I am wondering if anybody else out there has taken Hydrocodone and noticed that symptoms of depression are alleviated? I find that many of today's anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs come with unpleasant side effects, whereas while taking Hydrocodone they aren't there. The caveat to all of this is that yes, I know that Hydrocodone and opiates in general can be addictive. So long term use would result in withdrawal symptoms. I'm just wondering who else might agree with me on this?

P450 Oxy and hydrocodone's main alkaloid/enzyme whatever is Thebaine....Thebaine is the only NONNARCOTIC property of the papaver somniferum and is in fact a stimulant.....not only that, oxycodone raises T levels increasing Thyroid function thus enhancing mood and energy......extended release/abuse proof opiates suck the adrenals dry causing Hypothyroidism and straight Oxy or Hydro will help restore it (once you remove the foul extended release/Abuse proof opies)

Who prescribes it? For depression? I do feel that way when I take it- but no one else seems to think it is healthy to take it...... I feel so alone.

im depressed im left in so much pain since all my meds were taking away. I cant even wash more than one dish at a time n have to go back to heating pad. Just talked on the phone for 4 min. pain so bad i have to lay down. So yes it would help greatly with depression

Oh CINDHY...when will you ever learn? Pain pumps can, maybe, be a GREAT help...but soooo many of us will never know! and can you guess why? Silly girl...it's because they WANT you to suffer and pay WAYYY to much money for s*** that either doesn't work or cost too F'ING much! It's a great Lil game that they play with our lives isn't it? Hey, we can give you something that WILL help, if you can afford it, then after we get you nice and hooked, and here's the REALLY fun part, WE TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ANYMORE! Ha ha ha! I am STILL constantly amazed at how brilliant yet F*****G STUPID OUR RACE TRULY IS! WE SUCK!

I agree. I am on hydrocodone for pain issues but I find that it really allev iates my anxiety and depression. I don't like antidepressants. Too many side effects and weight gain. Anti- anxiety meds in the benzodiazepine family just make me stupid and really knock me on my add. Vicodin to me is a miracle drug. I only need to take it as prescribed and I feel great! Not only takes care of pain but depression, anxiety And social anxiety.

Very well said. It's crazy how good people who have legitimate pain are treated like drug addicts or dealers when trying to fill a prescription. Meanwhile there is a liquor store on every corner and alcohol abuse kills more people than hydrocodone!

Thank u but i have seen enough people n heard their stories. I would never have any thing implanted in my body, we dont have hospitals anymore. They're disease ridden concentration camps. Plus i was told by John Hopkins 4 yrs ago Fl gave me so many MRI n Cat scans same ones, wrong ones over n over again. I now have chronic radiation poisoning. John Hopkins said i could never have any kind of surgery again. My immune system is to compromised. I only had 2 days to stay in Baltimore before i had to come back to FL. my niece had to drive me. I was dying. I could not even get anti nausea med in FL. Im alone now n was forced back on medicaid because of Gov. Prick Scott n his murdering cut backs. I am just signing as many petitions as i can n fighting for Bernie Sanders. I had an older lady help me across the parking lot. She said she never stayed in FL for more than a week when she was from Switzerland. She said she could go to any specialist for $6.00 n all medication was $1.00. She said she would not risk getting sick in america having them take all her money, house n whatever they could get just because she needed medical care.

Cindhy, my heart goes out to you. I've read about people getting relief from morphine implants. They are implanted right near the nerves center that is causing the pain. Much less morphine is needed because it is absorbed directly by the nerves.

It is outrageous that you are forced to suffer due to inept politicians. Can you contact a legal aid attorney? Or, perhaps a non-profit advocacy group for pain management? I've even received help by writing to President Obama. His staff often try to help by making contact with Federal and state agencies.

While I love Florida and its natural beauty, they have a horrible record of restricting pain medication for patients who have a legitimate medical need. Several years ago, a man from N.J., who suffered from M.S., was actually prosecuted when he moved to Florida. He tried to fill a prescription from his pain management specialist, who practiced in New Jersey. Because he had built up a very high tolerance, he had to take large doses of opioids. When he tried to fill prescriptions from his pain management specialist, he was actually charged with attempting to distribute. The prosecutor could not understand why anyone would need such large doses. This patient was a 45 year old family man, with 2 daughters, in the terminal stages of M.S. Even a letter from a nationally renowned pain specialist, explaining the principles of tolerance, would not move this prosecutor. The patient refused a plea bargain because he had done nothing wrong. He received a 5 year prison sentence. Ironically, he found pain relief when the prison doctor implanted a morphine drip.

This story appeared in all the major newspapers and probably can be found with an internet search.

Unfortunately, this is not only Florida's problem. Every day, our country's citizen's are victimized because both political parties think it's more important to fight with each other than do their jobs: Serve their constituents.

Opiods increase dopamine which will alleviate depression but it also gives a euphoric feeling which is not a "normal" state of mind. Abuse or long term use can cause depression to worsen in the long run but especially if you quit abruptly.
I have experienced treatment resistant depression and I never really gave antidepressants a try because Opiods made me feel so good why would I need anything else! But it lead to abuse bc your body will need higher and higher doses to get the same nice feeling you had in the begining. I finally found a good psychiatrist who prescribes me an antidepressant and a mood stabilizer and the combination works for me. I don't have the euphoric feeling I did with the Opiods obviously but I feel "normal" which for me is waking up in the morning not dreading the day, looking forward to things again, and not feeling like a need a narcotic to face the day. I have read that the first kind of antidepressant you take doesn't always do the trick and most people have to try a few different types to get the results they want. It can be trial and error and it's probably not going to be immediate- for me it was almost 3 months of trying different things but I was improving over that period.

Not to burst your bubble but the only reason your symptoms of depression are uplifted is REDUCTION of severe pain.

The only opioids that are proven to have a mood uplift are Oxycodone and similar.

The others are major CNS depressants and will make your mood worse over time.

I suffer Central Pain Syndrome. Some of the current pain medications I am on put me in tears, trust me I have an open door to Oxy liquid but won't abuse it to feel better.

I find that when u are pain free u r happy. it goes hand in hand. of course when u have no problems u will just feel better. enjoy the good moods life is to short. :)

I've been suffering from major depression my whole life. It has been unresponsive to every antidepressant I've taken. (And I've probably taken every one on the market.) The pattern is the same with each drug. It may help for a short period of time but then my depression comes back. My psychiatrist had to increase the dose which caused more side effects. Then, I had to withdraw because it was doing nothing but raising my blood pressure. And withdrawing from most antidepressants is an ordeal. Big pharma lied when they claimed these drugs weren't addicting and had no withdrawal effects.

Enter hydrocodone. I developed a painful back problem that was confirmed by various scans. My doctor prescribed hydrocodone. It not only helped my back pain but was the first drug the really lifted my depression. My psychiatrist was honest enough to tell me that opioids are powerful antidepressants. This has been known for a long time. The problem is their abuse potential. Most people quickly develop a tolerance to opioids and need progressively higher doses to achieve the same effect. Addiction comes quickly with hydrocodone. If one already has depression, withdrawal is a horrible experience that, sadly, leads some to take their lives. One cannot use hydrocodone as a long term remedy for depression. Tolerance is quickly developed and the drug becomes ineffective. Opioids slow G.I. motility (chronic constipation) and kill the libido. One becomes less than human as your whole life revolves around getting a supply of opioids.

The obvious question is: What is the difference between taking antidepressants and opioids? Well, in my experience, antidepressants rarely give the user a feeling of pleasure, while opioids usually give an intense feeling of pleasure. This is the major reason why they have a high potential for abuse.

From my own experience, I would avoid opioids like the plague, unless one has severe pain from a terminal illness or short term pain from surgery.

Greetings T time. Sorry you had to suffer with the addiction battle. For me personally, and one who has suffered from chronic pain, major depression, anxiety, migraines, and severe panic attacks for 30 yrs.... I can tell you that I have been through the game of treatment. In my case, combing a great PhD, mild exercise, and medication management for the depression, chronic pain (opiods), panic/anxiety attacks (ativan), and Ritalin for med resistant depression has allowed me to lead a full and productive life. Granted, I do not suffer from the horrible disease of addiction, or have "grown" into it.

I bring all this up so a healthy discussion takes place. Do my pain meds help with the depression and anxiety? Yes, they do along with the the therapy. We should never paint with such broad strokes, when someone suffering may just find the same relief as I did.

Trust me on this. The addiction risk is absolutely not worth any relief from depression you may get. I have had a three year addiction to hydro and despite several attempts can't beat it due to the withdrawal symptoms. More so to your case this is what you are likely to experience. Initially you may get relief from the depression but eventually your tolerance will grow and you will require more for the same effect. Then you’re likely to require it every 4 to 6 hours around the clock to avoid withdrawal. Worst of all, at this point the euphoric feeling or relief from depression will go away and your no longer taking it to feel better you’re taking it instead to avoid feeling bad. And if on it long enough, depression will become one of the symptoms, among others. I battle depression constantly as a result of the physical and psychological dependency. Of course, if one does eventually get off it, depression is one of the most common symptoms of withdrawal from it. Short term and often long term. Bottom line the depression your fighting will likely be worsened if any type of dependency or addiction develops. Not to mention the even worse risk of it leading to use and abuse of other if not worse opiates. It can easily be completely destructive to one’s life and simply should not even remotely be considered for that purpose. I say that as a person who can vouch for the addiction battle this drug can bring.

Yes I have tried several antidepressant meds none seem to help with my depression symptoms, one of my problems I struggle with is low or no energy to do the things I use to enjoy I suffer from a chronic pain condition and found that after taking 10 mgs. 4 times a day that I felt better!! Both mentally and physically so I agree with you best of luck to you

Patty I personally found out that extended release/abuse proof opiates cause adrenal drainage and hypothyroidism in menapausal women who cannot do hormone replacement therapy.....as my life came to a screeching halt, I started looking into medicine interactions and found study after study in peer review articles claiming such..... Sadly I think it will take longer to become well again than it did to get this sick

Hello good morning to all spyzs just curious my doctor ran my t4 levels and for the first time in 5 years they came back at a high level and yes my energy level has risen tremendously unfortunately I cannot do much because of what the consequences would be after. I was concerned I might have a thyroid problem on top of everything else in 5 years I have been taking the norco the test came out normal could it be the manufacturer ? My doctor will re test again as soon as he comes back from walking out of his office for good have to find another doctor in the mean time I have to pray and worry I don't have cancer or a thyroid condition have a blessed day
