drugged and after 4-5 hrs I started to feel anxious with a headache. The greenstone Xanax made me feel more drugged than calm. I took Geneva Xanax back in the late 80’s and early 90’s with no problems, no druggie feeling. So, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I feel like these pharmaceutical companies only care about the money ??! It seems some people have different reactions to different inactive ingredients. If I knew this was going to be such an issue I would have rather tapered off the Clonazepam and just have the old originals in on hand when needed...PRN. This is going to be a nightmare!
Re: Joseph (# 103)
Just FYI: It’s not an urban myth- by FDA guidelines generic manufacturers can be within 20% +/- of the stated dosage & it will still be considered an acceptable generic to sell.
I broke my back over a decade ago & way back in the mid 2000s Ethex got in a lot of trouble with the FDA & got banned from producing oxycodone because they were putting up to 40-41mg of oxycodone in their 30mg Oxy IR pills. 36mg would have been the maximum amount they would’ve been able to put in their oxycodone pills while remaining within FDA guidelines on generics.
Re: Joseph (# 103)
Maybe it’s because you take 5 other drugs with it. How do you even tell what’s doing what, those probably overlap with Klonopin. When you take it alone you’ll notice a difference
Re: Suz (# 11)
I get .5 Klodopin. Made bye Mylan. Well these are made well. I only get 60 a month. At night I litterly take .5 as least as possible. I take it too rest and that's it
