Swelling After Stopping Xarelto

I was prescribed xarelto 20 mg for 20 days following foot surgery, due to a history of a clot in my calf, took last pill day before yesterday and my whole body, but especially my foot is swollen and retaining fluid I am fatigued and sore. I also have a superficial infection on the end of my Inscision and taking antibiotic might go to ER if it doesn't improve. Looks like lots of fluid retention.

From what others have reported, this is a common effect from stopping Xarelto. Some people also experience fatigue, diarrhea and headache, as listed by the FDA.

In most cases, the edema goes away on its own, but some people do need to take diuretics for awhile.

I stop xarelto yesterday,today i noticed i didn't go to the bathroom as much as usual, i'm scared i might be retaining fluid. Did yours go away?

If not, you should consult your doctor. You may need a diuretic.

Is your doctor aware that you've stopped the Xarelto?

I don’t know the equivalent dosage of Xarelto compared to Warfarin. I’m on 7mg of warfarin for almost 20 years after having 3 clots & a PE. The only time I stop taking it is when I’ve had a procedure & needed to be off blood thinners. But go back on them within 10 days.
