Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 2) (Top voted first)

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

So I think I understand I have been taking 6 10mg percs a day for the last 3 years I am not getting the same relief as I had in the past and don't like the addictive feelings ! I have subutex and I shouldn't have any problems trying a quarter in the morning correct?

Speaking of WDs. My doc had me on (started with percocet and working up over time) 80mg oxycontin, 6 per day for over 5 years. He took me off them cold turkey. He said i would have flu like symptoms for a couple days... What a D*** Head!!! Over the next year i lost my job, my home and my wife. About all i had left was my pickup... and it had bald tires and expired registration. That was a long time ago. Luckily a friend knew a friend that gave me a few subs and pointed me to a good inpatient rehab. And without the combination of the friend, the subs and the 28 days of rehab who knows how it would have ended. My point being that doctors are often clueless as to the road they are starting you down when they prescribe opiods. Why did the FDA approve such a dangerouse drug. I truly wish i was still living the life i lived before opioids.

Your doctor is wrong...it is absolutely absurd to be on both medication. Subutex will fill your opioids receptors and there will be no where for the Percocet to attach itself. What I don't understand is why are you taking subutex if your going to continue to use opioids.

Alright, I'm clearing this up right now! How can Bupe (subutex) knock off previous short acting opiates from your receptors when Bupe has been used for a long time in other countries for severe pain? just like every other opiate? Bupe has been around for years, LONG before it was approved by the FDA to combat opioid addiction. Only difference between Buperenorphine and most other opiates is it's life. Naloxone or the brand name Narcan is what knocks other opiates from your receptors. Suboxone is Bupe AND Naloxone. Naloxone ALONE is used for opiate overdose, they use this drug a lot for H addicts. It automatically counteracts the effects of opiates to bring the person out of an overdose. When Suboxone is used daily, the Naloxone coats the receptors preventing other opiates from getting in, rendering its effects in the brain. You really can only get so high from the Bupe in Suboxone before you reach what many reffer to as the 'ceiling effect'. SUBUTEX does not contain Naloxone, therefore you should be fine. Subutex is also prescribed to pregnant women so when they do go into labor, if needed, can take doctor ordered pain meds. When in outpatient therapy, a man in my group had to be put in the hospital for surgery on his knee. A week before his surgery, was switched from Suboxone to Subutex so he would be able to take pain meds and may also feel its effects. As of taking an opiate BEFORE taking Subutex, I have done this NUMEROUS times and nothing bad has ever happened to me, nor have I had any reason to believe this to be true. Take care!

Subutex is not a blocker naloxon is the blocker in suboxone subutex will intensify any other opiate pain killer.

I have 2 roxicodone 30's and 2 of 80's I have been on the subutex not subito new treatment a few months and I am stressed in a lot of pain with my hips dislocated, I really want to take the pain pills but I am scared I will waste them and not feel them, the most I take a day is 8mg of Subutex last dose was yesterday......am I gonna waste them and am I better off insufflating the roxi's? I am hurting bad...... thanks please no mean answers the shot is all confusing to me one person says one thing and then another says something opposite.......

Subutex is not the same as suboxone. My doctor an actual doctor including the pharmacist both told me that you can take subutex without the w/d issue that suboxone will put you through. I know from my own experience that it's ok to take subutex less then 24 hours since my last opiate. I get so irritated by comments that people don't know what they are talking about.

I am asking myself the same thing but for different reasons. I have been taking a quarter to a half of subutex for 2 days and although I can understand people's views and answers, I really just want to know a simple , straight answers for this,
Even though I have take subutex up to a half of a 8 mil for almost two full days now , can I take hydrocodeine , opoids, without going into withdrawals AND feeL the opoids ?

I have been on subutex for years now. Recently, I got new insurance and they refused to cover my script. I filed an appeal and paid out of pocket for an amount of subutex I could afford. While I waited for the appeal, I ran out of subutex and took some Percocet to avoid getting sick. I didn't feel the effects from it obviously because I still had subutex in my system and it blocks the receptors in the brain that allow a person to feel the effects like a non-subutex user would. - but it did keep me from going through withdrawal. I finally got my prescription of subutex filled. I had been on the percs for a few days, taking maybe 20mg or so per day. I waited a few hours after my last dose of perc to take one of the 2mg subutex. I felt absolutely fine. I was a little worried that it would cause PAWs... But I assumed since I had been on subutex for so long that it was still on the receptors somewhat. I don't recommend mixing drugs like this to anyone... However I wanted to share my story in case anyone else out there is going through what I did with their meds. I can't wait to be medication free again!

Taking a Percocet after taking subutex (buprenorphine) will NOT send you into withdrawals! I've had to take it for additional pain. It doesn't "stick" to your receptors that well but will give some added relief. No, you won't get a "buzz" if you are taking both. It's going from strictly Percocet to suboxone that will send you into withdrawals. Subutex and suboxone are NOT the same drug! Suboxone has Naloxone in it to reverse any other opiates on your receptors. Some people here (who either may not know what they're talking about or are trying to scare people-either of which I find reprehensible) don't know what they're talking about. If you don't believe me ask a trusted pharmacist!!

So I do not have to wait to be in moderate withdrawal from my percocets to start subutex? I currently had 2 back surgeries and have been taking 60 mgs. of percocets, I'm ready to start subutex and get off the percocets...can I just switch from percocets to subutex anytime?? Thank you

I've heard that the effects of narcan in Suboxone are very limited and that it is only efficent when the pill is liquified and IV'd. I've been on Subutex for over a year (opiate dependance problem) and it has worked wonders for me. Although, I ran out a bit early two days ago and a friend gave me a few Percoset to offset the withdrawals (if any, didn't expierence much. anxiousness- being in my head the most) I took the last one at about 11 AM today. it's 4:48 PM right now and I just got my Subutex script filled. Took my full 4 mg dose and I am not expierencing any pre anticipated withdrawals.. just feeling much better since being off of it for a few days. I don't know what the case is for others, everyone is different, but it didn't give me any negative side effects. sometimes i think it's just something they say to scare addicts.. good luck!

Ok, let me clarify this for everyone. I read all kinds of diluted information on threads like these all the time. Buprenorphine (subutex) is an opiate agonist and antagonist. I have been a paramedic for 5 years and I used to take a high dose of subutex. Here is the deal... taking subutex and a painkiller at the same time, one will cancel the other out. You will not go into withdrawl. The short acting opioid will have a sedative affect if anything. For another opioid to be effective at all while on subutex, a larger dose is all that isnecessary. I do not suggest taking both at the same time. Stagger them. The opioid will not be extremely effective but it wont make you withdrawl. I know this from both first hand experience and treating patients.

u r correct!i was prescribed 60mg of Roxicodone for years then stopped and went to subutex,12mg a day..the subutex has no opiate blocker!!it occupies the opiate receptors,suboxone does the same but blocks any opiate after taking it!!u can take a subutex and 5 hours later take a roxi and feel the pain meds working,most of these post are from weekend warriors who don't have to take meds for years.but if your on subutex or suboxone the point is to get off the pain meds..if your in terrible pain u can take a pain med after subutex but not after suboxone!

subutex plus opiates are OK and opiates will function exactly how there supposed to.. most addicts try to get subutexd in stead of suboxen because the opiate blocker is not in subutex, meaning u can get feelings from pain pills while on subutex.. (my source i am and ER doctor.. people who say they went into withdraws are prob jus tellin u that to scare u.. but with suboxone and opiates some people say it makes them feel like s***. but subutex is a drug used for people allergic to naloxone (the opiate blocker) so thre for the opiate blocker is not in it.. everyone figure out your facts first.. u may not feel high because if u been taking bupe for a while it is going to up your tolerence to opiates.. just want to give people the correct information

I have taken suboxone and subutex. While taking suboxone you shouldnt take other opiods while on suboxone cause it will put you in full withdrawal. But if its subutex your takeing also taking percocet is fine. It might take a little more percocet to have an effect but it would still work. I hope this helps.
