Switching From Loestrin 24 Fe To Lomedia (Page 2)

Updated

I am one of the customers unhappy with the discontinuation of Loestrin 24 Fe. I saw so many negative reviews with those who switched to Minastrin that I refused to take it despite what my nurse was trying to say. I researched and knew a generic was coming. I have waited since October of last year for Lomedia and picked up my prescription and pills 3 weeks ago. I still haven't taken them because I'd like to know about the experience on these pills. Has anyone taken Lomedia? Please share your experience so we can all be informed.

i took a hormonal birth control pill last year that made me pass out and get violently ill. they could never find out what it was but once i stopped taking the pill, i was absolutely fine. That was about a year ago.

My first month on Lomedia was fine my second month however by the second week I had breast lumps and they hurt sooo bad. I went to the doctor and they were benign; just a side effect of the birth control. Also, I tried to get a new pack and they had to get a new shipment to come in first so I was off of it for like two days before the shipment came in. I took my last placebo iron pill yesterday and I haven't had a period this month. So great.

I was on Loestrin 24 FE for 7 years as well and then switched to Lomedia 24 and have been bleeding 20 days each month for three months and then for two months was bleeding for 7-10 days and finally this month 4 days. I wish that never discontinued Loestrin 24 FE.

So I've never took Loestrin 24 Fe, I was previously on Reclipsen-which was hell.

I just finished my third pack and started my fourth pack today. The first three months my period was crazy and all over the place, I would get it during the second week of the pack. I haven't experienced any crazy mood swings or bloating or feet swelling like I did when I was on Reclipsen. I was on reclipsen for a good year and a half.

So far I've been on Lomedia for 3 months and I love it. No extra weight gain, no crazy mood swings, or feet swelling and my period is light and for 4 days and I like how the placebo pills are 4 iron pills instead of ethinyl estradiol.

I'm not an OB-GYN, but from what my OB told me if your body has a high
Estrogen level (which some females have) it's better to be on a low estrogen birth control.

And I really like Lomedia for me

I started Lomedia 24 Fe in June - my first birth control pill, and i hate it. The first three months I had terrible breakouts, i was exhausted all the time, depressed and moody. Those symptoms got better after 3 solid months, but since I get a light period randomly about 2-3 times per month, with cramping and bloating and hormonal moodiness each time. I'm afraid to try anything else, but this pill doesn't work for me at all.

Huh. My pharmacist told me that they stopped making Lomedia 24 FE.

I got some super generic version of the same thing, though. It's made in India and I'm a little a worried about that.

This pill is horrible!!! I am not done with the pack yet and am going to stop immediately. Since taking it I have also been extremely moody (going from sensitive to snappy). I am extremely bloated and low energy. I knew I wasnt feeling like myself since starting this pill and all the other comments have confirmed lomedia is to blame!

I was on Loestrin 24 FE for 7 years with no problem (and no period which was awesome!). When Loestrin went away I was switched to Minastrin and constantly had break through bleeding. No crazy hormone changes or acne break outs though. I tried to stick with Minastrin for 9 months, but then after having my cycle 3 times in one month I was over it!

So my doctor thought I needed a high dosage of BC and put me on Gildess 1.5/30. I didn't have break through bleeding until the third month, but my cycle was heavy when it came, and I was a crazy emotional wreck all three months.

I finally did my own research and came across Lomedia. I will say the positives is I'm not crazy emotional anymore, I kind of got my bite back (in a good way), also no weight gain. The first month I was a little broken out, mostly on my shoulders, and my cycle started 2 days early, so I had it for a full 7 days. The second month I had break through (an actual full, but light, cycle for 7 days). But did not have a cycle during the placebo pills. I just finished up my third month, had another full 7 day cycle during the placebo pills, so it started a couple days early again. Im on my 4th month, just started my second week and Im having light break through again.

For those on Lomedia, who has not had any hormonal of physical problems, did your cycle ever even out? Similar to what you experienced with Loestrin?

I'm feeling good other than the breakthroughs and really would like to get this pill to work.

I have been on low media for almost 2 months now and I have had nothing but problems. I have been spotting I also have had mood swings and gains weight as well as bloating. I was put on it to stop my periods and help me with my menstrual migraines. I also have low iron and was told this had iron in it. I would not recommend it. I was on the Lo Lostermin Fe and loved it but it was so expensive. I am 46 and not sure what I should do at this point.

I have had the exact same problems! I absolutely do not like this birth control at all! the point of me taking it was to control my menstrual migraines and stop me from having periods. I am supposed to skip the placebos, but so far I have constant spotting its ridiculous... Just wanted you to know there's someone else out there that totally agrees with you. I have never had any problems with birth control in the past. Never had any weight gain or anything like that until this birth control! I have one more month on it and I think I'm done.

I've posted many times, last post back in august, and I will tell you that if you can hold on for a good solid six months it'll be like you're back on loestrin. That is a long time for someone who hasn't even started the pills to experience the side effects, but for those of you that have already stuck out a few months dont give up! Only issue is not knowing when I might randomly have a light period (spotting), bUT is always right after I start the placebo pills and for no more than two days when it does happen. Other than that they're now working great for me :)

Thanks Melissa! When doing more research I did notice Minastrin and Loestrin said you would have lighter to no periods after cycle 6. Since I'm on my 4th pack I think I'll keep at it to see what happens. I'll repost to update

This is my second month in lomedia. I was previously on levora, and have been on that for over a year. My gyno switched me to lomedia for shorter periods. The first month of taking lomedia I was sick with an upper respiratory infection so I had to take amoxicillin. I spotted the second week on the pill, then I had light spotting for the two days of my period. In my second pack, on the second week I started spotting again, and have been spotting for five days now! Plus I'm bloated and feeling sad. I hope my body gets used to this pill, or I'm going back to levora, even if it makes my period longer.

So I was on Cryselle for a year and I switched to Microgestin because the hormones in the Cryselle were SO strong that I was crazy. Like so cranky and evil and depressed. Literally Cryselle made me nuts. So I switched to Microgestin and I have been on Microgestin for 4 months now. I loved EVERYTHING about it. No more mood swings, no more depression, no more cramps, bloating or weight gain. EXCEPT I basically had my period the whole 4 months. I know it was spotting but it was so heavy I had to wear tampons for 4 months. I'm assuming the hormone levels were too low since I bled because I have NEVER spotted a day in my life until Microgestin. My doctor switched me to LoMedia 24 Fe today because it is a little higher in hormones than Microgestin, but not as many as Cryselle. I don't start taking Lomedia 24 Fe for another week (after my period). I hope this works for me! It seems like all bad reviews, but I guess it's different for every woman!

Hi, my name is Kait. I am 25 years old, with slightly fair skin (I still get a bit tan). I don't usually write on these message boards, but they've been so helpful for me that I've decided to return the favor. Below is a record of my first 3 weeks with Lomedia and the results 7 months later (because I totally forgot about it). I was on Microgestin before I made the switch over to Lomedia. I had bad melasma with microgestin (melasma is a skin disorder that is found on your face and consists of patchy brown spots. It is caused by sun damage and a change in hormones. This could be from pregnancy or oral contraceptives). In my case, melasma is from the birth control because when I stop taking the pills the melasma begins to fade, so if you have this problem you are not alone! I asked my gyno to switch me because of this reason and she told me to just stay out of the sun...uhhh, thanks doc but stick to what you know. Luckily, she made the switch for me and these are the results!

This is my record:

Week 1: started with acne before I got on the pill, by the end of the week it has lessened. Bloating but I've been eating like crap, not enough water or exercise. Super vivid dreams every night and with naps too.

Week two: skin has cleared. Vivid dreams have slowed down a little. Very bloated, but haven't been drinking enough water. Are my boobs bigger?

Week three: boobs are definitely bigger. Very emotional.

7 months later: I like this pill a lot... I do have melasma (not nearly as bad as Microgestin) as a con but the pros definitely outweigh the one con. I'm using a brightening cream that seems to help with this (Nadinola). This pill keeps my hormonal acne at bay, and doesn't seem to influence my emotions nearly as much as the first month. A great pro is my boobs got significantly bigger, went from a size 34C to a 34D! I'll take those 3 extra pounds! I did stop having my periods for the last 4 months or so. I know that sounds like a blessing, but I still have the symptoms every month (no its not possibly for me to be pregnant right now) and I actually like having my period because it lets me know everything is okay. Hope this helps! Feel free to message me for more details about anything!

I want to update...I've posted several times here. My pharmacist told me that Lomedia 24 FE was discontinued. You folks make me think she's wrong, but oh well. I'm on something so generic that it doesn't even have a name, just the name of the chemicals. Norethindrone Acetate and Ethinyl Estradiol 1mg/.02mg with ferrous tablets. It looks just like the Loestrin I used to take. I was worried that because it was made in India it would be some sort of knock off and not work as well.

But, I'm back to no periods (maybe a little spotting), no mood swings, and I'm not pregnant, so it seems to be working on that end, to boot! Loving it!

Oh my goodness...Jencentric maybe right, I am afraid it is true, I just tried to call in my regular Lomedia prescription and my pharmacy could not get it! They called around to other stores and only 1 store local to me had 1 packet left so I am getting it thank goodness, but they did not seem sure if they would be able to get it next month! I am shocked, I too LOVED Loestrin and was unfairly blindsided when it was discontinued. I am hoping this is not the case with Lomedia. Otherwise I will be upset! I don't want to start over! I went from Loestrin to Minastrin which sucked, then found Lomedia which I've been happy with other than maybe some minor anxiety from time to time. So I guess we'll see next month!! Anyone else experiencing this?? Maybe just a glitch in the system??

Don't fret! That generic pill that's so generic it doesn't even have a name, just the name of the chemicals. Norethindrone Acetate and Ethinyl Estradiol 1mg/.02mg with ferrous tablets. It looks just like the Loestrin I used to take and I've been on it for about 4 months. It's absolutely the same for me. It's made my a company called Mylan. Box is pink and the packets are blue and look just like Loestrin/Lomedia packs.

Thanks for the reply! I'll try and post an update next month when I try to refill again. I called my OB/GYN yesterday afternoon and left a message with the nurse to try to look into it so maybe she will give me a call!! I looked up the Mylan generic...7 ferrus tablets instead of Lomedia's 4...I am spoiled having my extremely light, 3-day period so the 7 day will not be fun I am afraid!

I think you should look again at the Mylan. Mine has only 4 ferrous tablets. You just need to be careful about what the dosage is. I believe the Lomedia was 1mg/.02mg, and that's what I'm currently on with the Mylan.

This was a solution that my pharmacist recommended so maybe check with them too. One of the things I learned in this whole clusterf*** of a process is that the Pharmacist actually knows more about what your insurance covers, and more of the breadth of options available than the doctor. The doc can say "take something along these lines" and the pharmacist can be like "this is the same dosage and is covered by your insurance" etc. That might sound kind of scary, but it's not like the pharmacist has an associates degree or something. I think it's something like 5 years of pretty specialized schooling for it. Just make sure the person you're talking to is the pharmacist for the pharmacy and not an intern/clerk.
