Have some that is over a year old is it safe to take for a cough? ## Certain drugs like this should actually be okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over a year old. So it may still be effective, but not quite as potent. I also think it's difficult to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to try and avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately the only way to find out is to actually try it or get it lab tested. What are these? I have some capsules that are half yellow and half orange with an unusual looking X followed with 2416. Thank you ## This tablet contains Tetracycline 250 mg (NDC 0172-2416). According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. At worst, it may have lost a bit of potency, but the only way to find out precisely would be to have it lab tested. This means that taking a standard dose may not effectively wipe out an infection and could actually cause the development of drug resistant bacteria. It is supposed to be tetracyclene, but the bottle states that mylan 102 should be printed on each pill. ## Based on the description provided, I can confirm your yellow and black capsule to be Tetracycline hydrochloride (500 mg). I am going for a root canal on a tooth of mine tomorrow but I got an absyss on the tooth for which I went and requested a antibiotic and painkiller from the pharmacist. He gave me Betamox for the antibiotic and Lentogesic as the pain killer. I have had lentogesic before when i had my wisdoms out and thought nothing of it but have recently discovered that I am pregnant, what are the side effects and could I have harmed my baby in taking this? must i stop taking them? or should i finish my course of the antibiotic at least.
