Suprep Reviews (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHas anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?
Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.
Thanks!
Tried it for the first time. Took my first dosage at 6:00 PM as instructed. It's now 3:00 AM and it's finally working. Taking 2nd dosage now instead of at 4:00 AM.
Needless to say - I'm thinking not everybody's reaction time is the same.
Just did my first dose. This is not bad at all period. The way to drink it is to take plenty of gulps. Listen to what people here have done for prep. Start eating a liquid or semi liquid diet a day early (chicken noodle soup) drink lots of water or Gatoraid the day before and day of...you get light headed from the lack of vitimins.Use preperation H just before and get Aloe TP paper.
Stand up during your dose's, this will eliminate the vomit from the gas build up. Mine first movement took effect 34 mins after first dose. Its just dark brown water.
Its not keeping me on the toilet, just every now and then .
Just had a colonoscopy on Monday with Suprep. I was scared to drink the first dose for fear of it tasting bad, however, once I finally started drinking it, I had the whole 16 ounces down in 60 seconds. I did it in 3 gulps with ginger ale in between. I was gross tasting, but I held my nose and drank with a straw. I was surprised that I had absolutely no nausea, no cramping, nothing. Just the urge to go about 40 minutes later. However, I took about 3 1/2 hours to totally clean out. This may be due to chronic constipation. I drank a bottle of gatorade prior to drinking the suprep and had another one after the suprep. I drank this instead of the 32 ounces of water. In the morning when I had to drink the second dose, I could not get it down. I only drank 1/3 of it, but it still worked just fine and I cleaned out the same. I do recommend taking the second dose a little earlier than the doctor says to. I was supposed to take mine at 5am, and my procedure was at 9am. I was still going right up until we left at 7:45am and I went once at the surgicenter. All in all I think it could have been a lot worse.
I've been a bit concerned about preparing for my first colonoscopy and am in the midst of the night-before prep -- it's not all that bad. I think Suprep must be an improvement over other prep kits. It's odd tasting (sweet, salty, cough-medicine-y), but you only have to down 16 oz. then clear water. For me, it began working in about an hour.
This is my third colonoscopy. For the first two I had to take GoLytely, which tastes like a cross between salt water and whatever fruit flavored packet you choose. You also have to drink 2 gallons of it - regardless of your size. I started vomiting after a few glasses (each time). This time - Suprep. I drank it down in a few minutes (with a straw - and hold your nose - even when you are taking a breath in between sips or gulps). As soon as I finished (which took about 3 minutes) I licked a lemon and the taste was gone. I have already chased it with 24 oz of water (in under 25 minutes) so I have only one more 8 oz bottle to drink in the next 35 minutes. The Suprep tastes like funky cough syrup, as someone said, but it is MUCH less awful than GoLytely.
I am taking Suprep now. Took it at 7pm. Yes, the taste is not the best, but no where near as bad as people say. It's sweet, and tart and a clear liquid. I 'chukked it'. I then drank the first 16 oz water, and felt like I really needed to burp but couldn't. I think I drank it all too fast. I took my time on the 2nd cup and took @ 15 min to finish. I felt REALLY bloated high up in my stomach, like others have said. This was relieved by WALKING. I walked and walked around the house for @ 15 min and the more I walked the better I felt. Helped the liquid to go down and get into my bowels faster so that I could go. Took about 30 min but worked and went. Have gone @ 6 times and it's almost 11:30pm. I feel fine. I take the 2nd dose at 6am and my procedure is 10:30am. I have had NO nausea or vomiting. Had water, gatorade, lemon jello, and diluted white grape juice since taking the first dosage. I'm really fine. Just keep hydrating because you lose alot of liquids when you go. I would definitely do this again for my next colonoscopy.
This was my 3rd colonoscopy but my 1st time using suprep. At first I didn't think it was too bad. I used a straw and had a lemon slice to suck on after each slurp. But by the end of the container my stomach was starting to feel pretty bad. It didn't take long before I felt horrible. I felt like I could throw up at any time. I started taking it at 6PM and at 9Pm I couldn't take it any long and I vomited. I thought to myself that no way I was going to do the second prep in the morning. I called the Doc and told them the second prep was out so they either had to take me as I was or cancel. The Doc told me to go to a drug store and get a 10 oz. bottom of magnesium citrate and take it with a couple glasses of water and that should be good enough. This I did, it was like a mildly salty lemon drink, no where near as bad as suprep but it still wasn't great, but it only cost 2 dollars and I could keep it down. The colonoscopy went fine and no problems, but never again with suprep.
I was dizzy, had a headache, and my rectum is on fire. Any ideas on how to relieve that?
Why the hell are they putting SUCRALOSE into this thing? Why is there no option for getting this prep without it? I could do the same thing by just drinking unflavored powdered magnesium sulfate in water.
I eat a natural foods vegetarian diet, and cannot begin to tolerate an artificial sweetener. I would rather have this prep without the totally sickening artificially taste. I have had my first dose and keep burping up this taste. My body doesn't want to tolerate it. I am trying not to throw it up. I am sipping some vegetable broth in hot water now.
OK, I'll make it easy for you. I've had at least 5 colonoscopies and have had ALL the preps. Suprep is really easy. Start by drinking about an ounce of water to moisten your mouth. Next, get a bottle of Gatorade or whatever clear liquid you like. Open it up and put it on your countertop. Next, mix the Suprep with cool tap water. Take a deep breath and chug as much of the Suprep mix as you can. Take a swig of the Gatorade (it kills the taste -if you think there is a bad taste). Now go and repeat the first step (chugging) followed by a sip of Gatorade until you've gotten it all down. I did it in 2 continuous gulps. Now, while you're still standing at the sink, chug that first glass of water. It'll be a non-event. If you're really good, you can probably get down the second glass, too. Voila - you've just completed the easiest part of the prep. Now go take a shower (you'll feel better), put the phone next to the toilet (because I guarantee all your friends will call you at that inopportune time) and maybe the Sunday crossword puzzle (you;'ll have lots of chances to finish it). Should be no nausea, no major side effects - but you will clean out! Should be clear and odorless (if you can believe that) by the time your prep is finished. Good luck. Hope this helped. I just finished the first 1/2 of this prep and I'm waiting :-)
Be careful using this product. I ended up in the local ER passing out with heartbeat down to 38bpm. ER doc started iv fluids with potassium to raise heart rythym to normal. I followed the instructions to the letter. The second time I prepped I split the dose in only one bottle, drank plenty of water as instucted like the first time. Guess what, Gastr Doc said everything went well and the colon was completly clean. I do agree with the other writers, this product should be based on body weight.
I had my procedure today and will FOR SURE USE SUPREP next time too. I am a 30yr old single mom of two kids under 5 and this is the only way to prep. This is not my first time. I still have nightmares about that gallon of soap water normally used. Test this prep was difficult to get down but it was only a total of 12oz! Works quickly and well. Beware of the chills. Had bad chills with both preps but compared to the "regular" prep this one was a easy. Some of the scary posts on this prep are from people that have never taken the other methods of preps. From someone who has this is more preferred. Nice pleasant but preferred.
second dose was not too terrible. Colonoscopy was a breeze.
Was heavily sedated but although awake felt nothing whatsoever,
and even watched some of it on the monitor. Entire procedure took
15 minutes and doctor said come back in 10 years. Don't be frightened
of this procedure, it honestly is no big deal.
YES! I remember when they told me I'd be doing a split prep (having done 4 colonoscopies before with only the day before prep), I looked up info on the internet and saw photos of the difference the second dose makes taken on the day of he colonoscopy. Overnight a brown coating forms on the inside of the colon with just one prep. The second prep shows even flat, just forming polyps. Amazing difference.
I have ulcerative colitis and had my 3rd colonoscopy yesterday. As far as preps this one was the best one. Previously did the pills and the gallon jug prep. Would go for a colonoscopy every other month if it weren't for the prep. After a long over due amount of time I bit the bullet and did the suprep. Some helpful hints..... Refrigerate the bottles 24 hours prior to use and use cold water to mix. Have chicken broth on hand, ice tea, lemon ice, and mint ( I used peppermint) gum. Use a straw to drink. Take a few big sips and broth right after then some lemon ice. After doing this I decided to chew some mint gum to tame the nausea. By chewing the gum ( keep refreshing the pieces so it's minty, and drinking the suprep then eating some lemon ice it was almost like numbing your taste buds mixing mint and lemon ice. I found it very helpful in getting it down although still unpleasant. Halfway through the mixture I did vomit but was able to continue once I decided to use the gum. Was dreading the next morning but it was better and I drank it faster maybe because my head knew what to expect and I realized the gum and ice helped. Hope this was helpful!
IF U READ THIS TONIGHT- try to make some warm broth-----> IT HELPED!!! Drink the Subprep room temp, and the broth luke warm!! Also- my broth was a mix of tomato & beef boullion. Don't quit! You'll be surprised at the results!!!
I am laughing because as I read your comment and at this very minute, I am all set up in the bathroom with my laptop lololol.
Just took first bottle about hour and a half ago....you must only use water to mix the prep. I made sure water was very cold. I used a long straw and pinched my nose. I drank it all down in just over a minute. Don't take sips - you will give up. Within a half hour I was on the "throne"....no cramping or stomach pain but no warning either...it came fast!. I did ask Dr. if I could suck on hard candy and answer was yes....so I had a Root Beer barrel hard candy ready to mask what little taste I had. The salty taste does come through. It was the easiest prep I have ever used.
This is my 3rd colonoscopy.
If you do not have insurance get the magnesium citrate from your local store. It is very inexpensive. Ask your doc but two bottles should be similar to this stuff. I have no problem with the suprep but not sure why I need to tke two bottles. My outgo is completely clear after taking one bottle.
I start my "cocktail" in 45 minutes. I feel I have done appropriate research and although I am not looking forward to it - I am looking forward to getting it over with! This is my 1st time, turned 50 last December and want to get his checked off my to-do list. My bathrooms are ready with candles, a note book, a book that I have not taken the time to finish, a heater, a little throw jacket, my cell charger and positive thoughts!! I have my music to the soul set up, laundry and dishes done! I want to thank everyone for their words of wisdom - I am scheduled for tomorrow in the am but will not know until the Dr calls me between 12 and 3 - I hope I can take the call... The bar opens at 12pm and then again at 5pm - I made peach jello and lemon/lime jello and btw, I can't stand jello... My best wishes to all going through this ~
