Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

I read all the comments and made sure I was prepared. I guess I over prepared. I didn't have a real problem chugging the suprep. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't terrible either. Both times it took over an hour to get things moving. I was never confined to the bathroom for long periods of time. I was concerned I wasn't doing it right. Even after the second bottle, it was never clear (dark yellow); but good enough. The colonoscopy was fine and I don't have to do this again for another 10 years.

I just finished taking my first dose of suprep..I thought the taste was just awful. Somewhat cherry flavored with a full shaker of salt. I mixed it and put it on crushed ice..added a splash of tonic water and drank it thru a straw which helped. The only good thing it's only one big glass. Once it starts working I just had to stay in the bathroom. I had no nausea or cramps..I am dreading having to do it all over again since everything is already running clear..what more can I give. Just want all of it to be over

You all scared the living day lights out of me but it was fine....just completed the first bottle; salty was worse than taste; took someone else's advice of a sweet chaser (white cranberry) and it helped as did plain water with it as well. No nausea etc. I have been on clear liquids (as per dr) for 2-3 days prior so not expecting any issues.

Face it - nobody looks forward to bowel prep/bowel blow procedures.... After six colonoscopies - I can assuredly say medicine has FINALLY got one right. While not Happy Hour cocktail, the SUPREP was by far the best of the worst (so it were). The mix is a mere 6 oz - mixed with another 10 or so ounces - followed by 32 oz of water within the hour (must do this regimen TWICE). The taste is not as foul as people below describe - its sort of like drinking watered down cough syrup. Follow the tips of others and make sure the water you mix it with is EXTREMELY cold..... Further, I used TWO straws and placed them as far back in my throat as possible and did the "one two three" - downing it in one constant period. The corresponding 32 oz of water you must drink added to the 16 oz SUPREP concoction will definitely make you full and feel bloated. Others report near immediate impact. The first round took about three hours to work and gave me about three or four trips to the commode. The second round went much quicker - acting within an hour of taking the prep. and sent me to the commode several times. Disposable cottenelle wet wipes are a must! Again, I wouldn't order this at a restaurant - but it was by far the better tasting and more tolerable bowel preps I've ever done. Good luck with your bowel blow experience! STRAWS AND ICE WATER! They are your keys to the kingdom....

I've done this colonoscopy thing with prior flush, two times before. Haven't done this one yet with Suprep. So I'm looking mostly around for what I can expect in terms of time spent on the toilet and when that will begin and end. From what I am reading, however, many of you need to think of the alternative instead of being afraid of the inconvenience. Having part of your colon removed for cancer, chemo, and diarrhea forever, is nothing compared to a couple days of inconvenience. I don't care how it tastes, if you've done Sambucca and Tequila, and siphoned gasoline and swallowed some of that, some salty berry flavored stuff is not going to hurt you. That being said,
Looks like I can expect anything from instant effect to a few hours to begin, ..something like 10 minutes to 4 hours in totality per bottle, with the second bottle being quicker. The vasoline/cortisone cream/Charmine tissue angle is something I hadn't considered but I will follow. My biggest fear is not making it to the toilet in time, as I know from experience it comes flying out with little warning. So I'll too have a couple movies and my portable player with me and not leave the bath till it's over.
My Doc has patients doing the 1st bottle at 5 PM and the 2nd at 10 PM, but that would get me to sleep (maybe) at 2 AM or so. So I'll start the whole mess 2 hours earlier.
Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts, and good luck to all!

Just had colonoscopy two days ago. Given script for Suprep. Came to this site before beginning prep for tips. Was terrified of the taste and possible gag/vomiting reactions based on posters here. Found the taste tolerable. Mixed only with cool water and drank within 5-10 minutes. Took first prep at 4 and had first movement within 20 minutes. No cramping or bloating. Continued to drink water over the next two hours. Absolutely necessary to clean and soothe bottom after each movement because backside will become raw. I used wet wipes and lathered on the Vaseline after each movement. Toilet runs became less frequent as the night wore on; took second dose at 10:30--up until 3:00 am. Procedure was scheduled for 7:00. Very tired, sore bottom, low grade headache probably from lack of food and sleep. Followed food/drink prep suggested by doctor and ate nothing day before the exam. Was definitely clear and clean after second prep. Worst was how bad my bottom hurt, even with all the Vaseline. Told nurses that morning I would never do this again. To which they replied, "Don't ever say never..." I was grateful for this reality check--colonoscopy prep and a sore bottom is nothing compared to the suffering of cancer patients these nurses must see every day. Will not complain again and will have another test in 10 years--no history of colon cancer in my family and my scope was clear.

Had my first colonoscopy today, used suprep for prep. I had read quite a few of the post before hand and this was very helpful. I had no problems at all with the suprep. It tasted very weird, but tolerable. It worked great for me with no side effects. I took first dose yesterday at 5:00 pm and second dose at 11:00 pm. My procedure was at 7:00 am. Everything went well and I received a clean bill of health! I mixed suprep with chilled water and a splash of ginger ale, then poured it into a water bottle and chugged it down. It began to work in thirty minutes. Hope this helps someone else. I prayed and had others praying for me as well. I give God the glory for bringing me through this "adventure".

Hard to believe in this day and age, that a bowel cleansing technique has to be this barbaric. Are pills and large amounts of water too much to ask for? This stuff is nasty, gag-reflex-inducing and hard to tolerate. But it works.

Not so bad. After reading all the posts here, I was really frightened. I've done all the other preps before and knew just how AWFUL they were. This stuff wasn't so bad. Had everything down in under an hour. Now I know the next bottle won't be as easy, but this is still a breeze compared to a gallon of pure SALT water. BTW, I never tasted any saltiness to this as others have reported. So really, folks. If you've ever done the other preps, this one is a breeze. No cramps, no nausea, no explosions, no pain! And I suffer from CFS/Fibromyalgia and am in the middle of a major flair.

Suprep Bowel Prep WITHOUT flavor - I swished with Oragel immediately before drinking the Suprep. People - I could NOT taste the drink AT ALL. As a person with ulcerative colitis, colonoscopies have become a yearly trauma. Not anymore. Try this! So happy this popped in my head!! You'll need about 1/2 teaspoon. Swish and then rinse with water (you will not wash the numbing away) then drink Suprep. Completely killed my taste buds.

Okay, now I just vomited the water and Gatorade I drank a bit earlier. I'm done with this prep. Definitely not taking the second dose.

My daughter just met with her dr. to schedule a colonoscopy. She told him about my bad experience with Suprep. He said it is not feasible to have to drink 48 oz. in one hr. A stomach just cannot handle it. He never prescribes Suprep for anyone.

Apparently you can tolerate drinking just about anything because the taste was so awful i cringe just thinking about it.

Here's a few statistics:
(1) My gastroenterology nurse told me that Suprep was the most tolerable of all the clean-out options which they used. I don't know what the other clean-out options were but I'm assuming they involved drinking some large quantity of something. (2) Out of 147 reviews of Suprep on one of the drugstore websites, it received an overall rating of 8.4 out of a possible 10.0 (3) On another website which claims it looks at reviews from all websites, it received a 7.0 out of a possible 10.0. No doubt there are some real horror stories, but over a large sample of people Suprep comes out pretty good. Nothing is guaranteed, but if you haven't taken it your odds are fairly good of it working for you based on the statistics. I'm a retired defense industry engineer and am wired for the number scene. The rating of 8.4 gave me confidence that it would probably be OK. The only thing I have to compare it to is the Fleet Phospho Soda. Assuming the Fleet Phospho Soda is a 10.0, I give the Suprep a 9.0. Taste between the two was about the same. Maybe the Fleet was slightly better, but not by much. The only reason the Suprep got a 9.0 instead of a 10.0 was that it took about a total time of 6 minutes to down the two doses of Suprep and maybe 10.0 seconds to down the two doses of the Fleet. Also, the Fleet was done the same day and the Suprep required two days. But I'm told the two day split dosage is the wave of the clean-out future because it works better then only a single day dose, regardless of what's used. The first dose of Suprep is the major battle and the second dose is the mopping up operation. Possibly a poor choice of words by using the phrase "mopping up" but there is a bit of truth here. The second dose comes out largely water and it can drip on the floor off of you easier than the day before. Yeah I know. A lousy attempt at some gallows humor, but it doesn't hurt to at least try to have some fun with the colonoscopy adventure.

Did this prep again this year after swearing I never would again, and it was horrid as usual. The first dose was not a big deal but when I woke at 4 am for the second it was horrible, I could barely get it down. If I could swallow pills easily I would do the magnesium citrate prep with dulcolax. This prep is just vile. Do anything but this prep.

This is my first colonoscopy and I'm just shy of 19. I had the first dose yesterday and immediately after finishing the second 16oz I started to violently vomit. Needless to say it still did it's job for 3 hours after. I just tried to hammer my second dose down -procedure is in 5 hours- and again I threw only a little uo this time, I tried my best to keep it down. Both times I've experienced the WORST chills ever. I tried to take a steaming hot bath and it was still freezing. I'm not sure if I'm throwing up because we for the past 6 months there really hasn't been anything for me to digest. So I'm not sure if I threw up due to my stomach not being able to handle it or what. I tired to call my surgeons 24 hr hotline but the dr on call was super rude about my question. I hope it's okay that I threw some up.. I've tried to read and see if it's okay but I can't find that answer anywhere.. needless to say this stuff is NASTY and the chills and vomiting aren't fun at all. This product works but the side effects are pretty hard

This isn't a question its just a tip on how I did with Surprep.
I did very well on it. The taste wasn't all that bad. I chilled it and mixed cold water. I drank it while eating a lime popcicle. That was at 6:00 pm. Was in the bathroom within 20 mins. By 9:00 I was able to lay down and watch TV without getting up every 10 mins.
Went to bed about midnight then up at 4:00am for the second round. Same method but it seemed harder to drink this time and felt a little nauseated with a head ache.
I was able to lay down around 7:30am for an hour and a half and was at the surgery center by 10:00. Its 1:00 pm now and I am already home and eating.
Tips I would suggest would be that after every single bowl movement use diaper rash ointment. You will go through a whole tube but will have zero pain
Also relax and and go for it. Seriously It's not the end of world as I thought it would be. I was very very nervous It's only 2 days of your life and it really isn't that bad, just time consuming. Oh and 2days before the exam go really easy on your diet. Big Breakfeast, med lunch, small dinner the next day you would start your liquid diet.
I ended up having one small poloyp removed.

I just had a colonoscopy today. I took the Suprep split dose. The flavor was acceptable, though not particularly pleasant. It gave me notable cold shivers and mild nausea both times. But that did go away after about an hour. It took an hour from beginning of the dose to the first high-volume movement and about another hour until it was basically done. No major discomfort from the diarrhea.
The second dose took effect a little quicker for me, but I also took less time to drink all the water.

This stuff was so hard to get down. I read reviews and worked myself up to a frenzy. My colonoscopy was slated for noon and my instructions were to take the first dose at 4 AM and then the second at 7 AM. In a few reviews, it said to store the containers in the fridge because it would make it less salty and then others said not to because the box told you to store it at room temp. I chose storing in the fridge. I woke up and mixed it with cold water and crystal light. This was another suggestion. I started drinking it and it was awful; incredibly salty and sour. I mean a huge ugh!! Then I got a straw out to use and it did make a difference and I can't figure out why! I managed to get it down by only holding my nose. It did not kick in for an hour and a half! I was worried that putting it in the fridge made it not effective. But when it finally kicked in, it was like a tornado! I had no pain but lots of going to the toilet! When I started to take the 7 AM dose, I didn't now how I could do it because it was so vile. I figured out how to do it. I held my nose and sucked through a straw 3 times and took 3 breaths between each sip. As long as I did this, the after taste was not so terrible. I managed to get it down in a relatively short amount of time. I drank only 8 oz. of water the 2nd time because I was so full and was running to the bathroom too damned much! I drank about 4 oz. on my way down to the place for the procedure and the nurse told me that was a no no, that it could cause water to go into my lungs or some nonsense! I could not imagine being sent home at that point after all that work. Just know that you are not supposed to drink anything at least 2 hours before the procedure. I went in anyway and the doctor said it went very well and I had prepped perfectly. By the time I went to the bathroom the last time before I left home, it was nothing but liquid coming out of my tushie. All was well and I am praying I don't have to return for 5 years. 3 polyps were removed and this was my 4th one. I honestly don't think I can go back in 3 years. I hated this prep! Why does it have to be so difficult? Why in the world can they not make a prep that doesn't want to make you vomit up your guts! There is money to made here guys!!

Suprep is way better than any other colonoscopy prep I have used before. Your intestines and colon are cleaned thoroughly. Not so much risk of accidents. Highly recommend it over anything else. You may have to pay $45 for it. Well worth it.
