Taking Suboxone While Pregnant
(Newest replies first)

I started taking suboxone in early June. 8mg/2mg strips. 1 1/2 a day. I didn't find out I was pregnant till around 14 weeks. That's a completely different story but luckily baby is safe due to being on birth control for about 7 weeks of me not knowing yet. Anyway I wanted to get off the subs so I left message after message for my OB and heard nothing back. I finally went in for my 18 week ultrasound. When I asked about OB about what was going on he seemed very confused. He has known about the suboxone but had no clue about me wanting to get off the med because the nurse never gave the messages to him. He advised me to stay on it for the safety of the baby. He said chances are he won't have withdrawals after birth but just incase it is easier for him to treat outside the womb then inside. He doesn't even want me to taper off. By that time I had missed my appt with sub doctor because I didn't have the money to pay for appt. So my OB prescribed me a months worth and his nurse is looking for one that will take my insurance or won't charge so much. They assured me that if baby does have withdrawals CPS will not get involved. I'm just needing advice from other mamas who have gone through this. Was baby okay at birth or did they withdrawal? If so, did everything turn out okay?
Thank you

Disclaimer; AS a technologist and not a RPh, I suggest you seek your fully qualified professional. The use of some Rx's are safe true. This is not advise. Common sense dictates that before you use or discontinue ANY type of substance whatever it can possibly cause harm to your unborn fetus MUST be cleared by your caregiver.
Hello, Kendra! How are you? Congratulations on the baby! :-)
Actually, the preferred medication during pregnancy is Subutex, since it doesn't contain the Naloxone that is in Suboxone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Your doctor might not be aware of this, if they aren't familiar with such treatment, so you may want to let them know, so they can look into it or refer you to a treatment specialist.

Can anyone that's taken it while pregnant chime in?
