Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 5)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

CM: And, "liar", sorry, but there is NO WAY a person with that high of a habit (20 percs a day) is going to be able to detox off of them using ONLY TWO STRIPS of Suboxone, without going through some pretty substantial withdrawal. I suspect you aren't even an opiate user, and you known NOTHING about what you speak. If you actually believe that hogwash, I have some lovely oceanfront property in Nebraska I'd like to sell you. Dirt cheap!

CM: Actually, unlike so many on here, I DO know what I am talking about, and I really don't care what you think about it. These drugs are DESIGNED to work that way. I suspect you are likely just a liar.

Michael don't listen to that guy that thinks he knows everything but obviously has trouble processing information. Naloxone fills up and blocks your receptors so nothing gets by it and that's why it throws you into withdrawal. You can read more here and here's a little clip that "Einstein" posted trying to tell you just the opposite...

"...Naloxone works as an opiate antagonist. It will fill the opiate receptors in the brain and it won’t let other drugs activate these receptors, but unlike buprenorphine (which fills and activates receptors) naloxone will not activate opiate receptors. With all receptors full but not activated, a person feels immediate and intense withdrawal pains."

Always call your doctor - if you are uncomfortable calling your doctor then call a pharmacist, any pharmacist will help you. Stop giving out bad advice. Just unbelievable. Just mad at the *****s.

For the record my response is to somebody posting this below and it is so untrue and should not mislead people asking a simple question

"REAL: Then YOU are some sort of modern medical miracle and should be studied by medical researchers, because that is the most incredible story I have EVER heard in all the years I have been an addict, been WORKING with addicts, and been doing research. I doubt it highly. 20 pills a day with only two strips. Right"

Hi~
Why do people see that it is okay to put others down. They're asking questions help them don't put them down. That is BS one day you may be in their shoes. If you're not already. SHAME!!!!

There are plenty of variables involved and to consider, so it's not an absolute and you're soooooo wrong. I've done both directions. Never gotten sick either time. You really shouldn't mislead people As you obviously have no idea what you're talking about

Hi~
Sometimes you can get a severe migraine from Percocet. It's called a narcotic migraine. They are horrible. You need to contact your doctor immediately about the subs they have a lot of dangerous side effects. Call a pharmacist if you're not comfortable in calling your doctor.
Good luck.
Please, at least give us the respect of letting us know how you are doing. People will ask questions and never let us know the outcome. We will be waiting. Best wishes.

Just bc you are or claim to be a doctor doesn't mean all your information is correct. I have the upmost respect for physicians but y'all get things wrong quite often. If doctors all gave the correct diagnosis, treatment method, or information to their patients then why are yall spending such large sums of money on medical malpractice insurance? I can honestly say from much personal experience that iv'ing suboxane(not Subutex) that contains naloxone as a iv'ing deterrent is either a scare tactic to make people who do IV afraid that if administered via that method will automatically be thrown into precipitated withdrawal's or it just doesnt work that way on me personally. I have done both Suboxone strips and pills intravenously and never been thrown into precipitated withdrawal once thr majority of opiates have cleared my system I have experience PWD's from dosing with Suboxone too soon after taking Oxy. i don't know if it's just different for me or if those particular "side effect" have just been made up by those who make and distribute Suboxone to make potential intravenous users believe if administered via IV it will result in the most agonizing withdrawls anyone could ever imagine?

CM: Yes, if you took Subutex 8 to 12 hours after the Vicodin, I'm sure you were fine. If you took the Subutex an hour or 2 after the Vicodin, it ABSOLUTELY have been a different story. And then taking Vicodin AFTER the Subutex wouldn't be a problem. This isn't an "everyone is different" situation, this is a medical, chemical fact.

That is so wrong. I've taken both the same day taking my Vicodin for my extreme pain that day and then decided I didn't want to switch to subutex. absolutely no prec. WD's. People may have this experience but NOT EVERYONE will have that experience - it is just not so. For me I had absolutely no issue whatsoever, took my vicodin all day long one day, according to Script, which was four for the day and my last one being taken approximately 8 PM. I woke up in the morning, took the subutex, no problems whatsoever, Took one Vicodin around lunch, still no problem. People really shouldn't try to tell others something I've tried and true when it's not so. For me I'm just trying to wean off the Vicodin . I've been taking 4 a day for too long and they don't have the effect they used to in helping with my pain , and I'm not about to double my doses. I want to just stop the taking of them every day and without subutex, would be sick as a dog with regular old Vicodin withdrawals

You won't get sick if you take percs with subutex. Although you won't feel any effects from the percs. Subutex is very powerfully and even though it's not an opioid your tolerance for them is high. Iv been on 2 - 8 mg subs per day for 7 years. I had 2 teeth pulled a while back and was prescribed 10/325 norcos. I took 3 norcs as soon as I picked up my script (what can I say, I'm an addict) about an hour after taking a subutex and slept the rest of the day. It probably wasn't the smartest thing to do but it definitely didn't make me sick.

I just did that the other day. Took a small dose of subutex in the morning. I do not find the subutex deals with my pain as much as Vicodin. But, I wanted to lower my dosage of Vicodin without getting sick, so I'm going the Subutex route. I was in too much pain that day so my lunch, I snapped and said, to heck with it; I'm taking a Vicodin. I did, it helped & I did not get sick. I continued my regular schedule of Vicodin for the day and the next morning started back with Subutex. I have not felt sick at all. The subutex is like a dream pill for me with blocking all withdrawal symptoms from the Vicodin. I've stopped Vicodin in the past and within 24 hours, the withdrawals were horrible. For me, the worst is the RLS a/k/a restless leg syndrome at night. Otherwise, just a bad flu feeling with horrible chills. With the the subutex, I had absolutely no withdrawal symptoms. But, for purposes of your question, I took them both the same day and I did not get sick at all.

Anyone wanting to quit pain pills. It's real easy if you really want to quit. Find a suboxone strip and cut it into about 12 pieces. Take tiny one before bed and one in morning. Make pieces smaller and smaller. I went from 20 tens a day to nothing with no withdrawal in only 2 full strips

if you take the percocet a while AFTER the sub, it shouldn't send you into wd. But that being said, you probably won't feel the effects of the percocet. If you do feel it, it will be greatly diminished.

Now if you did the other way around, took the percocet first and then the sub, then it could send you into precipitated withdrawal. The bupe in the subutex would literally rip out the percocet molecules from your opioid receptors and replace it with its own. (This is because of its high binding affinity). It wants to bind to that opioid receptor so strongly that it'll displace whatever's currently there.

MICHAEL: Starting off on either Subutex OR Suboxone is the same thing. I walked into the doctors office and was given Suboxone the same day with no problems. Neither drug is going to put you into "rapid detox", unless you take them too soon after full-agonist opioids like vicodin or methadone. Then EITHER DRUG will be a problem, because it is the BUPE that can be the problem, NOT the Naloxone. The Naloxone is only in there to keep people from administering the Bupe intravenously, as it is BARELY absorbed when taken under the tongue. Whether the Naloxone is in there or not really doesn't matter unless you are trying to inj. it.
