Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

The first thing I would tell you is try not to go crazy reading all the horrific comments. It was hard enough getting over the fear of the side effects. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy this afternoon and finished taking the second prep of Suprep early this mornng. Yes, it does taste like salty cough syrup but it is much easier to get down than the prep I had to take 17 years ago. I did not experience nausea or cramping. Of course everyone is different so that is why we should never fully assume what our symptoms will be. I would recommend staying quite close to a bathroom though. I would also recommend that you begin to hydrate yourself properly 1 - 2 days before. I chose to drink water and Lemon Powerade to avoid dehydration, especially after my first prep last night. I foolishly got so worried about the side effects that I was contemplating not taking it. I decided to "man up" and put my trust in God. Making sure that everything is OK is far greater than our fears. Not knowing if everything is OK can have far greater consequences. All the best to everyone having this procedure.

I just finished taking my first dose of suprep..I thought the taste was just awful. Somewhat cherry flavored with a full shaker of salt. I mixed it and put it on crushed ice..added a splash of tonic water and drank it thru a straw which helped. The only good thing it's only one big glass. Once it starts working I just had to stay in the bathroom. I had no nausea or cramps..I am dreading having to do it all over again since everything is already running clear..what more can I give. Just want all of it to be over

Just finished drinking the first dose. I put the first 6 oz prep bottle in the refrigerator for a bit to get cold. It is very important to drink it cold then it doesn't taste as bad. In between gulps, I drank some diet sprite to cut the saltiness which was my biggest complaint. The sweetness of the sweetener in the sprite really helped with this. I also had some orange Gatorade standing by which helped as well. I am already in the bathroom only 15 minutes after taking. Will keep you I formed as the night progresses. My first dose is at 4pm followed. Y a second dose at 8pm. My colonoscopy is for 7am tomorrow morning. They said I should be able to go by 8:45am.

By the way using Vaseline and baby wipes is the way too go. I remember from the last colonoscopy 6 years ago that my butt was raw from going to the bathroom so much!

I'm going to go against the grain and make a recommendation from my prior experiences using Suprep. Do NOT chill the mixture. Use cool tap water. Everybody on this thread complains about chills, stomach cramps, etc. I am convinced that this is a result of refrigerating the mixture. I have to have colonoscopies every 3 years and use Suprep as my preferred method of clean-out. Just have a positive mindset before you drink it. Drink it as fast as you can, washing down each sip/dose with a sip of Gatorade (or whatever) to cleanse your palette. Then hope for a clean report from your doctor. Good luck.

Procedure at 10:00 a.m. First bottle of Suprep at 5:00 p.m. and second at 10:00 p.m. Chilled bottles in the refrigerator and mixed with chilled water. Tried the straw method for the first bottle and barely got it down. Nausea, headaches, and chills. The stuff is bitter and salty; about the nastiest thing I have ever had in my mouth. It took about two hours to begin working. With the second bottle. I tried to hold my breath and take a chug of 4 ounces every 10 minutes followed by a quick brushing of my teeth and tongue. This was working alright until the last chug. I threw it up. I am now struggling to finish the last quart of water. It has been over an hour, but I cannot get the last 14 ounces down because of the nausea. The staying in the bathroom is not what is so bad. It is the nausea, the chills, the headache. There has to be an easier way. If I am not "running clear" by 7:00 a.m., I am to take one to two Fleet enema treatments in the morning. Sounds like even more fun.

Why are you not supposed to drink alcohol prior to using SUPREP? A little Vodka might get me through this easier.

This is the 3rd time in 15 months that I have had to have a colonoscopy because I had a large polyp initially, something residual for event 2 and hopefully there is nothing this time.

First time using Suprep and although I gagged a bit getting it down and didn't look for online help until I downed that and all the water, I am preferring this over the Miralax where you have tablets and a gallon of prep solution.

Of course tomorrow morning at 4:45 am when I have to do this a 2nd time, I might not be in this good a mood.

I think it is important to:
#1 use a straw
#2 take smal sips followed by a couple of swallows of water
#3 listen to music or some kind of talk on a subject you are passionate about to distract yourself.

I had been doing a steady stream today of water, herbal mint tea with sweetner, jello, low sodium chicken broth. i think that helped.

I also used two sports bottles clearly marked with amounts which I brought to the table as I downed the Suprep. That way I knew I was getting the right amount of water.

I am also glad to know from a comment here why it is important to down the 2nd bottle of Suprep -- has to do with enzymes you need to clear and that has to be done just before the procedure. Anyway thanks for all this support.

Tamara, I know it was a while ago, but how did you do? Did you get all of it down? I have to do it in 2 weeks.

What did you mix it with?

My kit cost $75! Insurance paid $53! $128 for 2 small bottles(6 oz each) & 1 plastic cup! Outrageous! And horrible taste!

I am using the prep right now. Has a grape flavor, which I don't care for. So I tried to drink it as fast as I could. Starting working after 20 minutes.

You all scared the living day lights out of me but it was fine....just completed the first bottle; salty was worse than taste; took someone else's advice of a sweet chaser (white cranberry) and it helped as did plain water with it as well. No nausea etc. I have been on clear liquids (as per dr) for 2-3 days prior so not expecting any issues.

Sounds like you had an allergic reaction. The only discomfort I've found was the taste.

I am not sure I understand the mixing... Is it correct that you have to mix the 6 oz. dose of Suprep with 10 oz. of water, drink that, and then drink two more 16 oz. glasses of water? Or instead of those two glasses, is it okay to drink something else like Sprite or lemon Gatorade?

Or, can you use those as the 10 oz. to mix with the 6 oz. Suprep?

I am determined to get it all down, no matter what. I need this to work.

Face it - nobody looks forward to bowel prep/bowel blow procedures.... After six colonoscopies - I can assuredly say medicine has FINALLY got one right. While not Happy Hour cocktail, the SUPREP was by far the best of the worst (so it were). The mix is a mere 6 oz - mixed with another 10 or so ounces - followed by 32 oz of water within the hour (must do this regimen TWICE). The taste is not as foul as people below describe - its sort of like drinking watered down cough syrup. Follow the tips of others and make sure the water you mix it with is EXTREMELY cold..... Further, I used TWO straws and placed them as far back in my throat as possible and did the "one two three" - downing it in one constant period. The corresponding 32 oz of water you must drink added to the 16 oz SUPREP concoction will definitely make you full and feel bloated. Others report near immediate impact. The first round took about three hours to work and gave me about three or four trips to the commode. The second round went much quicker - acting within an hour of taking the prep. and sent me to the commode several times. Disposable cottenelle wet wipes are a must! Again, I wouldn't order this at a restaurant - but it was by far the better tasting and more tolerable bowel preps I've ever done. Good luck with your bowel blow experience! STRAWS AND ICE WATER! They are your keys to the kingdom....
