Tapering Off Suboxone 8mg White 155
UpdatedMy message is for the person who was saying something about other companies not making suboxone because the first company has the rights to making it exclusively. While it is true for a period of I believe somewhere between 3 -7 years after it hits the market, suboxone has been around long enough that other companies can now make the same medicine and be in direct competition with the makers of the original suboxone. And there are several different generic suboxone makers now. It's big business and big money to these corporations that those of us dependent on the drug remain hooked just as we were our drug of choice.
I have started to taper down off suboxone now, and hope to be off it by oct, 2013. I'm not knocking it for use as a substitute for other hard opioids, it's just I personally have taken too long getting my own butt in gear and doing what I needed to do to get off the drug. It's a great drug but you have to remember not to use it as a crutch for very long because you will realize one day you're hooked on it. So get in with a doctor that has a plan of detoxing you off within a year and get into counseling and therapy as much as you can. Use AA, NA, any of those programs to help you get clean and learn a clean life fast so you can get off suboxone ASAP, cause it will only feel like a miracle drug for so long (every one is different).
When it comes to tolerance of suboxone, just like our drugs of choice were, after a while even the really good medicine wasn't good enough to avoid taking more and more. So at some point you will start to crave suboxone. If anyone here is new to the program of suboxone, my advice is get serious really fast and work on your self and start to decline your dependence on suboxone as soon as the second week of treatment. I believe those who are dependent with a few years under their belt need 3 subs to start, but should be down to 2 by the start of the 2nd month, and go down by quarter pieces only (no more). If you take half a tab or strip away at one time I have found withdrawal sets in. Not severe, but its enough to make you wish you hadn't done that. So go down by quarters, your suboxone levels will settle down after 7 days, so technically you could go down a quarter after the end of the 7th day. Your body adjust to the new level in that amount of time. Hust some friendly advice from someone who knows a little about suboxone.

Hi, John! How are you? Thank you for your helpful post.
A name brand drug patent actually has a 20 year duration, before it can be produced as a generic. Usually, the count starts about 2 years prior to the medication actually being released on the market, due to the fact that patents are granted once a drug has reached a certain stage in the preliminary approval process. This means that in most cases once a drug hits the public market to be prescribed by someone's doctor, there is an 18 year exclusivity granted to the original manufacturer, before generics can start being sold.
I believe the shorter exclusivity duration that you've learned about was in reference to that granted to certain generic manufacturers. There are cases where some can be granted a certain period of time to have the only generic that's available on the market, this is usually for a period of 5 years.
And the caveat is that extensions are sometimes granted in both cases.
And the tapering of Suboxone should not be done so rapidly, without the approval of someone's doctor. It is normally tapered very slowly, because doing so too rapidly caused many addiction relapses.
