Synthroid Makes Me Mean & Aggressive? Happening To Anyone Else?
UpdatedMy life is my kids & wonderful husband. I'm so sorry, guys! Me-diagnosed w/ hypo-thyroidism '09. COULD NOT EVER-finish a sentence/thought/ or even a simple word like 'table' Slept 17-21 hrs/day. Dr put me in the Hosp. when my Husb. took me to the ER.Dr said I was extremely ill. In a "crisis stage/state" I was stabilized-out in 4dys.
Started on 100mcgs of Levothyroxin. And I turned into a b**** from hell!²-(squared) So, I tried 50, 25,12.5, & even 6&¼! And I was still a polar opposite of my true personality. I'm not an A+ person w/no faults, by ANY means, BUT I am kind, loving, generous, funny, patient, and go out of my way (to the extreme sometimes, & my family gets irritated with me 4 that idiosyncratic, bordering on addictive behavior) But NO ONE, would EVER say that I'm mean! I now know about the natural animal supplements, but $$ is an issue, & I'm in the U.S.& don't know if it's avail. (approved) here. So, I stopped the pills altogether, and then I'm in bed again, acting like a ditzy, sleepy, lump. So, My doc put me on Ritalin to help me function; it helps, but it's a legal SPEED! Great- I'm a speed freak now- And tho it helps me function, but the underlying health issues are still there! The heart disease, the bone disease, hair loss, etc, are NOT being treated! I'm sorry to be a whiner, & u know my life story, but I'm hoping that somewhere out there, you have some words of wisdom and any other valuable information about this. I have yet to find ANYONE, ANY LITERATURE, Or DR, who is supporting my theory, that it's the meds that r making me maintain this alter ego, that is a lot of things that I am very against.
I've tried to live my life following my heart and soul for a moral compass- I'm not a liability, but I'm assuming that the majority of my friends, don't want to claim me, when I'm in psycho mode (or the "World's Best Mother & Wife" when I do my best to hold the bed down, which is a lot of work! LOL!) So, if you're out there & avail. I would be SO grateful for any support &/or info on this issue. I'm starting to feel like I'm a little crazy- and I don't want to be a crazy person. Not sure that you can fix that, but I'm open to tx! Thank You so much for your time & interest, advice, & insight. My Best to you and your family, posse, friends, etc, -Taridia

Hello, Tardia! How are you? Sorry that you've been so miserable.
The issue here is that you're actually adding a hormone to your body, that's what this medication is, so of course there's a chance it can cause such symptoms for awhile. However, they usually level off and begin to taper, until they disappear entirely, as your body gets used to it.
Rather than stopping the medication, it might be better to ask your doctor about prescribing something that can help with the irritability and other symptoms for awhile.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
