Taking Hydrocodone For Depression (Page 17) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am wondering if anybody else out there has taken Hydrocodone and noticed that symptoms of depression are alleviated? I find that many of today's anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs come with unpleasant side effects, whereas while taking Hydrocodone they aren't there. The caveat to all of this is that yes, I know that Hydrocodone and opiates in general can be addictive. So long term use would result in withdrawal symptoms. I'm just wondering who else might agree with me on this?
HOUSE LOL I think they are mad because not only do we get our info free off the internet and they paid $100,000 in tuition LOL, but they stop learning once they graduated! We as patients are probably more aware of news meds, programs, laws, pain conferences etc. than they are....I had one N. P. shriek, "well I'm certified to do this"! I opened my folder full of my AMA, APA, CME, REM and other certification, waved my prescribing Liscenses in her face and said back, "Me too"! "Plus over 40 years research, what about you" yeah they like running out of the room.....it sucks having the qualifications to prescribe but no medical Liscence to attach it to
SADIESURRENDER, do you have ANY condition that would qualify you for pain management? If you could keep a steady stream of opiates in your system, that would help the depression....some hit different receptors and could make it worse....hydro and oxycodone do raise T levels in Thyroid, providing energy and enhance mood....they are actually non-narcotic and have a base (Thebaine) which is a stimulant...even 20mgs, once after breakfast and again after lunch.....would alleviate depression symptoms, keep your bowels regular and not keep you up all night.....if a pain doc gave you 4 19mgs a day......that would greatly help and I never noticed withdrawal symptoms on that low a dose....many SSRI meds can drive you nuts....if your goal isn't to feel high, you will not need higher and higher doses.......I started 6-7 yrs ago taking 6 30mgs a day and now that I refuse to take an extended release opiate, I can get by on 80-90 mgs a day! Great pain relief and excellent antidepressant which is due to aid to T levels....low thyroid can cause depression Good Luck!
SPYZ...I have a Golden Retriever, Logan and an all white Siberian Husky, Ghost. They know when I'm not feeling well. Logan will lay on my feet and Ghost will put his head in my lap. They barely leave my side. They're my best friends. Of course cats don't have much empathy lol, but when they sit on my lap or next to me, petting them calms me. Pets are great therapy. I wish that's all it took to get better. I think if myself as the crazy animal lady down the block. I like animals more than most people. So, what's your Brussel's name?
Ahhh, Spyz. .ya got me! Lol....sorry so long for the reply. Anywho, YES MA'AM! hat's off to you MA'AM!
Some people are not helped by all the high dollar antidepressants. Darvon was the best until the FDA and Big Pharma, insurance companies and the politicians decided to stop it in one day, ask your Dr what the medical profession thinks of that move. Hydrocodone manufacturers paid enough to get this done. Hydrocodone does help with treatment resistant depression and puts some people in perfect balance (not euphoric). But stick to a small dose. If you are a Baby Boomer they want to be rid of you.
Hello HAPPY, and isn't just " normal and happy" GREAT!
Using opiod meds like this is preposterous at best!
You are correct, and the fact that opioids give people a chemically induced feeling of well being is PRECISELY why people become addicted to them! Well, that and the fact that when you stop taking them abruptly you feel like hot-dipped dog-poop and can even die from withdrawals, and like nicotine, even when you successfully give the drug up the longing never really leaves you. Plus, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need a large dose of a morphine-like drug, there will be dosing issues that could prove fatal.
You are better off trying to get a medicinal marijuana card than hydrocodone!!! MJ ccomes in more than one form- oils, ediles, vaping oil. FACT! LOOK INTO IT!
Just came from pain management and brought it up and I think she almost laughed in my face ! It is borderline drug seeking behaviour. You WILL run into a problem. Two reasons- Acetaminophen- can be toxic. The other tolerance- when it stops working! GUARANTEED!
Seriously- Hydrocodone is not the way to go.
Thanks! Another good thing about CBD it legal in 50 states-without the THC. Just make sure you talk to your Doctor &/ Pharmacist before starting anything new. I normally speak to both- first- my Pharmacist- since they have a complete file- allergies, ALL meds, and Vitamin supplements. Then if they see NO interactions- Doctor.
I have been wondering if there is a safer alternative because it makes me focused and happy, but i kbiw long term use is bad.
At the end of the day it's still an opioid and it is so important that everyone really understands the risks. I haven't heard anyone mention the side effects of constipation caused by opioid use. It was called Narcotic Bowel Syndrome then they dressed it up and now call it Opioid induced constipation. Talk to your Dr. about it if that is an issue for you.
Hydrocodone 10-325 is good for me also for depression, but to avoid the addiction of it I take only half at a time.Half in the morning and half at night.Try not to take to many in a days time (3).And if you do take 2-3 a day then this is where the addiction starts. So, once again take less as you can and not to much of a dose at a time with plenty of liquid.
FinLLY I Have been saying that for years now INs. co says must take there drug picked .Then Cut people off medications been on 20 yrs or more finally felt that could deal with medical promplem then INs. and Gov. cut off u dont even see it coming .Yes our bodies do get imuned to anthing cut off drug means withdrawl n usually death

"Is it ok to have a few drinks and take hydrocodone 5/325? I drank, but my back is killing me and my neck is stiff as hell!!" ~Meesh
Are you asking a real serious question here?? Do me a favor, take out your prescription bottle for hydrocodone and read the warning label and/or directions written by your Doc.
My meds from pain management say in caps DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICINE. As well as put in the directions.
Did you ask your Pharmacist when you picked up your medicine? They should've gone through all of that during pick up."
Ok, 2 votes down NOT 1 person voted that response UP. I would love to know why people think it is a good idea to drink and take opiates at the same time when the label on their prescription bottle says , ( in caps "DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICINE ." " MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS ALCOHOL INTENSIFIES THIS EFFECT USE CAUTION. TAKING MORE THAN RECOMMENDED MAY CAUSE BREATHING PROBLEMS. DO NOT TAKE OR GIVE PRESCRIPTIONS THAT ARE NOT IN YOUR NAME. CONTAINS ACETAMINOPHEN WATCH OUT FOR TOXIC LEVELS IN OTHER OTC PRODUCTS CONTAINING ACETAMINOPHEN.
SCHEDULE CLASS 2 DRUG
There are complete identifying descriptions on labels now as well.
Re: Mitch (# 450)
Well, I was initially put on SSDI for depression / anxiety & I already had auto immune disease problems that include debilitating pain and was given opioids but not for depression both psychiatrist and other doctors when I mention this say absolutely NO WAY!! I was getting my meds from a Rheumatologist before my Pain Management Dr left my insurance network. Neither PCP NOR my Rheumatologist will fill opioid meds. Government is cracking that whip making it harder for people IN PAIN to get it. To many prescription deaths and abuse which is why they are. Legalizing CBD oil and making medicinal marijuana easier too get. CBD Oil & Depression is a great alternative and it doesn't make you high.
Re: Nicole (# 444)
I'm with you, Nicole. People with depression aren't automatically good candidates for addiction. We just need relief from a kind of pain no one should have to live with. Pain is pain. I just want something to lift the moment-by-moment management of the nausea and anxiety and sadness that takes over the best and healthiest parts of who I am,
Re: George (# 425)
Well, since this post started, Hydocodone went from a Schedule Class 3 to a Class 2 & 3 drug in 2014/2015, so I do NOT see it being changed to a more lenient easier drug to get. I think you need to look at different options.... the DEA & gov't is looking at our country as a whole and there has been an epidemic/increase of prescription-related deaths. Red flags are being set off which is why Drs do not want to prescribe opioids. There is ZERO scope for a Psychiatrist to give that in their field. Vicodin [brand]/Hydrocodone [generic] is the script most surgeons give their patients after surgery. So say you go for a surgery & the surgeon first tells you I am going to need you to stop it for 2 weeks before I do any surgery because the pain meds will not be effective -then what? I had to wean off 3 medications for foot surgery so my meds would work. However, listening to some of these posts it sounds like when each of you say, "you aren't an addict or addicted", it is the opposite. The moment you say you need it, you are! Whether you are on 5mg or 30+mg. The opioid is not refillable like it used to be which is why it can be "to soon to fill".
So besides CBD Oil [which doesn't make you high], there's a Medicinal Marijuana Card.
Just read that IF people want to try there are other options that may help with depression and pain and now with possible withdrawal.. the FDA & DEA were thinking of banning this, but as of now it is a solid alternative. I've seen it at WalMart & Whole Foods, etc.. It is called Kratom. It works like an opiate too - looks similar to marijuana - eat it, smoke, tea, etc...

Re: Nicole (# 457)
Wow!! What an EXCELLENT, well worded post!..I have tried Valarian for anxiety, but found that it didn't really help. It also made me very short tempered, "snappy".Etc. If you know of anything that may help, then please share! Lol....Have a great day and thank you for your most informative post, H....
Re: Chiara (# 465)
Oh I do agree with everything you have said! I've tried many meds and took Vicodin for neck pain. I realized that I had a positive thinking pattern instead of negative thinking. I'm productive.
