Taking Small Suboxone Doses After Stopping Oxycodone
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I took my last Oxycodone on Saturday. I've been taking 30 mg for 5 years. How long would withdrawals last if I take tiny pieces of 8 mg Suboxone? How long will I need to do this so that I don't get sick? Thanks

Percocet is oxycodone which is stronger than hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is Vicodin.

That’s not how it works though. I mean you won’t get sick from not taking the oxy because you are replacing them with the Suboxone but you are going to get sick when you stop taking the Suboxone and then withdrawals take much much longer to get through that if you just quit the oxy. You are making a grave mistake if you are doing it to avoid withdrawals.

You are not wrong for thinking that. I took Suboxone after years of taking pain medication thinking that would be an easier way to stop taking the pain medication. Even after slowly weaning off the Suboxone over six months (I only took it 6 months) I still had withdraws for weeks. Later on in life when I was in an accident, and had to take oxycodone for years again, I did not do the Suboxone when I stopped taking the pain medication. The withdrawals were so much easier and faster, they were gone after a week, but the third night was the worst. Once I got past that I was significantly better. I will never take Suboxone again. It’s such a scam. It’s probably helpful if you are abusing your medication and you’re having cravings because I think it stops the cravings. That wasn’t my situation though I was just trying to avoid having withdrawals after years of pain medication and it only made it worse.

I’m not a doctor, but I took Suboxone after years of taking oxycodone thinking that it would prevent me from getting withdrawals. Then I went down off the Suboxone over six months before stopping that I can tell you for a fact that withdraws were worse and longer coming off the Suboxone then they are just coming off pain medication. When I stopped taking oxycodone after taking it for years with drawls or over in a week, the third night is the worst but once you get through that it’s significantly better with Suboxone, it took more like a month.

But, she didn't mention Subutex. She asked about Suboxone.

Yeah it was. I took it in 2005 and back then not many people around here used it so I didn’t have anyone to tell me what a bad idea it was.

When I wanted to stop taking my pain medication my Doctor suggested Suboxone. I was told that in that case the cure was worse than the disease.

Thanks for answering. Appreciate it. Both drugs suck

Just don’t.
I thought suboxone would prevent withdrawal sickness, which it does while you take it, but when you quit the Suboxone you get a month of sick instead of a week of it.
This medication is garbage and I don’t know why people take it. You’re just delaying and multiplying your eventual withdrawals.

There were TWO studies on Kratom released yesterday. I am highly dubious of "studies". Who paid for the study? Do they have an "agenda"? If I can ever find a company that I am comfortable with I may try Kratom. According to the "studies" there is potentially some withdrawal.

Spellckeck especially on phones can change the world LOL Hey ya got to have a sense of humor or you will never make it through an addiction or life. Please if you do try Kratom please get it from a reputable scource not from the local shop. My ex orders it online i will see where he gets it and post it. He has been taking it for a year but he says there is a slight withdrawel. Good luck and just for today I am sane and not sick so it is a good day Peace

Same thing happened to me. I typed the word darvocet and it showed up in blue as percocet.

Re: Grateful (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

I am getting tired of the "spell check" included in my program. I thought that I typed "kratom" and it posted as Keaton. I KNOW I did NOT type that word. I, as I posted yesterday, will not try "kratom" because of the quality issues. Is the "kratom" you get pure or is it made with ingredients that are not disclosed? Maybe if I can find a reliable source I may try it.

I've been on Suboxone for over 5 years now,I was also hooked on oxycodone, I don't think even if you take the subs, it's still really hard to stop them as well, as a matter of fact I've heard and also felt it's harder to kick the subs then it is if you wing yourself off pain meds.i would check myself into a rehab and go that route it's really hard and dangerous to just quit any of those kinds of meds, please consult a Dr. First

I have done most of the things that you have suggested and I agree. I will not take Keaton for the very reasons that you posted. I have so far resisted taking Suboxone or Subutex because it has been suggested to try and titrate down from what I am taking.

Re: cliff j (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

Yes you could say that you are replacing one addiction with another BUT what is the lessor of the 2 evils. With subs you can titrate down gradually and when you get to the end or down low. Communicate with your Doctor and get a mild benzo and something to sleep. Stay Hydrated and force yourself to exercise and stay positive. All of these drugs are difficult to get off. If it were easy we would all be just fine. But it ain't so. Everyone is different and some swear by Kratom but that is a crapshoot as you don't know what you are getting. Sorry Kratom lovers, I am happy for you all but it is not for me. And why bother to take an opiate. I have a great Doc very important to the overall plan. He is also a Medical Cannabis Doctor; and it helps with all kinds of issues. We are all addicts so One day at a time!!!! Good luck to all.

Re: Stefany (# 3) Expand Referenced Message
This is what my son, who has had five back surgeries, said. He said basically “the cure is worse than the disease”. He said to him it was like replacing one addiction for another. He finally quit completely and has been clean of all opioids for over a year. There are many options because what may be successful for one person just won’t work for another person.

Take Kratom Powder, it’s a God-send for peeps in your situation. If you tapered correctly, you could probably see you’re way through it, but will need either social &/or physio support like that which Kratom provides. Stay hydrated, and do some kind of aerobic exercise, as well as stretches: good luck!

You shouldn’t haven’t started u til you felt sick. Taking it before that will actually put you into pre-withdrawal which is the worst of the worst. I took 80mg’s a day, got off and withdrawn for a week before I started Zubsolv. Took that for 2 weeks and I’ve been off of it ever since!
