Having abstained from coffee for several hours, and feeling a little tired, I took my first 20mg of temazepam and settled down with a book before attempting to doze off. I am WIDE awake. I found myself tossing and turning, stretching myself, humming various tunes, rolling on the bedroom floor. Is this supposed to be a soporific or an amphetamine by another name?

If you taken 20mg of temazepam for the first time ever and your wide awake and restless you didn't get your pills from doctor or you have been given the wrong medication by accident. You would be very nicely chilled out and in the land of dreams after a short period. I would definately go straight by to your doctor/pharmicist/dealer and complain

You do not happen to have fibromyalgia by any chance do you? Its just for many people with this condtion drugs work the opposite way to the way they should, why no-one knows, and I guess same can happen to anyone no matter if they suffer from anything other than insommia. Sounds as if you are one of them and need to see your doctor about something else to help you sleep

I was the exact same last night. It didnt make me relaxed at all. Going back to my doctor today so I can try something else. Valium (Diazepam Tablets) have worked best for me in the past.

I am up at midnight. I took 15mg of restoril/tamazepam at 9:00 and feel like I've taken amphetamines or several cups of coffee (I have not had coffee or caffeine since I gave it up 2 months ago). Interesting the other reply mentions fibromyalgia. I have pain, fatigue, almost all the fibromyalgia symptoms, but my doc refuses to send me to a fibromyalgia specialist because "fibro patients don't present with dizziness." except I presented with pain and fatigue and the dizziness is a result of stress as an effect of searching for a diagnosis for a few years and having every blood test come back normal. So now not only do I feel like crap, now I am wide awake and WIRED! Thanks, Restoril. Thanks, s***ty doctor of mine. I don't feel safe taking anything else for sleep now, so I guess I'll be up for a few more hours. I don't function well on no sleep. Under 8 hours of sleep and my pain/fatigue are horrific. Wish I'd never tried this med.

Temazepam didn't work for me either and I had the same as responses 1,4,5 and 6. Wide awake -even worse for having taken it. Ambien is fine with me but my doctor wanted me to try Temazepam. I will be requesting to go back to Ambien. Thank you all for posting, helped me know it's not just me.

I was given this stuff to. I hadn't taken anything for sleep prior aside from melatonin. I came to trying a tranquilizer after no luck with melatonin. I read up on the medication and was worried by how strong they make it seem. The prescription was only to use 3x a week. I tried my first dosage, even after reading all the side effects it came to my need to sleep trumping it all. I figured within 15-30 mins I would be off to dream land, boy was I wrong. This medication did absolutely nothing, no euphoric feeling, no tiredness, just nothing. So I can concur with the poster here that this stuff seemingly doesn't work on some people.

I haven't been able to sleep for 20 years given and tried everything from medications to therapy, think you were not given the right meds I still go to therapy on a monthly basis. I do have fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome. tested for sleep apnea. last med before restoril I tried was ambien, which by the way didn't do nothing for me but the restoril put me in dream world. I guess every person is different because I only get maybe 2-3 hours of restful sleep, not 7-8 like the normal amount should be. so after 20 years of trying everything I can tell you the meds you were given is wrong and it's not because you have fibromyalgia like some comments were if you had this restoril wouldn't work on these people. WRONG. so coming from someone like me not been able to sleep for years and having a few sleep disorders, I think restoril is a miracle for me. I would have questions about what was given to you.

I think since the gell eggs were recalled the chalk tablets are useless!.
I'm sure they have taken out at least one of the ingredients since the gellthix eggs were re-called and the tablets were introduced?.
I find mogadon/Nitrazapam which usually only comes in 5mg compaired to 10mg or even 20mg temazepam to be much preferred for me anyway???.
Mogadon all the waaayyy!!!!!!

I have used Ambien but it made me get up and eat so I switched to Temazepam 15MG about 2 years ago, now it isn't working, last 2 nights I spent walking around and moving from bed to bed and chair to chair, awful....I took a Xanax also, I finally went to sleep at 4:45 this AM and that has happen the last 2 nights. My Dr. has prescribed Lunesta but held up by my insurance company, so not sure what it will do if I can get it. Should I be taking the Xanax on a regular prescribed basis, gave this to me because I was going off Ultram, back pain, had withdrawal and anxiety, I don't know where to turn!!

Imovane works great for insomnia !!! Temazepam has a shorter life span and only gives you about 3-4 hours sleep

The temazepam is no longer a useful drug. It has been reformulated by Mallinckrodt pharma. The drug is now useless. They are the only company making the drug and they messed it up! Such idiots! How do you mess up a benzo?

Re: sleepless1 (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Would like to say no matter the dose for me it literally does nothing for me. I have never used any other drug except marijuana. No tolerance at all. It’s like my body doesn’t process it or something

The VA gave them to me and its like drinking coffee before going to bed. Having abstained from coffee for several hours, and feeling a little tired, I took my first 20mg of temazepam.

Temazepam does not come in 20 milligrams. Your best bet is to try asking your doctor for 7.5 milligrams x2. The 7.5 mg pills are the old novel 120. They are labeled novel 120 and are pink and white. They seem to work better than the new "brand name''.

According to what I understand of the FDA orange book, novel still has a patent on the 7.5 mg pill - won't last for long though.

I would also talk to your doctor if your nightmares are becoming more vivid. This is usually not a problem with Restoril. It's like Desyrel all over again. Desyrel used to be a square pill that was scored and could be broken in half to form 2 triangles. They replaced Desyrel with the "round trazodone''. generic trazodone gives me the most vivid and horrifying dreams I have ever had. I wake up in a sweat withing the hour squirrly as hell.

Never had a problem with the square desyril.

Another helpful tip: talk to your doctor about 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan), I have found it works much better than the synthetic meletonic agents.

Is this supposed to be a soporific or an amphetamine by another name?

Thank you for confirming my insanity!

Re: steve (# 31) Expand Referenced Message

The problem I have found with Temazepam is that you build up a tolerance very quickly. I was prescribed 20mg ‘jelly eggs’ which were a dream come true after suffering with insomnia for some time. Originally, 1x20mg on an empty stomach send me off for a nice long sleep (small amount of residual ‘hangover’ in the morning, but much better than the crushing feeling of not having slept all night). However, literally the third night the 20mg had no such effect. This progressed until after 6-7 days I had to take 80mg to help me sleep through the night. I have since stopped in fear of ‘overdosing’ in order to get a full nights sleep. Back to the drawing board.

restoril / temazepam used to work very well as a hypnotic/anoxylitic. I have been taking it for over 10 years and it worked like a charm. They changed the color of the pill and the pharmacist assured me that the active ingredient is the same regardless if the ``new'' pill was the color blue, yellow, or white. IMHO, a yellow pill is not the same as a blue red pill.

I have been so tired I asked my doc to prescribe DAW for several flurazepam (dalmane). The medication is made my mylan and it does not work at all. Don't waste your time...

I have started to take ambien again and it is working rather well. I get several hours of sleep (usually 3-4). I am guessing that they are concerned that GABA-A is too dangerous to activate with an agonist, it would seem like the Z-drugs are safer because the GABA-A PAMs ``...appear to bind to the GABA-A receptor in a way that does not cause a high degree of tolerance to their therapeutic actions ....'' from stahl.

I feel like I am being treated like a child drug addict. I live in the united states, and they have started a database for people that use dangerous drugs like benodiazepines so that they can pretend that they are addressing the ``opiate epidemic''.

I truly believe that our government is trying to pretend that responsible use of medication should be determined by legislators and not the doctor and patient. 70,000 people in the US have died in a single year from opiates. Is it possible that their way is the wrong way. They disgust me.

The VA gives out a lot of Placeboes, its happened to me several times like Ambient, one bottle would work, next bottle I got did nothing. I believe they do it so that you do not get addicted to certain medications, or thats how they experiment with patients. They are the Government so they can do what they want.
