Taking Hydrocodone For Depression (Page 7) (Top voted first)

Updated

I am wondering if anybody else out there has taken Hydrocodone and noticed that symptoms of depression are alleviated? I find that many of today's anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs come with unpleasant side effects, whereas while taking Hydrocodone they aren't there. The caveat to all of this is that yes, I know that Hydrocodone and opiates in general can be addictive. So long term use would result in withdrawal symptoms. I'm just wondering who else might agree with me on this?

Opiods increase dopamine which will alleviate depression but it also gives a euphoric feeling which is not a "normal" state of mind. Abuse or long term use can cause depression to worsen in the long run but especially if you quit abruptly.
I have experienced treatment resistant depression and I never really gave antidepressants a try because Opiods made me feel so good why would I need anything else! But it lead to abuse bc your body will need higher and higher doses to get the same nice feeling you had in the begining. I finally found a good psychiatrist who prescribes me an antidepressant and a mood stabilizer and the combination works for me. I don't have the euphoric feeling I did with the Opiods obviously but I feel "normal" which for me is waking up in the morning not dreading the day, looking forward to things again, and not feeling like a need a narcotic to face the day. I have read that the first kind of antidepressant you take doesn't always do the trick and most people have to try a few different types to get the results they want. It can be trial and error and it's probably not going to be immediate- for me it was almost 3 months of trying different things but I was improving over that period.

Oh CINDHY...when will you ever learn? Pain pumps can, maybe, be a GREAT help...but soooo many of us will never know! and can you guess why? Silly girl...it's because they WANT you to suffer and pay WAYYY to much money for s*** that either doesn't work or cost too F'ING much! It's a great Lil game that they play with our lives isn't it? Hey, we can give you something that WILL help, if you can afford it, then after we get you nice and hooked, and here's the REALLY fun part, WE TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ANYMORE! Ha ha ha! I am STILL constantly amazed at how brilliant yet F*****G STUPID OUR RACE TRULY IS! WE SUCK!

Have you ever had treatment resistant major depressive disorder? If you did, you would know that people who suffer from this disorder barely have any good days. You don't have to tell us life is short. That is one of the reasons we would try anything so we can enjoy what ever amount of time we have left. Check your facts before posting such a flippant comment.

Many treatment resistant depressives are actually Endogenous Deficient and need external opiates...Look up article Ignorance Kills and see if you fit the bill.. No you do not need to keep increasing dosages, that fear mongering media hype! As a Pain patient my optimum dose was 6/day of oxy 30mgs....For six years not only would it still work but stopping Fentanyl or any ER opiate helped me go down to 4/day.... Now with docs running scared-I even found a doable does of 15 or 20mg 6 a day every 4 hours being 90mgs or the same 120....6 years on this crazy train and no, you don't need higher and higher doses! I'm using it for pain, depression, vertigo, sinusitis, energy, mobility and more!

Davo, my back pain is chronic pain caused by the surgery I had in April. I couldn't opt out of the surgery because the pain I was experiencing was so bad I couldn't walk. I never in my life felt pain that severe. I never thought I would say this, but it was so much worse than childbirth. Lol. My diagnosis was a herniated disc at L3/L4, a compressed nerve and spinal stenosis. For me, spinal stenosis is inherited along with this friggin' depression. How lucky am I? There was no choice between having epidural shots and physical therapy because of how severe the pain was. I had a laminectomy. The doctor prepared me for having chronic back pain, probably for the rest of my life. I thought I would just have to learn how to live with it until I read your post. I wonder if I would be a candidate for epidural shots now. I don't know what the criteria are for being a candidate, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. I was always pretty active before this back crap. I'd love to be that active again. Thanks for giving me options I didn't think of.

Been giving serious thought about checking myself into John Hopkins Hospital. My hope is that they would give me a full assessment and either try different meds that are promising along with ECT or TMS. If anyone or anything can help me, I have a glimmer of hope that John Hopkins can. Their psychiatry and mood disorder departments have been ranked number one. I have to do something. I can't continue living like this. If I had a choice of dying or to live out my life the way I am, I would so much rather die. I want to live very badly, but not like this. I've read that some people have used opiates to relieve some of their depression. Would anyone know if my psychiatrist would be the one to prescribe them or would I have to go to a medical doctor? It's just a thought because I'm not very sure I would want to go that route. Some of the comments about other people's horror stories scare the s*** out of me about using opiates. God! Why don't the powers that be just let us have marijuana?

I sometimes take just a half Vicodin, and that helps my depression as well as taking a full one. I don't feel high; just normal and happy.

I would much rather spend my money on Marijuana. It helps with anxiety so much better than the crap the doctors give us. Don't even get me started on antidepressants. They don't work, many have side effects that are intolerable and withdrawal symptoms are so bad that people start taking the drug again because they can't tolerate coming off them. I swear antidepressants are addictive. At least pot is non-addictive, it works (so I've heard..lol) and I'm more social. It's a plant. It grows in the ground. Marijuana should be legalized, at least medical Marijuana in every state.

Dear Spyz, I for one would like to shake your hand I agree with you everyone is different and those of us that need a little help for hydras or Oxys probably would have never started on this type of medicine unless our body's needed it in the first place. And I for one have a much better quality of life because of them so I'm glad I read your post all my fest wishes to you.

Don't get addicted to Opioids, or Opiates for any reason! You have No Idea what you could be getting yourself into. I have no doubt hydrocodone would cure your Depression, for about 4 to 6 hours at a time, then you would need to take more, and as your tolerance builds -within a month you could easily be up to 3 or 4 times the amount you started on. It just gets worse from there. Opiates are the true Narcotics. Opiates are derived from the Opium Poppy of which there are numerous strains- the weakest strain being the South American Poppy, to the Most Powerful -The Burmese White Poppy. There is supposedly the Tasmanian Purple, which is the most powerful, but it is not grown in enough abundance to matter. The China White, slang for the Deso-Morphine (Heroin) produced by the Burmese Poppy, when in it's pure state is extremely dangerous to handle. A match-head of this type of Deso-Morphine, in the blood-stream will kill a man. The way that China White is taken is transdermal. A small amount on a finger tip is rubbed into an area of washed skin, usually on the under-side of the wrist. Even using this type of Deso-Morphine, which is commonly known by the brand name the German Pharmaceutical Company - Bayer Pharmaceuticals gave to it's invention of refining Morphine by boiling it in Sulfuric Acid then Charcoal Filtering it creating a much refined type of Morphine which it's chemical name is Deso-Morphine. Bayer named their refined Morphine Product Heroin. In German, Heroin is a feeling. The word does not translate well in English - In German Heroin is a feeling of being "on top of the world" - one feels simply great to the point where words cannot express. The closest word in the English language would be ecstasy, which happens to be the name for the drug MDMA, which was legal for a short time in the U.S. The other Opiates are, (besides: morphine-heroin), codeine and Opium. The Opioid family of drugs is far wider. Opiods are chemically made versions of Opiates, in many different forms & types, of varying degrees of strength. Opiods are much harder to de-tox from than Opiates for one very simple reason. Opiates are organic, where Opioids are chemicals that are alien to the human system & thus much harder to de-tox from. Since both types of drugs effect the brain in the same way, basically. I would think that Morphine would be a better choice than hydrocodone. You see the folly of this treatment plan ? The thing that really bothers me about it is the extreme depression that occurs if withdrawal of the Opioid occurs. Opiate/Opioid Withdrawal is literally - Hell on Earth ! Not only is your body, all the way down to your very cells, in a state of absolute agony similar to Malaria, combined with muscles spasms and insomnia, but with a deep and dark depression like you have never known you will experience together with the physical agony. This supposed Doctor who is suggesting this to you should be stripped of his medical licence and imprisoned! Please do heed this warning- it is very likely the most important advice given to you in your entire life time.

Sincerely, most so - Brian from St. Petersburg Florida
