Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

I'm glad to hear about the chill. I'm in the middle of my cleanse and it is 90 degrees here and I'm freezing!

I just finished my second dose of suprep. a good trick is to use cold water from the fridge and a bit of ice; it seems to blunt the taste some. also a straw makes it go down quicker.

First time using SuPrep. I am 30 min in and finally don't feel like i'm going to vomit. There is no way to make a prep easy. It tastes disgusting. And every drink i've had after it this morning is now off the list for the future b/c it reminds me of the prep taste. Still waiting on a bm. Don't have to drink it again til 7pm but am already dreading. AHHHHHHH.. Def better than the GoLYTELY and the fleets phospho thing OTC i did 10 years ago.

I don't know what everyone is talking about that their SUPREP was flavored...my prep tasted like super saturated salty water. I would NOT recommend this prep. I kept the first dose (6 oz prep diluted with 10 oz cold water) down for 3 hours before throwing it up and had a minimal bowel movement. The next morning I tried to get the second dose (6 oz prep diluted with 10 oz cold water) down and had a violent vomit reaction each time I tried to swallow it. Well needless to say, I woke up from my colonoscopy with the doctor saying I need to repeat the procedure because I was not cleaned out. I am very angry about having to repeat this procedure. This was my second colonoscopy…the first time I prepped with Colyte with Dulcolax tablets and I was cleaned out with this prep, but the prep was too much to have to drink (1 gallon divided into two doses) and too salty and I had the same problem of throwing up the second dose in the morning. I think next time I will try the Osmo-Prep pills. I can no longer tolerate drinking the way too salty prep solutions. Hopefully the pills are more tolerable even if I have to buy a pill cutter at the pharmacy to be able to swallow the 32 horse pills.

They don't do the pills anymore, the FDA took them off the market, I asked for them in the first place. as for the Suprep, I had my colonoscopy and everything went fine.. I found that if you mix it with 1/4 sprite or ginger ale it makes 100% differenence. I did freeze again the second time but I was able to get everything down within 15 minutes.

I followed the directions for the first bottle of Suprep and really wish I hadn't. It was horrible and it took me an hour and a half to make my way through it and even then I left about 1/4 left in the cup. For bottle number 2 I devised a new strategy. After reading several message boards I realized it was ok to mix with something other than water. I used premade lemonade. I used a small glass (much easier than the large plastic cup that comes in the box) and poured about 1/4 the bottle in with an equal part of lemonade. It was still terrible but it was just enough that I could gulp it down and chase it with a large glass of water. While I did have to repeat this process 3 more times, it was much easier than trying to tackle the whole bottle at once. Good luck.

It is fine, just drink it quickly and then get ready to be on the toilet for an hour or so afterwards. Good luck. I didn't eat anything for 25 hours prior to bottle number 1. This helped I think. I drank several bottles of Gatorade, soda, green tea and water to hydrate during the day.

I get scoped every 3 years, and have always used the PEG stuff.. GoLightly/ TriLite etc. I have a very hard time tolerating it, so this year I am going to try the Suprep. I have a very tight twisty colon, which makes it harder to "purge"... it just backs up. So I will use the same program I developed for the TriLite ; no eating for 2 days, then instead of drinking dose 1 at night and dose 2 in the morning, I moved it up to dose 1 of TriLite late morning, and the second dose in the late evening. There was no way I would have been able to drink anything in the morning! It worked well that way, and I was able to actually walk to the car in the morning . So I will try that same routine with Suprep, 11am and then 11pm, because I KNOW that by morning there is NO WAY I can force down more of that "antifreeze" !! I get nauseas just thinking about colon preps, and I will be really glad to get this thing over with again. I hope the Suprep is better than the old antifreeze.... please oh please.

I have just taken my second round of Suprep and hoping the cycle is done sometime soon here so I can get some sleep. This is my first colonoscopy and I am 33 years old. As I have nothing to compare it to, general speaking it has gone pretty well. The taste is definitely the absolute worst part. I had a very difficult time getting the first round down. But I managed within about 20 minutes. I was standing up the entire time while I drank it and would walk around. Drinking all the water afterwards was a welcome relief. Afterwards I did have some pretty intense nausea which lasted about an hour. The Suprep worked very quickly, within about 30 minutes I was starting to go. And it lasted about an hour and a half to two hours. Then I was done. Then a break, followed by the next round in the middle of the night. The first round I used a jolly rancher in my mouth in between drinks of suprep. I was holding my nose, using a straw but it was still pretty bad. Due to the nausea with the first round I decided to phone my doctor and he called in Zofran for me to take 30 minutes before the next round. This made a HUGE difference, I would not do this prep again without it. The second time I also gave myself 30 minutes to get the Suprep down but this time I would take a few chugs, then suck on lemon Italian Ice. This also seemed to really help. All in all, it went well. If they could only do something about the taste; there has to be something they can do. I had no cramping or chills with this but I did get a headache. Many people talked about a chilling sensation but I did not have this. So all in all, I'd probably recommend it. But maybe think about nausea meds to go with it and try the Italian Ice.

I am on my first round and I am trying to finish. I only have about 5 more sips to go. Does anyone know how fast I should be drinking this stuff? I am so nauseated and this is the worst stuff I have ever had to drink. I dont have anything else to compare it to but WOW....this has been a S***TY night. Literally. I have been drinking the first round over about an hour and a half. I am already going to the bathroom. I dont know how I am going to get the second bottle down. I cant wait for this to be over.

Just finished my second dose of the Suprep. Although it was disgusting, It was not as bad as I expected. Is it normal for the 2nd dose BM's to be clear and yellow? And I am freezing, but I don' t run the heat very high. I wish I had read this days ago....I would have started the liquid diet earlier.

I took the first bottle of prep at 7 pm, and had no results until almost 11. The taste made me gag, I got it down by holding my nose. I tried to get the 32 oz. of water down within an hour, but could not do it. A feeling of fullness and nausea started pretty quick. After about 3 hours I starting feeling some cramps, then had 1 1/2 hours of bathroom visits. Not sure I can complete the second portion of this prep in the morning.

Found it very hard to get down without gagging, and then trying to drink two more 16 oz within and hour was almost impossible. i was told to do both bottles in one day, 12pm 6 pm. couldnt hardly consume any other calories because of nausea. first two days after had terrible weakness, could hardly stand.

OK- it's morning now. I put the 2nd bottle in the fridge for about an hour, made sure the water was really cold & it's actually not as bad tasting as the dose last night.
Maybe chilling it is the way to go for those of you who haven't started it yet.

I have a real hard time taking liquid meds but since this is my third time this year I have it done to a science. Get a big straw, you can get them at Panera. Mix the Suprep with water and have a glass of soda ready, I used fresca. Put the straw as far bac as possible and start drinking. You won't taste it as bad and it goes done faster. I have never had a headache or gotten sick with this but it doesn't taste good (that's where the soda comes in). As far as cost, I have never paid for it ask your Dr. If they have a sample, I got all of mine as samples. Good luck!

I used suprep last sunday before my colonoscopy on Monday. No problems. I did first dose at 3:00 and second at 9:00. I was through cleansing at 11:00. Probably would have liked to start a little earlier on second dose. Drank water with concentrated lemon juice after the doseage and it cleared out the aftertaste. No cramping involved and doc liked the cleanout.

Yes, I am taking Osmoprep. It's 32 pills....I take 4 at a time every 15 min. It's sooooooooo much better than Surep. I could not drink Surep if my life depended on it. I absolutely tried drinking this stuff and was only able to get 1/4 of it down before throwing up. After that every sip I took I either gagged or threw up. I have no idea why my doctor didn't give me an option until I called to cancel my appointment because I could not finish the Surep. Ask for the pills.....they taste bad and are about as big as a multi vitamin but they're cake compared to Surep. I think I'd rather drink my urine than ever taste that stuff again.

Thanks to everyone on this site who shared information about the Suprep and their colonoscopy procedure. I finished my exam today and it was fine. Many of the things that I read here were so very helpful. Here are some notes about what I did in case they are of use to others.
I am 5’ 2â€, 135 lbs, female, my procedure was on a Thur. at 10 AM. I changed to a liquid diet Monday afternoon, drinking water, Gatorade-- primo 01 (Mon, Tues, not on Wed because of the dye) and then Gatorade G2 clear, juices, coffee, beef and chicken broth. This was earlier than required but I didn’t want to have a lot of solid food in my system. I focused on being hydrated, keeping my body nourished with the juices, broth, and Gatorade, drinking something all the time, and getting a lot of sleep.
On Wednesday morning I used some preparation H in the morning, just to start medicating the area. I repeated the preparation H just before I started the prep.
At 4 PM—I started, the taste was not good—make sure you mix it with a spoon or else the medicine will sit on the bottom of the cup and be really concentrated when you get to the bottom. I drank 5 -6 sips and then I took a stick of gum and broke off a small piece and chewed it to get the taste out—then got rid of the small piece of gum. I repeated this until the cup with the medicine was finished. It took about 20 minutes. In between I walked around. I started on the 2, 16 oz cups of water-- these were easier to drink but it took me about 30 minutes to finish each cup because I was so full. The process started at about 4:50 and continued until 7, so I had to finish the water as the cleansing started.
Logistics: Before I took the prep, I set up the bathroom with music, my computer, a stack of reading that I wanted to go through, several bottles of water and Gatorade (but honestly, after I drank the suprep, the Gatorade had enough of a similar taste that I mostly drank water). I actually did not do much “wipingâ€. Basically, I would flush every 5 minutes, then drink something, then repeat. I wanted to keep hydrated and this routine helped. After things finished, I showered, used preparation H, and then put on a depends- Just do it, it’s easier than having to worry about things. I made sure that I drank some broth, juice, water and then to bed early.
The second prep was at 4 AM. It was a lot harder to drink, I did the same thing with 10 sips interrupted by gum. This time it took 30 minutes to finish and also somewhat longer to finish the water. I finished the 2, 16 oz of water by 5:30. Again the cleansing started about 50 minutes after I started and stopped about 7 AM (3 hours).
Materials Purchased: Case of Water, Gatorade primo 01, Gatorade G2 clear (ice punch, mixed berry, watermelon/strawberry), white grape juice, white cranberry juice, swanson’s organic chicken broth, swanson’s beef stock, herb-0x chicken bouillon (easy packets to take to work), gum, preparation H, mom to mom unscented wipes, depends

I am now on Day 2 of the prep. It's 7am, and I was instructed to drink the 2nd bottle (w/water) + 32 oz of water over next hour. Today I decided to drink the prep thru a straw and drink more gradually, vs what I did yesterday when I just 'chucked' it. I also continued to walk around the house the entire time. It was a MUCH better experience. I did not have the need to BURP like yesterday, and the bloating high up in the stomach did NOT occur. Mind you, I am convinced that when you are drinking this stuff, you should walk to keep bloating down. I could not sit down as it was too uncomfortable. Yesterday I drank both glasses of water immediately after, as fast as I could (not over the hour). However, today, I am drinking the water gradually too. It took me 20 min to get the prep down, 30 min to sip the 1st glass of water, and I am now sipping the 2nd glass. I have already gone 3X and have to go again so it's working and I fill sooo much better than yesterday, although my symptoms were not as bad as those listed by others, just the need to burp and bloating high up in stomach, but today, NONE of that at all.

I might add that as I was awaiting to go in for the procedure I related my bad experience with suprep to one of the Nurses and he told me that around 50% of the people that take suprep end up vomiting.

Also interesting was the high cost of it, when the Doctor told me to go to the nearest drug store and buy an over the counter medication (magnesium citrate) for 2 dollars to take instead of the second dosage of suprep.
