Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 26) (Top voted first)

Updated

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

LMFAO Dramatic much? The Dr. Is having his licence pulled? Really? Ummm Im Pretty sure it takes a lot more than that to pull a Dr.'s Licence. Ur a funny Dude. But Just because U type this nonsense doesn't make it true! . Theres so many of us with our own real life experiences with this subutex and opiates not causing withdrawls than theres U a "Google Doctor" who has nothing else to do but Troll. So Have a seat and stop confusing people that need serious sound advice. Its not always about someone trying to abuse something! SMH

KIM: I am ALSO talking about SUBUTEX, not SUBOXONE. If you took Oxycodone AFTER taking Subutex, you wouldn't go into precipitated withdrawals. You can think I'm "talking crap" all you want to, but you are wrong. Precips would happen if you took the Subutex TOO SOON AFTER taking the Oxys, which is the OPPOSITE of what you said. So calm down already. Talk about DRAMATIC!! I'm not "researching in the wrong place" and I am also working with the leading Addiction Doctor in my area. Think what you want, I really don't care. I know my info is sound. I just helped someone through Precips from taking SUBUTEX too soon AFTER the opioids. Not the other way around. Did you see that? Can you READ? SUBUTEX. You have your information backwards, and you want to dispute known science, two different MDs who are also Addiction Specialists, two ADDITIONAL medical researchers, and myself, who has been on Subutex and Suboxone, Methadone, plus being an opioid addict myself for 30 years. You are correct; if you take Subutex and then take Oxys AFTERWARD, you will not go into Precips. I never said otherwise. Maybe you could take a reading comprehension class at your local junior college, because you seem to be struggling.

i realize these posts are old but GEEEEZ, were these posts from an alternate universe out there somewhere & these posts erroneously ended up in the 'real' world instead of the 'bizarro' world where they belong? it makes absolutely zero sense to me that any physician would prescribe both percocet and subutex to the same person to take at the same time. why were you prescribed the percocet? i can only assume for pain. so then why would you be prescribed subutex? certainly not for pain, so then what for? I am always receptive to enlightenment.

Kim,
May I submitt for your consideration that the opiate/opioid administered to you in conjunction with subutex was a placebo since the active ingredient in subutex WILL ALWAYS initiate precipitated withdrawal syndrome. The presence of NALAXONE has zero efficacy UNLESS used intravenously.I may not agree with the tenor or tone that some exhibit on this forum in name of education but kkh is 100% accurate on This subject.

DANI: I just sent you a big ol post, answering the questions you asked me. Hope you see it. Love your answer here though. It is amazing how many people are putting substances into their bodies, and they have NO CLUE how these substances work.

INTHENAMEOFMEDICINE: Thank you. Not only is this "Kim" person completely wrong, apparently she had to get REALLY nasty about it. Nothing like having someone tell you "what's up" in no uncertain terms, and be just completely misinformed about the whole thing. I will assume she took her Subutex in the a.m., and then took the full agonist opioids later, which would NOT bring on precipitated withdrawals. So she's getting completely worked up over something that wasn't even the issue! Hilarious. But if I had a nickel for everyone who thought the problem was the Naloxone rather than the Bupe itself, I could have retired long ago.

Once more people; it is the BUPRENORPHINE ITESELF that is the "blocker" which will bring on precipitated withdrawals, whether there is Naloxone in it or not. Naloxone, when taken sublingually has less than 10% bioavailability (something like 5 or 6%) and is ONLY in Suboxone to keep people from taking it intravenously. Taking full agonist opioids soon AFTER taking Bupe will not cause precipitated withdrawals. Taking the BUPE too soon AFTER taking the opioids WILL.

Everyone clear? Thanks :)

Wb1: No, you can NOT take buprenorphine with "other narcotics". You are dispensing bad advice and mis-information. And no, taking naloxone orally will not relieve constipation (unless you are talking about the diarrhea that accompanies withdrawal), but taking methylnaloxone will relieve constipation without withdrawal symptoms, because it can not cross the blood-brain barrier the way naloxone can, and only works on the opioid receptors in the gut. AND NO, you are not getting "withdrawal from the naloxone" in Suboxone. It is ONLY in there to keep people from taking it intravenously. The bioavailability of naloxone when taken under the tongue is less than 10%, but is 100% bioavailable when inj. IT IS THE BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF THAT CAUSES WITHDRAWAL.

It's amazing how much bad information you were able to cram into that short comment. May I suggest that it is YOU who could use more "education".

JEREMIAH: There is no "wrong kind of Subutex"...there is SUBUTEX, and there is SUBOXONE. They are BOTH, as you put it, "blockers". Taking full agonist opioids with EITHER ONE is a bad idea. Ugh, more mis-information? We don't need!!!

LAGUNAMAMA: I would wait at least 24 hours. 24 to 36 hours to be safe. Then I would start with a small amount of the Bupe, wait about 30 min., see how you feel...then take a little more. I don't know how much you are planning to take, but I wouldn't do more than one or two milligrams at a time until you see how you adjust. Good luck!

PHARMACIST: You are just plain WRONG. Absolutely, 100% wrong. The Naloxone in Suboxone is only in there to keep people from injecting the Bupe. Naloxone is less than 10% bioavailable when done sublingually. IT IS THE BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF that puts you in withdrawal, because it is a partial opioid antagonist. You are dispensing incorrect information. I PERSONALLY went through Precipitated Withdrawals from SUBUTEX, not SUBOXONE. (I am allergic to Naloxone, and was on Subutex for years) And I just helped someone else get through precips from Subutex as well. You are wrong, plain and simple, and if you are REALLY a pharmacist, you should friggin KNOW BETTER.

JOHNNYD: Unless you want to risk going thru one of the worst experiences of your life, I would wait. A good rule of thumb is 24 hours when talking about Subutex and H (which is what I have the most PERSONAL experience with) If you absolutely can not wait that long, what you at least need to do is wait until you are in LEGIT WITHDRAWAL. It depends on how long it takes for that H to get out of you, and THAT depends on how much you did, and the quality of it. You are obviously going to do what you want, but I do know what I am talking about here. People mistakenly think that it is the Naloxone that causes withdrawal, but 90% of it is the BUPE ITSELF. I would hate to see some go thru that horrible experience because they didn't wait long enough.

I used to do the "back and forth" with H and Subs, and it finally just got too ridiculous. Waiting until I was "sick enough" to start my Subs again became a joke. See, this is what Bupe is DESIGNED to do. Subutex is for people who REALLY want to stop using. If you want a break from the chaos, but you still want to be able to use H once in a while? You are better off on Methadone. No judgment whatsoever, I am of course also an addict. But these are the facts.

NIKKIR: You need to be in active withdrawal before taking the Suboxone or you risk going into Precipitated Withdrawals.

Here is the COWS Scale. It is suggested you have a total of 10 or more on the Scale before starting up the Subs again.

ROLLTIDE68: Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. It doesn't "depend on your system", this is basic chemistry, and this is how the drug is SUPPOSED to work. I'm calling BS on your comment. You are either taking VERY LOW DOSES of both the opioids and the Suboxone, you are waiting longer than you THINK you are, you are taking the opioids AFTER the Suboxone, which would not throw you into withdrawals, or you are just lying. Because taking Suboxone too soon AFTER full agonist opioids can and will make you experience Precipitated Withdrawals. Those are just plain FACTS. A person's "system" isn't going to change that.

KATIE: Here we go again. No, you are WRONG. It isn't the Naloxone that causes precipitated withdrawals, it is the BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF. Whether or not there is Naloxone in there does not matter. Please do more research before posting information than can be dangerous to someone. You clearly don't understand how this drug works.

ONE MORE TIME, PEOPLE: It is the BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF that can and will cause precipitated withdrawals when used too soon after full-agonist opioids. Naloxone is less than 10 percent (possibly even less than 5 percent) bioavailable when taken sublingually.

Naloxone is ONLY in Subuxone to keep people from taking it intravenously, where it is of course 100% bioavailable. Subutex AND Suboxone can and will cause precipitated withdrawals, as it is the BUPE ITSELF that causes the problems.

KATIE: WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

Please refrain from posting information when you actually have no idea how a drug works. If someone actually takes your bad advice, they can end up in a really bad way.

Hello all , hello kkh as I read posts on the sub thread I am baffled. All this I take my Roxy's or perc's or what ever before and after and even insanely during taking my Suboxone, Subutex, buvinail, or zubsolv , I am just baffled at this it's like taking an amphetamine for weight loss and then going to gnc and getting some pro weight gainer 5000 . Point is it's counter productive, yes, different people get small differences in side effects, but; it's a plain simple fact naloxone blocks , it's to deter intravenous abuse, the bupe is what lays the precipitated withdraw on ya , by no means should you take any recovery information from an individual who combines full and partial agonist and antagonist opioids , mat medications are plain and simply not engineered to be taken with other opiates, hence the opiate replacement therapy duh. I've made this mistake , I paid dearly. My OPINION is if an individual has done this and not experienced precipitated withdraw ...You dodged the bullet, thankfully. I'm not a Dr , not a pharmacist, don't have a PhD in anything. But I am experienced in addiction and recovery per my life . Kkh is correct as are several others I would advise that their information be listened to , or one day when you roll the dice ,per say, with combining a bupe based drug with an opiate you just might find out the hard way. Luv you all good luck to everyone and just a reminder please if ya don't believe me kkh, or the others simply look up Suboxone, Subutex buvinail or zubsolv and call the facts hotline and just ask

STARplayer: Can you explain what "tec" is? If you are referring to Subutex, yes waiting a day to start your Subs after taking Percocet, you would be fine since Percocet is fairly short acting.

SICKOFTHELIES: You are completely and totally WRONG. Whether or not there is Naloxone in the Bupe does NOT matter. It is the Bupe itself that causes withdrawals. I have been there personally (I was on SUBUTEX, not SUBOXONE) and I recently helped someone else through precipitated withdrawals from taking Subutex too soon after opioids. This is how this drug (Bupe) is DESIGNED to work. So, again, you are 100% completely and totally mistaken.

When you say that you "may not have gotten the full effect of the opioids"? That tells me that you were likely taking the opioids AFTER the Subutex, which would NOT have thrown you into withdrawals. But if you take the Subutex too soon AFTER the opioids? You can and WILL go into withdrawals. You saying that mixing Subutex and opioids will "NEVER PUT U IN WITHDRAWALS" is 100%, total, full-on, BULL****.

YOU ARE WRONG.

Please stop dispensing bad advice and mis-information. Someone might actually think you know what you are talking about, take your bad advice, and go into a BAD RATTLE.

Again, please, NO ONE listen to this "Sick of the Lies" person. Because what he/she is posting IS lies. Listen to this person, and you may regret it, big time.

JAMES: Hey James. Yes, YET AGAIN, we have people taking medication, and they have NO CLUE how the medication works. I sincerely hope no one listens to these so-called "experts" because they will regret it.
