Taking Small Suboxone Doses After Stopping Oxycodone (Page 2)

I took my last Oxycodone on Saturday. I've been taking 30 mg for 5 years. How long would withdrawals last if I take tiny pieces of 8 mg Suboxone? How long will I need to do this so that I don't get sick? Thanks
Re: Stefany (# 3)
I was warned by two people that I know that taking suboxone in place of, say hydrocodone/acetaminophen is just replacing one issue for another issue. I want to stop taking the hydrocodone/acetaminophen 7.5 but when I try to titrate down from the 4 per day that I am prescribed I can get down to 2 per day for about 1-2 weeks and can get no further without feeling really uncomfortable. This is the only thing that I have not been able to stop on my own. You are correct. When you replace any other opioid with another opioid you are just trading either dependence or addictions. If I can find out a complete answer I will respond back.
Here is my feedback:
No matter what you are taking, your doctor should give you a medication that is one step down from the drugs you were taking. For example if you were taking oxycotin, your doctor should give you hydroconone so you won't go through horrible withdrawl symptoms so you don't end up in the hospital. If you are taking hydrodocone your doc should give you percocet, and so on.

I have been advised by two close friends who have taken Suboxone and they advised me to try to titrate down off of my opioids first because just stop taking opioids and start taking Suboxone is like replacing one addiction for another addiction. You come to a state where you are no longer addicted to opioids but you become addicted to Suboxone. What is your feed back?
Thanks for getting back to me. I need the advice.
Hi. How long do I have to take subs before I am ok? Started with little pieces of an 8mg sub. Been on oxys years. I don't want to get addicted to these subs too. I'm only taking these not to get sick from the oxys. Thanks.

Hi, I just want to share that this All has to do with the FDA and it's new war on opioids!! Letters have gone out & conferences are happening now to try and educate them to see it their way!! And now all Drs and clinics, even our own veterans are being denied pain medication/management they truly need!! I'm witnessing it all around, a 77 year old woman cold turkey, taken off what she's needed for years, and she was in very bad health, many back surgeries and rod in the back, just because the FDA was coming down on Pain Mgt he dropped her & others. She couldn't live with pain, and committed suicide!!! My heart is still hurting for her!! I'm in recovery. I've been in several rehabs, and they didn't have subutex or suboxone!! The 1st one I was put on methadone because of heroin. But not the others, I went thru hell. I've had 8 ortho surgeries since 2013, so I have to take pain meds, I'm very careful, when my pain starts to ease Dr starts withdrawing slow. But when he takes me completely off, I go to my primary and he helps with a small amount of just buprenorphine, 2 mg. I start with half of 1, and usually I feel good again after only 9 or 10. It depends on how much you want it!!!
Hello,
If you are going to stop taking the oxy's and you want to start subs I guess that is what Box is. I have never heard of the term. LOL. Please wean down on the oxy's and make sure you are sick as hell and then try little amounts of subs. Subutex and Suboxone both have pain killer properties. They attach themselves to the same receptors the oxy's do, so if you take them too soon they fight each other and you get Precipitative Withdrawal. These drugs are highly addictive. I have kicked methadone pills, heroin and have tried to get off subs 3 times. Impatient. They almost killed me. Just remember, less is more. I have been on a high dose when they first came on the scene but now am on 10 mgs. I have had every brand they make. I never noticed a difference but people will argue that point. Good luck to us all. Thank God I have a great Doctor.
Don't do it very long week at most cuz box are way more addictive. There is no way you can really stop taking that strong of a pain killer for 5 yes an not be sick but it only last 1-2 weeks just sprinkle in a little bit of box every other day or something and you should be okay in a week or two but whatever you do don't get addicted to box it's way worse than what you were on

Hello, Does Subutex help control pain? What is the benefit in changing from oxy to Subutex if you still have pain? I have been on 7.5 for many years and it controls my pain very well. I have recently left my long time pain management Dr for a new rheumatologist because my PM Dr. wanted all his patients to get on Subutex and go to his rehab clinic. ( very expensive) I was with them for 14 years and never abused my medication and in fact had lessoned the does over the years. I became very suspicious and left the practice. Is this now the new scam? Sorry, Im just so conditioned to be skeptical of these Dr's using us.
I've been on Suboxone going on 6 years..I hate it , it feels harder to quit then the pills I was addicted to.. I'm taking 2 of the 8-2 mg daily..I was on 120 a month now I'm on 60 a month, I've tried quitting but it's super hard, the restless leg and the flu feeling of you don't have anything in ur system.. Just be careful they are just as addicting as pain killers

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. So far so good. I get my next script on Saturday of the oxys. I hate that it's getting to be too much worrying every month. It's scary and my nerves are shot. Idk but thank you for your advice.
I have a great deal of experience with induction phase of subs. If you are on Subutex you can start as soon as you feel a little sick. But make sure you have gone at least 24 to 36 hours. Since there is no Naloxone in Subutex it is not like subuxone, Start with a small piece of sub try that and see if you get relief. If you are ok take a little more until you feel straight. Subutex is alot easier to get on then subuxone so make sure you are really sick or you will go through Precipitative Withdrawal Or Hell as I like to call it. Remember, less is more and the oxys will stay on those receptors for a good 3 days so make sure you are sick. Not just uncomfortable but sick and start small. Good luck if you have any more questions just post I check back here often to help people avoid the HELL.
